Dropped my keys, where could they be?!

When you get the other key out try dropping it exactly the same way to see where it goes.

 
Get a third key to get your second key out (which you probably shouldn't have locked in a place that you need the first key to get at it), then take your second key and drop it the same way you did your first key. Watch where it goes. Then don't drop your third key there.Done.

Try picking the bike up and shaking it...preferably upside down...
There is a whole thread devoted to this topic, somewhere. Lots of wise advice had been given on how to pick up an FJR. No-one said anything about keys but........
Have a got a good rack on ya, Slide? It's rumored that it helps when lifting the bike. :unsure:

PS...... Try pushing down real hard on the latch holding the cover on the "glove box". I think you'll find that it will open in spite of the fact you aren't using the key in the ignition. Several members (myself included) have done this. It does of course, render the so called lock more useless, if that is really possible. That way, you can get your spare key. Try it, I'm not kidding. Come to think of it, I wasn't kidding about rack size either.

 
I'm with Bob. It's a relief to know I'm not the only one.

Compressed air sounds like the way to go. If that's not available you might consider a garden hose - just keep clear of that sewer drain.

Have ya tried using a dental/mechanix type little swivel mirror ? And if ya lift the tank, mind those hoses...some of the vent hoses on gen.1 bikes can get caught/stuck or the fuel pump wires might hang on some little chingaso clamp...axe me how I know :rolleyes: ! And the FJR is your FIRST bike :dribble: ?! At least we know you wont lose yer nuts....make that balls...I've dropped nuts down there! :clapping: ! Best of luck sliderule !

So any way, the "security" device is gone. The spare key is safe. And I only have three bolts left. ?!?! How do you have spare parts left when it all came from the samething you started with??!!?!?*%^(*# :huh:

My smarter half told me to tie a rope to the key then to my neck and long enough so I don't have to remove it from my neck to ride. My insureance agent did say to watch my back after we got the life ins. in place. HUMMM!!?? :blink:

I use a key ring with a large soft plastic tag on it. The soft plastic doesn't scratch anything and it's big enough to prevent the key from falling into any small places.

If you really have extra fasteners leftover, show us a picture of what they look like and we can probably tell you where they came from.

Push really really hard on the latch for the glove box, The little plastic doohicky will break and the box will open.. It will not lock again until you replace the dohicky... I took my box out and removed the locking solinoid..... I have having to turn my lost key on to get in my box.. Needs lucking up?? I lock it is a hardbag.... Usually my GIVI

If it wont go,,,, force it.

If it breaks it means you needed a new one anyway

Jew take the "T" bar off under the tank?? That is a structural thingy and uses three bolts.. Needs to be on or aliens will come down and take yer keys....... Hope you are joking about the extra parts. There are no extra parts under the tank except one throttle spring

 
I'll bet your key is under your tank. Remove the two 10mm (8mm?) screw at the front of the tank, loosen the bolt at the rear, get the seat out of the way, and rotate the tank back and take a look. I lost mine down there once.

Didn't lose mine there but agreeing with under the tank. Betcha they hit right between the uprights and slid downl Put one of those REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT tags on it.

I've got one of those tags on my keys! Does your's say "Edwards AFB" on it? Mine does.

I live in New Mexico, but I work at EAFB all the time. Maybe I'll see you on the FJR out there.

 
The extra screws where from the side fairings. I just backed up after my mind fog cleared and got them back in place. The dealer gave me the push pins I needed.

Thanks for all the help, encouragement, and not dog piling to heavy. I'm sure it will be on me next time stupid strikes.

I locked my key in the glovebox while on a trip.

Stopped for gas, took out my wallet and dropped the key in, snapped the lid shut!

Didn't have a spare with me.

I think I was in the middle of Kansas or somewhere about 1000 miles from my spare key.

Panic will help you squeeze that glovebox lid just enuf to open it and it worked just fine afterwards. Nuttin broke.

Didnt' make that mistake again, just invented new ones! :rolleyes:

I keep seeing this thread and went and bought a spare key.

Today while cleaning, the long missing key fell off my mesh jacket.

Wire ring was stuck on the inside.

 
Everytime I lose my key, I just go buy a new one at the Yami dealer and then take it to the locksmith to have it cut. After a 50-mile and 1/2 day journey, combined with the ridiculous cost of the blank, the lost key always reappears as soon as I get home. Motto of this story... Keys are jealous. Buy a new one and the old ones always show up to check out the competition.
