Did you have the guts to change the spring tension on your throttle?

Had my dealer do the spring thing this am while doing the 600 mile. What a huge difference! I thought the big thing would be on long rides, but right away, the bike feels like a different bike, feels like it has 2x the HP. I imagine all the time on the ducati with a light throttle has trained me to have a lighter touch. Maybe if I was coming over from a harley I would not even have noticed. In any case, I will now have a lot more confidince applying gas after I start into a hard turn, as I can apply trottle smoothly.

my dealer said the couldn't do it that it would screw with the warranty

I did it after 8000 miles. I kinda didn't care one way or the other since the pull of the throttle didn't bother me, but I sorta decided to do it on a whim since I already had the tank up for a TBS. MAN am I glad I did! The progression off of idle is SO much smoother now, and that's even though I'd had the G2 throttle cam on it for a few thousand miles already when I loosened the tension. If I could only do one or the other I'd do the spring tension change over the G2 cam, but the combination of the two is amazing. The last 2000 miles have been very enjoyable indeed.

Mine just had me sign the work order where is stated "customer requested modification".

I'd suggest you just do it yourself. I would have, but I knew they were going to be right there doing the throttle body sync at the 600 miles, and in this case, it was free.

Where did you get your work done? I've already done my spring mod (did it as soon as I got home from the dealer on a brand new bike), but I'm curious which dealer seems like a reasonable person to deal with. I bought my 07 from RMC in Renton, but my bike will never see the service department there unless it's warranty work because I do all my own maintenance.

6800 miles on my '07A and I have not done the spring release yet. I _AM_ bothered by the idle to off-idle (and off-idle to idle) lurch when working at small throttle openings in tight quarters.

I'll probably get the G2 first and see if that does enough before releasing the spring tension.

EMS in Bellevue.

They were funny, both the normal guy and his boss acted nervous, and like "are you sure you want to do this?" and, we are not liable if this screws up, but then after it was done, the normal guy is like "yes, the throttle on the FJ is way too stiff". And they didn't charge me to do it. This is the 3rd bike I bought from them in 4 years, so they know me.

My throttle does not "snap back" to zero any more, if you release it, it takes a lazy second or two to return to idle. But I don't normally drive by taking my hand off when I want to cut throttle, I always roll the wrist back to zero. I think it is a huge improvement.

Wanted to do my 07 since I got it new. Finally got to it at 1100 miles, last week. I was attempting to take the air box out to get better access to the springs. This looked like a lot of work. I saw the 4 springs, one for each throttle body. It was hard to get to and I was worried I would fully unwind one or more of the springs and then need to remove airbox to get them back on. I unwound the springs on the 2 outer throttle bodies about 45 degrees, (moved them from one metal arm to the next). Viola! It worked. It's just right and I'm lovin it.

My '07 is only two weeks old, but after a few miles I knew this mod was gonna have to be done. Took the bike to my buddy's (Townsendsfjr) garage and performed the "surgery". Took more time to prep the patient than to perform the actual procedure. Thanks to the instructions and photos on this forum, it was a piece of cake. Rode the motorcycle home (about 5 miles) and noticed a remarkable difference right away.

Did my 06, and have not regretted it one bit. I recently did a comparo with a fellow that has an untouched 07 and what a difference. He begged me for the how too link.

I have also installed grip puppies on mine, which is like throwing a new throttle tube on the bike but only costs 10 bucks.

I only had my 07 for a week and a half and 200 miles when I did the "spring thing". Made a world of difference. I have also done the Barbarian jumper mod, the CO settings change, taken the slack out of the throttle cable and installed Grip Puppies and I now have the bike that I thought I was getting from Yamaha in the first place. Very smooth and responsive to small throttle changes. I liked my FJR before, but now I love it!

In my opinion, no bike, especially one with sport bike performance, should have the on-off, lurch effect that this bike had. This is my forth Yamaha and I really did not expect this from them.
