Well, since I am going to guess I have taken the role of " Head Prize Begger " or something along those lines, if there is anyone out there who would like to assist on trying to score some, let me know. I made a copy of the list from last year ( Thank you Heidi! :D ) and I would like to try to get something from all of them as well as possibly some new vendors/dealers/etc.

This afternoon, I sent an email to a company that I just saw their product in the back of Motorcyclist and the CEO already emailed me back. I asked for 1 of their product and I might get up to 3 of them. They look really interesting and I had never heard of them. Here is the link to their site for those interested in taking a peek at the first set of prizes up for grabs

Looky here

Good job! It is interesting to see things that manufacturers WANT to distribute for exposure. That's one less farkle that someone has to spend their hard-earned money on to review.

:)

Kind of what I thought. I was going to buy one anyway since I like the idea of having my med history available JUST IN CASE something were to happen while out riding.

Yes...I do ride year round. The commute from Williamsburg to Norfolk is 45 miles each way. My other vehicle is a diesel truck, which gets 15 mpg compared to 45 mpg on my bike, so I ride whenever possible. It's also nice to have the HOV advantage on the bike.
After the New Year, I will definitely be up for a getaway ride if you can work it. Maybe Heidi would want to join in. Any other takers? I was considering a ride from Richmond to Front Royal, down to Waynesboro, and back to Richmond. Total distance is about 325 miles. Nice for a weekend ride. Just need to decide on a weekend. Maybe stay at a B&B along the way. What do you think?

I voted for WV since I couldn't make it last year and missed out on all the fun. Besides, it appears with all these "Grunts" riding around they'll need a Navy Command Chief to point the way so they don't get lost. SF boys!

I'll help. A FNG has to earn his keep around here somehow. I'll look at the list and get to making some phone calls.

Yeah right, a swab jockey on land to point the way. ;)

I should have the drag pipes installed by then and will fit right in with you yuppies. :yahoo:

I voted WV Sept 19-21. I am on call that weekend but can probably get that changed. This years EOM was fantastic and once again thanks to all the planners for putting on a great event.

Alright folks,

Based on the results from this poll and FJRFencer's, and the apparent lack of interest on this EOM suggestion, we're on for Lewisburg 19-21 Sept 08. I will be getting room rates worked out with the hotel in the next week or so, but at this point, I know that they have rooms open and have welcomed us back (Thanks Jim!).

I will start a new thread once I have more info; for now, this much is solid: EOM 2008 in Lewisburg, WV on 19-21 September 2008. I'll also be asking for help / volunteers to pitch in for t-shirts, etc. Thompsonian (Dave) has already taken up the title of "Swag Gathering HMFIC". More to come...

**Disclaimer**
I am by no means trying to step on toes or hurt feelings with this post about EOM, it has been in the works for the better part of a week. FJRFencer has posted an offer to Host EOM in Alabama, which needs to be considered (and I added that option to this poll as well). Luvtoride has been trying to get someone to take the lead for some time now, but it should not fall solely on the same crew for a 2nd year in a row. So, please read this post and Fencer's completely and let's get this done.

** Disclaimer**

Ok folks, we need to get the ball rolling on EOM 2008. FJRFencer has made an offer to Host in Alabama (aka S-EOM). I’ve been talking to Luvtoride about taking EOM back to Lewisburg.

Our choice here then becomes returning to Lewisburg or exploring new territory in Alabama. We know what to expect in WV, and I’m sure that Fencer could keep us entertained in ‘Bama. There are pros and cons for both locations, but we need to make a decision on location soon.

I’ve been hesitant to throw my hat in the ring to this point due to nature of my profession. I can not guarantee that I will be here in September if the Corps allows me to go play in the sandbox (Iraq) or in the hills (Afghanistan) this year. The other is that I’m 1-3 states away from EOM worthy roads. And trust me, you don’t want it hosted in this part of South Carolina…

But we need to get things rolling, and I’ve been assured that if I get called away, other’s here will keep the event on track.

Luvtoride (Heidi) has baited the waters. Heidi, Jim & company have set the bar pretty high with EOM 2007. Lewisburg & the Brier Inn, IMHO, were an outstanding venue for EOM. There is also enough there in the way of good roads to warrant a 2nd visit. The route recon team (Jim, Heidi, Jeff A., and others??) put together enough routes for 2007 to carry over to 2008. I know that I’ll be spending some quality time on Potts Mtn / Rte 311 at some point this year! I’m sure that there are a couple of local members that could drum up a few new ones as well.

But I do know that the longer we wait, the harder it will be to find a hotel with the availability we need.

Lets consider dates; EOM has traditionally been held the 3rd weekend in September. This year, that falls on 19 – 21 September 2008. We also need to consider MotoGP Indianapolis on 12-14 September 2007. CFR has already booked 5-7 September 2008, and we had some riders attend both in 2007. Did I miss anything? So the weekends that are open right now during September would be either 19-21 September or 26-28 September. Or push into October, but I’m not sure how much the weather that time of the year would be a factor.

So, to the point, then. My proposal is that EOM ’08 return to Lewisburg, and hopefully the Brier Inn for part II. If there’s anyone else here willing to take the reigns for Lewisburg, then speak up. Our other option would be to take Fencer’s offer to explore ‘Bama.

If I were to move forward with the planning & coordination for Lewisburg, I’d need help; T-shirt whipping person, door prize begger(s), route planning, local coordination with hotel (can’t beat face to face time for free-bies!), logo design, registration, website, the list goes on.

I’ve put together events at work, from family picnics to Marine Corps Birthday Ball and Mess Nights, and I know they can be all consuming monsters.

So, lets hear your thoughts and suggestions (other than, “yup, sounds good to me”). If you vote for “other location” or “other date”, back it up with details. If you agree to one location or the other, include why(roads, scenery, weather, etc).

But ya know, I was SOOOO looking forward to Daytona

(Insert BORAT not HERE)

P.S. We know where 2009 will be already :punk:

I agree with the majority. WV End of Sept.

I also agree with Jeff in that I see no reason why it has to be a big to-do. Set up some room rates at the Brier. As them to put on a dinner one night and take a head count. Done! If someone has some routes fine, pass them out. If not they are sure easy to find once you are down there. Everyone just needs to show up.

While shirts and prizes are cool and make for a festive occasion it doesn't seem to be totaly required. Make it simple so no one gets hooked for a ton of work. You know your just going to end up polishing the bike with the T shirts sooner or later anyway.

Simple, easy, fun.

Of course this is certainly not to say that the efforts of those that decide to do all these things won't be appreciated. It very much is. I just think it will totaly acceptable without all that work.

Just my $.02

I found a new route conversion tool that appears to produce good files all the way back to Garmin v1. So I guess I'm volunteering to do the routes again.

There will be one special route just for Fencer.

:)

That graphic would look nice on the t-shirt.

I put the days on my vacation calendar. I'll be arriving on Thursday evening and leaving on Monday morning.

You're hired. I've got a bike for the special route.

That graphic is courtesy jwilly / extrememarine at EOM 07, and my wife after about 5 mins on her graphics program. It's a start; and I have a volunteer for t-shirts, too!!

I think the graphic looks great as is. I could help with the shirts if the first guy bails.

Now that it has been decided I too voted for Lewisburg and Sept 19.

Great time and I'll see If Adam Polishes got enough of a response from 07 to donate 100 detail spray again.

It's on my schedule!

Mark, I liked both of your donations... the polish & the earplugs. Who made those earplugs, again? Them's great! Used the hell out of that polish, too. That stuff is the kitties *******. For those of you that didn't grab any... too bad for you.
