The general mgr emailed me back with an acknowledgment:

..Brian,

Thanks for the feedback and more importantly thanks for your business.Terry Stallcop

Talked to Phil this AM.

He is in OR and plans to be in CA today or tomorrow.

Said Renton Motorsports got him in at 9:00 AM and out by 3:00 PM.

Looks like there is an adjuster on the linkage that is very sensitive.

He also said it still just doesn't feel the same as it used to but is glad to be back on the road.

Fantastic news, Phil.
Any of you reading this who are still feeling good may be wondering if you'll go to hell if you send Renton Motorsports a little note acknowledging how much you appreciate what they did for your riding buddy. I've got your answer...er, answers:

1) There's no such place as hell, except the one you create.
There might be :)

b ) Do it anyway.
Done. I had a reply from the GM within 5 minutes "Thanks for the feedback Paul.I will pass in on to all parties involved.Terry Stallcop"

It was easy, quick and painless. We should all have such a positive experience umpteen hundred miles from home :)

Do you think we could get some more feedback on this coupling problem as in things we can watch out for so we don't get stranded?

I just sent the GM an e-mail saying how much we appreciate their support for a stranded rider. Support that dealer when in the area!

Renton MC is where I take my FJR for service. I emailed Terry with kudos as well. I also asked whether he could provide any info on whether this issue could be avoided.

Here is the response that I received from the service department at RMC.

Eric,
First let me say thank you for the compliment, we really appreciate it.

I did some research on the servo actuator bulletin, and I spoke to one of the technical advisors at Yamaha Motor Corp. He said that the servo Bulletin could be a factor if it fell into the vin range. Unfortunately, I can not remember the gentleman’s name to look up the vin number.

What we did while it was here was adjust the shift linkage between the servo and the shift shaft so it would get a more positive turn on the shaft. We checked the self diagnostic on the unit and it had not stored any past codes. We checked pin fit at the servo for any loose wires (did not find any), and after test riding for quite some time, deemed that it was just an adjustment.

We have not seen this problem before and the guys at Yamaha say they have not had a problem with the units that are outside the designated vin range for the service bulletin. So, I would have to say it’s a fluke at this point.

I’m glad to see he made it back home. I am sorry to hear how much of a hassle it was to get out of Canada and down to us though.

Again, thank you for the compliment.
