Peter Delean (Brick1 on FJRForum list) was lightly rear-ended in the rain up near Chicago. He is fine. His FJR has a damaged front housing. One headlight works, the second is not presently working. There is damage to the cable connecting to the bulb.

He is scheduled to ride the IBR5000 departing Monday, Aug 16. He is looking for help in the Denver area to help fix or to work as a go between with a local Yamaha FJR dealer.

Peter is heading to Denver and will check e-mail tonight.

His phone is: (705) 499-8419, as of 1:30 PM Wed his mobile phone battery is dead. He will charge tonight.

He is riding with Cameron Sanders - phone: (705) 845-1931

It's weird how things happen. I haven't heard from Pete in years. We played in a band together about 38 years ago(Rubber Stud!). I called the phone number and sure enough, it's the same guy. I left a message for him to call me back. He always did have good choice of bikes.

Nice of NinjaBoy to help a fellow out.

P.S. Pete will probably kill me for mentioning the band name!

Hi guys. Steve, Jaker, could to hear from you.

Piss me off. Accident happenned on I-80 just east of Kalamazoo this morning. Traffic stopped abruptly for a serious accident about ten cars ahead of us. Thunder storms in the area at the time.

Cam and I stopped in the left lane behind a lady in a Lexus SUV. Looking in mirrors it was obvious person behind me was not going to stop on time. Cam moved to the center line, I was wedged into the left side of the left lane and the lady in front. He slid into me, giving me a good bump then pushing me into the lady ahead of me, who had the good sense to move forward before the contact.

I got thrown left, bike went right, landing on its left side. I was amazed at how great the gear worked. I landed on my left side elbow, shoulder, and hip - all heavily padded. I got up right away, more interested in the bike.

Slider saved serious damage to body panels and frame. Some scratches on bags, right side bag was on the ground. Most serious damage was to the nose piece which houses the headlights. The clear light-housing seems diconnected from the cowling. I got one headlight - left side - going, although it is aiming all over the place, The reflector on the right side is broken, although the loose piece is there and it should be repairable for the short term.

No damage to wheels or brakes. Bike runs fine otherwise.

What I want to do in Denver is get things patched up so that I can compete in the rally. I have aux Hi beams, they're fine (although right side mount is bent).

Need to get both low beams working. Ideally someone with FJR mechanical experience who is creative enough to figure out how to bindertwine, twist tie, and MaGyver things back together. There is no time to order a front end. Lets patch up what is there and make it workable.

Any body that can help can reach me at the Marriott. I'll be there for the Spank dinner Thursday evening.

Thanks in advance.

Peter - I am here in Denver and will help all I can. Unfortunately, I am pretty worried about your headlight housing based on the description. The houseing has four mounting tabs that attach it to the various fairing pieces. There are an additional four mounting points that hard mount it to the front subframe. My guess is all four tabs that mount to the fairing pieces are broken. They don't repair easy.

We'll figure out something. What rotten luck.

Damn cagers! This doesn't sound good but glad you weren't injured.

Not sure that reflector can be easily patched. I've got a headlight assembly that MAY be a little better. It's got three of the four mount points for the front stay broken, and some of the tabs broken, but the reflectors are good. I'm leaving Duluth tomorrow and could bring it with me. Should arrive sometime early Saturday afternoon. Have a slightly tweaked front stay if needed also.

Main thing is that your ok. Sounds like there are enough resources in that area to get you on your way. Let me know how everything transpired when you get back. I left a number on your cell. When things calm down give me a shout.

Damn the bad luck but I like your can-do spirit!

Fix it up, ride hard, laugh about it later.

Good luck Peter.

I hope there was a police report and cager had good insurance too. So glad ATGATT worked for you. I hope you can get things patched up enough for reliable use for this ride.

I'm in Denver at the Marriott, room 500. Bike made it. I feel great.

Friday morning in the parking lot we should me after breakfast and decide a plan of attack.

Have many here who are eager to help, but we need FJR knowledge.

stryg8r if you bring the reflector with you we should be golden. I know one piece I picked up off the ground was the beam adjustment screw.

SkooterG, you know much about these bikes. I need you there. You can wear the white hat! The rest of us will be foot soldiers.

We'll get whatever materials we need down here. Fasteners, ties, wire, drills, bits

I think we can bring this thing back to life. The engine is running strong.

On a personal note, I'm ready to pedal this rally if that's what I need to do to be a finisher.

But I'd rather ride.

Friday morning guys, I'll be out there early.

Insurance all around. Police report done. So we should be good.

I'm more than willing to offer up a prayer or two and send good mojo and juju your way.

Thank heaven only the bike is beat up some, but still up on two wheels with a strong power plant

sorry to interupt...there's a navy air doc and my beloved P-3's are being focused on...go Orion...

OK, back to our regularily scheduled banter

pls ride safe and be careful out there,

Mike in Nawlins'

heading for the Smokies in the a.m.

The reflector is packed. Should arrive early afternoon Saturday, maybe late morning. I'll look you up as soon as I get there.

Update:

Great news. With the help of a small army of volunteers we managed to tear the bike down in the parking lot at the Marriott and completely rebuild the damaged light housing using all the broken bits and about thirty pounds of epoxy.

We stripped everything off the front end and went to work. As expected all the mounts to the headlight housing were broken off. We had three of them still attached to the bike and we were able to piece things back together. It took five hours to piece the puzzle together.

Luckily, hanging around the parking lot are some of the greatest technicians anywhere. No dealer would have taken the time to do what we did yesterday.

All lights are functional now.

I was able to fix the lock on the right bag that got ripped off in the accident, and restore power to the Admore LEDs on the trunk case.

Tech inspection is later today or tomorrow. Believe it or not the bike is ready. So is the rider.

Thank you to everyone who chipped in.

Next news should be in Spartanburg next Saturday.
