Any one have a good suggestion on how best to remove the dumb yellow tank sticker that tells you to read your manual before operating (As if I need to be reminded of that every damn time I get on the bike)!? The one on my new 06' is a very well adhered sticker, which looks exceptionally crappy after removing about 20% of it with a now destroyed thumb-nail. I was worried about scratching the paint surface if I used anything else to mechanically remove it and the few chemicals I was willing to put on the new tank had zero effect on the label. What have you guys had success with?

Regards,

B

The first thing I tried to do when I bought my '05 was peel off that @#%$!&*! sticker, figuring it'd come off like the sticky on the lense of a new pair of sunglasses. I got the corner to come up just a wee bit before I backed off. That's where it stands, 9 months later.

Your thread reminds me of this recent news story: Wacky Warniing Labels

There is such a thing as a "stripe eater". You can get em at a body shop supply store. It is a wheel that looks like it's made of eraser material. Fits in a mandrel that fits in your high-speed drill or die grinder. Eats the sticker right off. Guaranteed not to damage finish. It's how body shops remove stripes and such.

Such as THIS

Mine all just fell off....with a little (very little) heat, a gentle thumbnail, then WD-40 to remove the "goo".

I've heard that "Goo Gone" works, but I've never tried it.

I got mine off with sticker remover I had to wipe more on about five times before it got soft and came off.

Scab- Thanks for the 3M product, it makes me a lot less concerned than a heat gun, moderation has not always been a strength of mine, Skyway, thanks for the post, sent you some paypal$$ today!

Regards,

B

I used a hair dryer and a finger nail to get mine off. A couple leftover Goo spots came off with a few drops of golf club grip solvent.

Works like a charm, but remember, the sooner you get it off after you take delivery the better!

Yep, The longer you leave it there the more it bakes on, the paint fades, leaving a neat? little reminder of where it was :(

:jester:

Parked mine in the sun for about two hours and then it peeled off like there was no glue on it at all. Only left an outline of residue. But let me know if you can find the sun - I haven't seen it for a while.

I just put a magnetic tank protector over it....

At the risk of sounding like admin ;) , you might try a search. I put this topic up last May when I got my '06 and there were a number of great suggestions. Not sure if that thread survived the hack from a few months back, but it's worth a shot...

I have always used a hair dryer set on low and the used a produst called "Glue-begone". You can buy it at most hardware and food stores. It woun't harm painted surfaces and will get rid of the residue from the sticker. GOOD LUCK.

Golf club grip solvent? Does the label say it's intended for use on painted surfaces? I doubt it.

Sticker removal-- as pointed out-- is such a common topic that a search will certainly give results. What surprises me, though, is that every time the topic comes up, destructive suggestions are given. <_<

BTW, GooGone is available most places and is safe.

I went nuts trying to get it off. Finally, I just added the removable tank bag (via Gas Cap Adapter) from SW-Motech. :)
