I believe that the Canadian Dealer can do the work, but has to phone a have pre approval.

This would considered a special case.

I don't know if I am in left field on this topic but here goes.

I also have an '06 AE. I went out to my garage took the left side panel off and manually shifted into 3rd gear no problem.

With the bike on the center stand it started right up. At idle the clutch is not engaged. It seems to me that you could

operate, start and stop, with the tranny only in say 3rd gear.

However, once running I was unable to manually move the shift actuating rod manually. It would not move. I was

wondering, if the shift rod is not connected to the electric actuating solenoid (bracket broken) you would be able

to manually move the shift rod through all the gears? With the left panel off you can easily reach the shift rod

while sitting on the bike.

I don't have a truck to lend hauling assistance but I drive by Brothers everyday.

If you need a part picked up/shipped/delivered I can offer assistance.

Could someone fax or e mail the service bullentin?

Fax

The part is available in Canada (will order it) , but I work for a Yamaha Outboard "only" dealership.

I don't have access to the bullentin.

I hoping that the service bullentin, shows a easy fix.

Thanks,

Mark

The shift actuator on my AE broke last fall. Mine required the replacement of the entire subframe assembly. The mounting brackets on the early models were attached to the subframe by a couple of whimpy spot welds. The "bracket" being mentioned here was ment to reinforce the weak mounting welds. It's not a replacement part. The original bracket could be rewelded to the subframe if need be, but, in my case, Yamaha insisted on replacing the subframe assembly if I wanted a warrenty repair.

Good luck!

I spoke with Phil last night. He's in Renton until the shops open on Tuesday. They're all closed here Sunday & Monday.

Hey, Phil! At least the weather here is beautiful. Ya might not want to leave!

I've talked with Phil several times this morning.

I've ordered the update kit, but his FJR is outside the serial number range of the affected units, so???

I'll go take a look at the bike tonight.

Thanks a million, Guys and Gals. Here is the latest: I have spoken with a gentleman at Customer Relations in Toronto. He said he would contact the service manager for Western B.C., and then call me back. But that was nearly 3 hours ago. I just received an offer locally in Seattle for a pickup to borrow. So I can rent a local trailer, return to Vancouver, and bring the bike to Renton, WA, where the dealer said they would repair asap, to get me back on the road. Several of you members in the area have offered to find me a truck or trailer, but having one available here seems to be the best overall solution. Mark, in Vancouver, even offered to do the work free, if I can get the parts.

We don't appreciate our friends enough, until something like this happens 2000 miles from home! You are the best friends a guy could have. I will post tonight when we get back from Vancouver. Phil

Hi Phil,

I also just saw your post; sorry I coud not have leant a hand sooner. I am in the Snohomish area of Washington, let me know if you still require any form of assistance. A little disconcerting with regards to the AE transmission.
