Huh? :unknw:txtn is hawtI blame it all on cell phones, and those cryptic text messages.
sending text messages on one's cell phone can be fun and enjoyable
...and with a bit of planning, downright evil :evilsmiley:

I was waiting to see the contributions to this thread from Bustanut and Odot. What do you bet that each will include (or be limited to) a choice, four letter word? Of course one must recognize that such a post may be brief, clear and to the point, not wasting the reader's time in trying to find the point.Oops, I've said too much already. I'll probably be swamped with PM's from Bustanut and Odot.
It does to me. When I take the time to read something, I appreciate that the author took the time to spell and punctuate correctly. I spend a lot of time and effort composing, given that I don't know how to type and never went past public school.Does punctuation matter?
Contributions? Don't hold your breath....I was waiting to see the contributions to this thread from Bustanut and Odot.
"I gots to be carefull Heres ya kno". The last time I said something about the public school system the Admin's pounced on me.I followed a link from this forum over to a speed-traps site and came across this post:
"I was caught in this speed trap I was going 68 miles per hour and was pulled over by a motorcycle unit he said do you know how fast your going I said ye 68 mph, he said no you were doing 83mph what a bunch of crooks"
The above comment gets an F- in punctuation. It's missing about 32 periods, including the last one. A semi-colon would have been an astonishing display of punctuation dexterity rarely seen on the Internet. And how did the poster determine that a comma was necessary? Better make that a solid F instead of F-.
The above post and others on the Internet make me wonder: Is punctuation completely optional on the Internet? Or maybe this person is just uneducated (stupid?). If it's the latter, then 90% of all respondents on, say, YouTube, are uneducated (in the case of YouTube, add angry and vindictive; but that'll have to be another post).

Nowe thats phunnie!Jill, are you saying that there is an inverse relationship between ***** length and punctuation? If so, you may be on to something, because I minored in English in collage, and I don't like to brag, but ........ Oops, I've said too much already. I'll probably be swamped with PM's from Bustanut and Odot. From one member of the grammar police to another, I think that it does matter. The message quoted says a lot about the writer yet he probably has little concept of the negative impression he gives. On the strength of his one sentence statement (if you can call it a sentence), I would suggest that he probably was doing the speed quoted and is an ***** too (and probably doesn't admit to have a very small *****).
Sorry Joe: I had to do it, my mother allways corrected me for this. Whoops found another one :glare:I gotta tell you JB, I try reel hard to write wellgood, but you smart guys intimidatedintimateme.
+1....don't know how many "professionals" I have done transcription for that this is the case. Hell, most of them have difficulty even speaking properly....and some of the smartest folks I've met can barely spell let alone write whilst uzing punctatctions.
+1zilla I think most folks just getinto big of a hurry and dont bother reading before they hit the button or don't proof read stuff they wright and its really kinda silly when you have to read what the wrote without being able to take a breath at the end of a sentance causing you to get real dizzy and making you fall off your chair hitting you head and ending up like me witch is actually rather amuzing for you guys and my wifeI don't think people use bad punctuation because they are "stupid". Many people just don't understand how it all works. As said before, I think the issue is not that the internet or texting make people use bad grammer. The issue is that the internet and texting make other people's bad grammer obvious to everyone else.

For me, Loose for lose....My "one single word" spelling pet peeve, which is abused beyond belief on any site pertinent to wheeled transport [a majority amongst those I visit, this forum not excluded], would have to be the use of break for brake! Aaaargh!
I bet they can't ******' drive, either. I'd rather be stupid and know how to drive & write.......and some of the smartest folks I've met can barely spell let alone write whilst uzing punctatctions.
