Yeah, it does seem so. But with the typical gathering in the AARP age range, being able to see names and know who you are talking to evidently is important. For smaller gatherings you will usually know most there, whereas at larger gatherings you will not know most by face walking in to the meet.

That's the reason for the nametag talk.

(But if the organizer or check-in help are so drunk on moonshine strawberries that they use a sharpy marker on the screen of their laptop, larger font size ain't gonna help them too much.)

Ok, I'll change the discussion.

Must be something else going on in the same area. Tripadvisor had 4 other hotels sold out also.
Interesting me thinks,

Wayne, That manager must not like you...MSTA has a Fall Colors Ride...Rooms were $72 which isn't bad...
There is more to it than just room rates. The site needs to be big enough to handle the crowd, willing to deal with >100 motorcycles, have a function room that can handle a banquet and let us hold a meeting. The first EOM in WV the site also set us up with another room where Jeff used AV equipment to teach GPS 101. Heck, they didn't even call the police when there were 100 drunks wandering around the parking lot at 2:00 am

The discounting can include the banquet, function rooms as well as the guest rooms so some of the savings aren't apparent. It is pretty common for the sites to offer the organizer a special deal, it is great for the site to have a large, almost guaranteed group planned in advance and lasting over several days.
Been there in 07, was there for two Fall Color's rides which had about 75 riders each time, and one other which I don't recall at the moment, maybe just passing through which I normally do several times each summer.. They had the additional room for MSTN for various admin functions; however, the group did not want a big, fancy ball; they came to ride.

You do get a decent super continental breakfast and I believe you can go to the restaurant for a full breakfast; however, most people went to Shoney's fwhich is in walking distance. Most people either went to the Ruby Tuesday's or downtown for dinner which has a good selection of taverns and restaurants. They do have a large banquet room which was used in 07.
Just got the MSTA review and they've listed the same weekend and the same Quality Inn as HQ for their Fall Colors Ride. (Room booked earlier and looking forward to it btw.)

Whoa - so much discussion about lanyards and name tags...

I thought it was just because it is winter and we have nothing else to talk about... ;)

Ruh roh.

How big are these MSTA gatherings usually?

Figuring that EOM usually draws over a hundred folks, how confusing is this likely to become?

That Quality Inn is a pretty big place, but it is a good idea to book early rather than risk missing out.

I never heard of MSTA before, but it looks like they are a sport touring organization so they should have motorcycles and riding styles similar to ours and we should mix in pretty well.

Winter? Has that started already?

Regarding MSTA, a good reason for nametags, and getting out the door early on some clearer, emptier roads...

MSTA has a Fall Colors Ride every last week end in Sept or first week end in Oct. Actually I think it might be the same week end in 2015. Rooms were $72 which isn't bad. Not sure what they are charging us because only the manager knows that rate at this time. They did give the MSTA organizer some breaks but I'm not sure what they were.
This from "OldButNotDead" on the MSTA forum...

"Not sure how this will work with the FeeJer boys, they have a larger percentage of a-holes than any group south of HD."

So Rod...will you be hanging with the a-hole FeeJer boys, or the MSTA guys?

Holy Hatfield & McCoys. I'm already hearing banjos. We need to get our collective a-holes over to that site and defend our honor on the internet PDQ.

I think we'll both be OK there. It may actually be kinda fun. Say, how about a parking lot tug-a-war, winner takes the others bikes? lol. Kood be Interesting!. Of course we've had several other meets/events where/including some small groups reserved into our motel, but not any 100 vs 100 peeps stuff. Dang, this will be kewl!!!!

So I'm in with this. They say they are also, and, they are maybe looking to expand their base membership. I also see they are stepping up their game and wanting members to come in on Thurs now.

Here's the thread if anyone cares.

It seems that OldButNotDead will not be answering you, at least not here. Looks like he has been permanently banned for playing membership games (member status is "Squashed Sock Puppet"). This may explain his attitude on the MSTA forum. Not sure what the full story is...

Hah. Met a guy at a BMW rally a long time ago. Went by "Weasel." Said he preferred to ride with the Japanese bike folks, party with the HD folks, and talk with the BMW folks. If the FeeJer boys are the a-holes...count me in.

Interesting, I'm a member of MSTA also and have not heard the comment exposed by their one newer member (60 posts), Oldbutnotdead. What is really funny is that this guy rides a 2014 FJR1300A, based on his avatar! Maybe someone here pissed him off and he scurried away but still does on us?

Well, I know Wayne can be an arsehole sometimes, but no need to lump the rest of us in with him!

I know some ******** here that will give you the shirt off your back if you really need it. (They're still ******** though)

But they're our ********...(insert picture of Bust's best side here...)

Back to the thread in hand...I will know shortly whether I can become an official EOM attender this year. It will rock if I can...knowing that there are MANY roads between here and Lewisburg, and even more to ride when I get there!

Even though I no longer ride a Feej, I still consider myself one of those FJR a-holes ;)

That whole conversation is kinda weird as they don't seem brand specific by any means. Fred may have hit the nail on the head... maybe we'll call him Fred-head!

As far as I'm concerned, you will always be one of those feejer a-holes, KJ! ;-)

I had the unfortunate experience of engaging oldBut' in a thread on another FJR forum, it had the same joy as sticking your hand in a running blender. It's ironic that he talks about other people being a-holes.

With the rapidly increasing rider groups focusing on the hotel I may have to get our reservations in sooner than planned. Next we will be hearing that HD & BMW groups are going to be holding a rally in the hotel the same weekend
