To add just a bit more detail to Geezer's response; No, the EOM staff does not formally organize group rides - the liability associated with placing riders into groups and out on the road in the name of the event is not something I have ever been comfortable with. What we do promote is to take advantage of the parking lot social time to find like minded riders who want to ride the same route or have a specific destination in mind. Everyone rides at a different pace and skill set - we depend on every individual to be honest with themselves and make good decisions out on the road regarding the pace they ride.

Are the Friday and Saturday rides organized group rides?

Jeez, Wayne... there you go making sense again... ;)

I've bugged tby about making room reservations for weeks now, so here's hoping he booked something. I'm not nagging any more.

No need to nag...yer a big girl...make the reservation.
Stop adding logic to this space, that's not how it works around here!

Actually, I swear there was a reason I refrained from making the reservation myself, but I can't think of what it was now.

Well...hope to see you there.

Just to add a little emphasis to riding your own ride; It is easy to get hooked up with riders that ride a faster pace than you are comfortable with when you are new to the meet. That happens, but it isn't the end of the ride if you are in my group. I will always wait at turns to keep the group together. I would much rather do that than have to go back and find someone in a ditch, because they pushed a little too much. I can't speak for everyone, but I am pretty sure that is the norm with everyone. There is no prize for finishing a route the fastest. This also brings another point to mind. If you are in a group that is too fast for your liking don't just bail. Go to the next turn where the group will be waiting and let them know you are bailing. People not doing so has been the source of a lot of anguish for many.

Good point Bob. If Jacqueline comes to EOM, I guess I'll have to find a new group to ride with...or just go off by ourselves.
That's too bad she doesn't like a brisk pace like some pillions do. But you know you can find others with whom to ride, no matter how you ride!

Well if Jacqueline does attend and I am there, I would still expect to ride with you. I don't have to push the envelope all the time! I would love to experience a ride with both of you.

What memories! That ride on the dragon last year cured Spanky of any desire for a pace like that again! If I have to slow down to keep her riding with me that is a no brainer!

The plan is to ease her into becoming more comfortable on the bike. She has never been on the bike for more than a couple of hours. I will have to learn to smell the roses, if I want to have her along on any trips.

I'm ok with a less-brisk pace as well. Pillion or not. I like the scenery as much as the pavement...

Count us in on Saturday 2-up ride too. We'll be there two up (or not at all) and I've pretty much mastered the whole riding with pillions in tow thing,. The real trick is stopping often enough. When by myself I just keep going all day 'till either I have to pee or fill up, which I try to synchronize, but coffee intake in the AM, and diuretics for BP, can foul things up sometimes. ;) .

With just my missus on-board we stop about every 2 hours at the max. With other two-ups following behind us I try to trim that to a bit more often-er. Sometimes the other ladies let me know if I'm pushing it too long as we do have a few friends older than ourselves.

What the back-seat gals do seem to enjoy, maybe even more than the rides themselves, is all the socializing at the stops. More stops is more socializing. Also when these stops are at more interesting places than a porta-potty on the side of the interstate, that helps a real lot. ;)

Anyway, my point is, don't sweat it, Joe. This isn't a stag-fest macho thing. You can stand down from the sword measurements and enjoy yourself with your SO and not get goaded by the testosterone overload crowd. It's really more about where your own head is at than anything else.

Hey, we did the Bourbon Trail ride (in the pouring rain) in Kentucky together that year. That was slow, and soggy, especially the first half. But you know what? That was a great day. The tour at Buffalo Trace was great. The barbeque at the Red star was awesome. Joann and I both enjoyed that day equally as much as (I did) the next day when we ran around at a much faster pace on the dry roads.

It's really all about where your own head is at. Fun can be had in many ways. Vive la difference!

Fred, that was a great ride, despite the rain. I kept chuckling riding in the rain...it just kept coming down harder and harder. Lunch was great, as was the tour of Buffalo Trace. That was a trip that will not be forgotten anytime soon.

The one place that I do want to stop, is Paint Bank, maybe for lunch. I stopped there when I was down to WV in September with Jim (spklbuk) and Mike (powerman).
