I just voted for Lewisburg. It was unbelievable. I rode in the rain for two days in a 14 rider group and it was amazing. While riding, I saw some of the most beautiful stuff I've ever seen in my life. I'd love to go back in the sunshine and stop and really appreciate some of those pristine small towns. All the places I wanted to visit were not to be this time. I blame Tyler for that. :) . I wanted to ride with her and by golly, I did. Kudos to FYB for taking us newbies through what he knew were the must ride roads. He was right. I'm buying Bob dinner next time as a thank you. Those tours were Awesome! :)

I haven't voted as I am not well versed with the other areas but trust those that do know... that said, I agree with Vic... more time around the Lewisburg area would be fun... maybe stop in some of the little towns we only rode through this time... and never did get to the Grandma's pie place... :)

You and Joe rode right past Rella's on your way south on WV20 first day out. Her place is right beside the road. :uhoh:

This is the view of Rella's you would have had as you rode by, minus my motor.
I saw the place, as we rode by...there just was no time for pie.

I do like pie...but wanted to get down to Lewisburg before dark.

Any one of those locations sounds good to me!. Yep, I'm a venture ****, and there's no chopped liver on that list!.

I did vote for Lewisburg however, being we got basically 2 rain days during '15 EOM, it felt kinda like we got cheated ...well, with all that was potentially out there (route wise). Good lodging also, they pretty much let us do our own thang, and, we did take right over!. Say, was there another M/C group there with us? hmmmm.... nope!, no appearance, no presence!... didn't happen!

Basically you name it, I will follow

I voted for Cumberland Falls but would not mind going back to Lewisburg in the least. The rain ... rained on my riding parade and I do not feel like we got to see or experience enough of the scenery or roads there. I might, however, choose to stay at the Hampton Inn next time :)

With the weather this year in Lewisburg cutting into our riding time over the weekend, I would be fine going back next year to have the opportunity to explore the roads in that area.

I really enjoy Lewisburg and wanted to vote for that, but I also want to hear more about Cumberland Falls. I'm not at all acquainted with it and figure if it is second place, we can have a detailed discussion and run-off vote. So Cumberland.

I wasn't entirely enamoured with Cumberland Falls. The accommodations are in need of a freshening, the routes in the area, were un-ridden before hand so it was pretty much a crap shoot (Ended up on the side of a mountain on a gravel path). In 3 days riding there I only found one road that I would term interesting, and it was stumble upon, not on any marked route and far to the east of Cumberland (I think I was in Virginia actually).

I'll give it a second chance, but IMO, all of the other venues were better.

Cumberland Falls is a great venue...as long as you're not camping in a tent. Lots of great roads in the area, including the entrance road. If you get lucky enough to be there for the "Moonbow", it is something pretty cool to see. And then there's the Bourbon Trail.
I would go back.

I'm even more interested after following Joe's links. I doubt we could get a vast number of rooms during a full moon weekend (Moonbow). But man, that would be wayy kewl!. If we stay at that State Park lodge, what visuals we will have, right in and around our hotel!. Wowza!

Then Steve chimes in with a slight buzz-kill.

I don't know about that Steve...the group I rode with had a blast, and Dwayne (PCA owner) even ended up putting his bike in a creek, now that was a spirited ride. And then there was the trip up to Buffalo Trace, along with lunch at the Red Star BBQ...it was a little wet, but I think we all had fun.

IMO, Cumberland Falls was just ok. I am not sure that I'd like to go back. Lewisburg is great.... but most of my Non-EOM related riding is done in WV in that area. That is why I voted for something differerent. I'd go back to Lewisburg in all likelihood. I probably wouldn't put the time & effort in that it takes for me to get to Cumberland Falls, again. Been there, done that.

Might I suggest another pie place if there is a next time...Mumsey's Iron Skillet in Richwood. I wasn't along, but I bet you rode right by that one too when following FYB.

Moral to the story...neither Joe or Bob know their azz from 3rd base!
tonguesmiley.gif
This coming from my mentor! If I failed in any way it's your fault Jim!!

We didn't go through Richwood. Mumsey's has excellent pie, but their dining service has been terribly slow every time I stopped.

My route planning was to provide the best bang for the buck without riding everyone through the rain. I would have altered our routes had we not had to be concerned with rain.

No complaints on Pies n Pints here, delish!. Maybe if we go back to L-burg; a lunch stop to Mumsey's will be on tap!?.

Mumsey's orders are prepared from scratch unless you opt for the daily special (hence Bob's slow service, though he needs to relax, pace is just different from his usual environ). A stop at Mumsey's (and Rella's on WV20N) is to be savored. Plan an hour for a group and all will be well. Call ahead and they recruit local their troops to make ready for an invasion.

Follow the directions on the sign...eat the pie first!...main course serving sizes are entirely too generous and you will have no room for dessert. The carmel apple walnut pie is out of this world. These little old ladies have been baking them a long time and have it down pat. I have been known to ride 60 miles of gravel/dirt just to sample it.

Whatever you have, you will waddle back to your bike.
