Delivery scheduled for Friday, Feb. 7.

Long range forecast is predicting 12º f for a high that day. I think I'll have to test out the heated grips!

Damn! Gurnee, IL! Sounds like the 2014 deliveries are getting closer to Dubuque, IA. Just waiting for the call..............

Good for you! I feel sure you'll be very happy with the FJR. Buying in the winter tends to trigger boredom-farkling. DAMHIK.

She has arrived.......but still in the crate.
That's a good picture and (a bit off topic) shows how little "setup" is actually required to assemble the FJR. There is more to be done after the front wheel is installed but its hard to justify the $300-400 charge that some dealers try to add to the MSRP.

Wow, Yamaha is still using a Gen I crate to ship the Gen III.

Ain't recycling grand? Plus, that there design needs no improvement.

That's far more assembly than a car needs, and those guys try to charge twice as much for "Dealer prep."

I was at a dealer in December who showed me a '14 in the crate. The waterproof cover over the crate is a piece of work, don't know if they had to dispose of it or return it..... and I'd imagine it takes a couple of hours or so to get it out of the crate and assemble everything, move it around, etc. There are labour costs involved, don't know that I could legitimately complain that much about some dealer prep costs, especially if you can buy it under list.

At the time I got my Gen I the dealers were throwing the crates away. My dealer had a stack of crates out back and they were free for the taking if I wanted one. Dunno what they are doing with the crates today.

Congrats on the new '13 FJR psajunk!
May want to consider attending NAFO 2014 as it's just a short ride for you!

Calendar is marked.

I'm sending two off to college this fall, and attending a destination (Mexico) wedding in November. Unfortunately I only have so much vacation time available, but I would love to attend CFO/NAFO.

Good news is, one son is attending UW-Madison, and I've ridden the roads west of there a few times (Slimey Crud Run). I think I can escape for a weekend "visit" several times this year.

I hear that. Here's a whole tube of "Dealer Prep" for about $5

When I was recently negotiating with a new car dealership (for a used Jeep) the sales guy informed me that he would also have to charge me $250 in "Dealer Prep" for the car. I told him sure... you can have that, just make sure you take it out of the price of the car. To which he replied, oh come on now, all dealers charge for dealer prep. Ours is pretty low.

I told him what I thought about that tactic: The preparation of a car to make it sale-able is part of his cost of doing business. It's partly why a dealership gets more than a private party would for selling the same vehicle. I mean, what's he going to do, not clean the car up to make it ready for sale?

But I can't complain. A better salesman wouldn't have revealed the "Prep Charge" until after the price was fully negotiated. He tipped his hand early in the first go-round (before the first trip to see the sales manager) In the end, I paid his sacred "Dealer Prep" (it was permanently inked into their P&S contracts) after we knocked another $700 off the price.

Oh, and to the OP: Congrats. You are going to enjoy that bike a lot.

After four years of lurking you have probably learned a few things about your new FJR and about this forum. Which is unfortunate. I was so looking forward to some "Noob Questions". Does this mean you are not going to ask us what oil is best? No questions about tire (brand, pressure, mileage)? No questions about the seat? Spark plugs? Gear oil?

I congratulate you on your purchase, I look forward to you being a posting member of this forum. Thanks for reading and researching ahead of time.

So about these side vents, should they be in or out in the winter?

Congratulations!!! Hey look, there's another red one in the back!! Is that one spoken for?
Someone ordered one before me, and the dealer ordered a third one for the floor. The first one would have been delivered today if it wouldn't have snowed this morning and made the roads sloppy. Shooting for Monday, my next day off. At least I have my 08 black beauty to gaze at yet!
