FJ-09 replaced by Tracer 900 ?

Why would I spend new dollars and then paint parts especially when they have non-icky colored ones on the non-GT version. Pretty sure you could get a dealer to swap 'em out, instead of looking like a cheap redneck. (no offense to my cheap redneck friends here ....you know you are loved LOL)

Yeah if they were the same performance that would be a better way to change the color. But I just read that the gold colored forks are part of the high performance suspension package on the GT that youd be paying extra for.

They are making Honda and Triumph look better all the time

 
I think the American market for this type of bike is expanding. It appeals to people who are looking for a lighter ST bike, and don't want to have to buy an adventure bike just to get the lighter bike (which BTW is usually not that much lighter). Older experienced riders that aren't quite ready for the trike (or to quit altogether), but find the FJR and others just too heavy to handle. IMO - this demographic is one of the few in this country that actually has MONEY to buy a motorcycle.

I think the European market for this will remain strong, but is not as strong as many think. When I was in Europe, I found TONS of motorcycles with hard luggage and wind protection being used as daily riders. But overwhelmingly, the majority of these bikes were 500 cc and below, certainly 750cc and below. To them, the Tracer is a big bike.

Am I out in left field on this?

Not at all. In fact, if they made a version of the Tacer-GT

based on the FZ-07, Id be all over it for those very reasons.

Am I the only one that wishes Yamaha (and other bike manufacturers) would actually ask seasoned riders what they want? Maybe they do, but if so, I don't think they listen much....
With the changes being made to the upcoming Tracer 900GT, I have a feeling Yamaha listened or read what people wanted to see in their FJ-09 and it will finally be available.

The GT with hard bags, cruise, heated grips, supposedly an updated suspension, and a larger windscreen was what they should have had from the start.

Will be interesting to see what they have for a selling price compared to the FJR.
When I first sat on a FJ-09 the two things that bothered me was the seat and the wide handlebars.

Looks like they addressed both of these items.

It will be tough to offer all the features on the GT at a low enough price to compete with the leftover FJR's in the dealer's stock.

 
Didn't see cruise control, but did see chain drive.
Alas. Perhaps it's not too late ... ?

<edit> I suppose shaft drive requires a larger engine than 900 cc .... although my ancient Yamaha 750 Special had an incredibly smooth shaft drive.
Had a distinct aversion to chain slappers myself, dating from the mid 70s. Amazing the latest chain technologies, my 2014 V-strom 1000 has had one initial adjustment since new and now has over 11000 miles(bought in late 2015, and shares time with the fjr). Spray cleaner, garden hose and clear chain lube. Opinions change when looking for light weight as age and arthritis are gaining.
