I have been prepping the bike for the spring/summer excursions (including NAFO) and am trying to pack as much crap as possible onboard. Opinions on deer whistles? Or am I just going off the deep end?

For god's sake man! how the hell you going to get a

yeah...and if you used Google you'd see that people have USED and NOT USED them on their bikes and talked about it many times on this forum before.

Interesting concept. Was wondering that myself but since there are no deer here on the desert floor its not a big issue.

Confession time: I have two of these whistles on the FJR.

And two on the Blackbird.

Before I roll down to Nevada next weekend on the Busa, it too, will be sporting two deer whistles.

In all likelihood from all accounts I've seen over the years, most deer whistles do next to nothing. However, there has been a small body of anecdotal evidence by some very seasoned LD Riders that the Deer Whistles that State Farm gives out to their customers actually do have some amount of effect on White Tail and Mule deers.

When I learned about this Back In The Day, I thought, what the hell, for their tiny minuscule amount of wind drag, I can afford to affix them to the bike. So I have been running them for about 7 years. Do they work? Hell, I have no idea... maybe some, maybe not at all.

But just on the outside chance that they might have some positive effect on some deer, I think I can afford they tiny amount of wind drag they induce.

Thanks for your reply to my question WC. You ride a lot more than I do and it is ASSumed that you have not hit any deer with them on. I will not feel stupid sticking a couple on my ride.

Added bonus.....deer whistles prevent kangaroo strikes. I never, ever have had one since running a pair of them myself.

Come to think of it...I've never hit a street ho either. These things are amazing! :yahoo:

First I've heard of that -- that sheds a whole new light on the issue....State Farm approved/recommended.

Here's some more help...maybe?:

Of course, another insurance company -- Progressive -- has a contract with the 'gremlin' business.

btw: i had an LDR friend send me a set of kangaroo whistles while he was living in australia. i put the unopened package in my tank bag and have never had a problem with kangaroos since.
