Now that the "Death Valley Daze" ride is complete I can post this one.

For a couple of years, Rogdebs and I have been talking of riding down to see the wildflowers. With the moisture from these storms the blossoms should be out in the middle of March.

Regardless...we're going! :yahoo:

The Dates:

Leaving Sacramento on March 11th, riding to Death Valley.

Staying in Death Valley on Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night;

March 11th, 12th and 13th.

Riding home on Sunday, March 14th

We are going to stay IN the park at Stovepipe Wells.

In the past we've stayed in Lone Pine but we don't want to ride the 80 miles into the park every morning.

Open 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time, Daily. We are closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

There is no "group rate" as they said it's the beginning of the season, etc., etc., etc.

There are no King Size beds left, they were already taken when we called. Some are reserving a queen/double. I have a double/double and plan to share a room.

There is a campground nearby for those who'd prefer to bring a tent.

When this place is full, others will have to use motels in Lone Pine or at Furnace Creek (or the Casino where the SoCal guys will be).

Either way we can plan a morning rendezvous spot and meet with the group. Or simply see one another at the various sites.

Fairlaner graciously sent me the Mapsource route he built for Death Valley Daze. We'll be using that and modifying to suit our time.

Damn. Would love to join you all. Especially since GSJane missed this past weekend and was looking forward to another trip in the near future when it was a bit warmer.

But alas, that is the weekend we are riding down to Rocky Point Mexico.

:(

Guess who just got tagged for jury duty starting March 1st :angry2: -- just mailed off a postponement request.
Guess who got tagged for jury duty in December and just got tagged again for the month of Feburary?

I wish they would lose my name.

I'm thinking of staying Lone Pine first night 11th.

Beatty Friday night 12th and back to Lone Pine on Saturday night 13th

Returning home on Sunday the 14th

This sounds fun, especially for a kitten like me who didn't want to ride over the grapevine in a rainstorm or blizzard in January. And it would make a good stopover on my way to Okla. to visit my bro's family there. Paging Flying Junior. . . doesn't your brother in Kansas need a visit?

Fairlaner has started a thread linked here for the SoCal owners who might want to also enjoy Death Valley.

He's trying to arrange the discount with At the Longstreet casino.

If you're interested, you might want to check that thread.

madmike2, sure wish I could join You, Roger and Deb for this Event!!! At Thanksgiving, Seth and I booked ourselves for Walt Disney World, Florida from 3/13-3/20.

You're so right, wildflowers are going to be absolutely and outrageously beautiful over your dates this year due to the heavy rains! Have fun, everybody! Don & Seth

How close is the Longstreet casino to the places that others have booked into?

La Pinguina Plata, per MapQuest it is 55 miles from Death Valley Junction to Stovepipe Wells; and per BMW Ingrid's speedometer it is 8 miles to Death Valley Junction, so it is 63 miles and takes an hour to ride.

And from Beatty to Stovepipe Wells is 34 miles and it takes 45 minutes; going over 4,316' Daylight Pass, Route 374.

I seem to recall this taking much less time... ;)

I don't remember any leg of that trip taking more than 10 to 15 minutes except the road to Scotty's castle which took forever in the choking clouds of dust Fairlaner made for us.

We might have been going a few miles an hour over the speed limit. I can't remember I had a lot to drink.

You rode fast enough to be in Fairlaner's dust? I've never gotten that close to him before.

But I WAS limited to the Audi limit for their US cars which is 130(for now anyway)......

John it was only a little dust.

Jill the reason I picked Longstreet again is because every thing is right there (food booze gambling and 15 miles up the road is entertainment of the adult variety)
