El Gordo, move the VibeRider from the Vmax to the FZ6 and then we will see the true story...... :yahoo:
Then all I'd have to do is sit on the FZ in the garage on the centerstand...*L*

Nevermind, some of us do like to ride yanno...

Yer a brat, looking forward to our date at NAFO...*L*

I think the question you have to ask yourself is what do you want to ride? -----------> A cruiser or a sport (touring) bike?

Those two machines are both tops in each category.

I had a 1989 Vmax for 13 years and wouldn't make a comparison they are both different bikes.

The Vmax is good for bar hopping :yahoo: My Vmax Website

Ok i own a yamaha vmax but i really want a fjr . I have never riden an fjr i have sit on many but never had the chance to ride one .
I was woundering witch bike has more power the vmax or fjr. I know as far as comfort im sure the fjr is much more comforable then mad max and top speed i bet is pretty close . The wife said wait till next year then get an 09 man i can hardly wait till sept to see what they have .

I would love to hear any options you guys have thanks .

I had a V-Max ... Like all bikes , fun to ride. But the V-max is like a "65" GTO ... Go like hell in a straight line, won't stop or corner worth a darn.. just my 2 cents worth ,,, :dribble:

I have both and they are very different bikes. Power wise, the V-Max launches very hard and has the additional punch from 5000 rpm on. Having said that, I'd say in a drag race it would come down to rider ability. I just got the FJR two weeks ago and bought the Max new in '04. The FJR is the first bike I have ever owned that I immediately liked and felt comfortable on with the first ride.

I probably have not answered your question/dilema, except to say I like them both a lot and they are VERY different machines. Around town, the V-Max is kind of like a lighter, really fast Harley, in short a hoot to ride. Any serious highway rides, or longer trips and I will take the FJR, or Honda ST1100,(another story in itself).

Jack.

My mad max is an 1985 the first year i really love it and have a few bike in my collection. I will always keep my max but right now im riding a klr 650 its an 05 and has about 28 thousand miles on it and i really enjoy it . But i like to go on trips last year we did labador city and newfound in canada and try to go to the vintage motorcycle days in ohio and i live in Maine.

I would just like to have something a little bigger more power and longer legs 80+ on the klr really streaches it out .I have been reading so much about the fjr i was just woundered the power compared to my max .

thanks again

I had an 89 V-max. I loved that bike. Had to sell it to get the FJR. Wished I could have figured out a way to keep it. I didn't think mine handled all that bad, but it was no FJR. I'm very interested in the new Max. I don't think there's much of a question that it will be faster than the old model and have a lot better suspension and tires. It should handle much better. If it looks pretty good I may end up with one parked next to my FJR some day.

From MCN tests:

Bike 0-60 RWHP RWTQ 1/4mi 1/4speed

97max 3.33 113 83 11.09 121

03FJR 2.97 120 87 10.68 126

07FJR 3.20 119 85 11.12 119

Seem to recall earlier tests of the max showing mid 10's in the 1/4

The early model v-maxs(80's) were a little more powerfull and faster. Somehow Yamaha gets their bikes to run slower over the life of the model production. I read a test in an old Cycle World I think, where they took a first or second year model v-max and ran it in the very low 10's and High 9's without a lot of alteration to the bike.

I have an '89 FJ1200 that I put 80 k on-one of my buddies has a VMax-They run side by side until a buck 30 or so when the FJ leaves the Mad Max. I also have an 06 FJR and can tell you that thru the gears it's bye bye FJR. It's a matter of gearing, plain and simple. The FJR is worlds better than my old FJ or the VMax in every other way tho. If you need more juice just shift down one..

I think the 07FJR time above is for the AE not the A. The A model turns mid to high 10's.

I've always thought that Yamaha should do some more development on that V-4 engine. I have an 84 Venture and really liked the way it ran. I understand they de-tuned it a bit and took out a ballance shaft or something to make it feel more like a "cruiser" engine for the Royal Star bikes.

Also knew a guy that had stuffed a tweaked V-max motor into a Venture. He knew some midget-car racers that loved to use the Max motor in their race cars and knew how to get every last HP out of them. That thing would walk away from a stock V-Max in spite of the extra weight. :yahoo:

My brother has an 89 Max with a carb kit. It would simply walk away from my stock 06 Max. Last summer he and I did a few "experiments" between my 07 FJR and his Max. From a standing start, the Max hammered the FJR. However, when we got to fourth gear and top gear roll ons, the FJR spanked Max back (until the Max hit V-Boost range). I also passed him on a fast sweeper once which scared him since he felt the Max was at the limit of its speed/turning capacity. Then all the sudden he wanted to ride the FJR :D

God all i can say is I wanna ride an fjr I gotta try one sounds like fun
