What I noticed is that he wasn't looking where he wanted to go. Its was like he saw the guard rail but didn't know how to prevent hitting it. That is why continued skill development is so important. He is also very luck that he stayed upright.
You have a good point. As a MSF Rider Coach we continually encourage students to "look where you want to go" but target fixation is a powerful thing that some, like myself have to continually fight. Even though we know better, it’s hard to take your eyes off the guard rail, debris on the road, or the little fuzzy critter to look where you want to go to avoid the hazard.

Yep,

Seen that sort of thing happen before, guy had to go empty his underwear out after the near disaster!

Cripes! All that money on the pretty butt-floss motobike......... Why don't you suggest to him that he spend a few measly hundred bucks on some advanced rider training.

I don't know for sure but I'll bet he was thinking that he was going to drop dat Bagger off da back, and when he couldn't shake him, he started riding way over his head. Ah, we've all been there, honestly though I am glad he didn't. "Wadd-up" hid 1198!!!!!!

We all know the "Olde" adage, He who lives to ride away, lives to crash-out another day.

But Hey, What do I know?

The Video; Amusing..............and familiar. Great Bike, novice Rider. Stats on the Ducati 1199 R are mind-blowing; 195 HP pushin' 364 lbs.

One phrase comes to mind; Throttle Control!

Original Post; Good refresher. Fun Bike, but how many miles would you actually ride it?

If I were to go brain dead for a day and actually buy one, I think I would take it on a lot of rides......a lot of very short rides.

Personally, I get just as much entertainment/thrill outta an FZ1 or this relatively new(to me) DR....................................................at a fraction the cost. But we all have different tastes and itches.......................................and bank accounts.

Went for a nice ride out Trail Hwy with a couple buddies the other day. We stopped half way for lunch. As we finished eating, my Ducati riding friend asks if I would like to ride his 1198 for a couple miles on the ride home. I quickly responded with a "HELL YES". His rules, no wheelies.Coming off the FJR and onto the Ducati was a shock to the ergos. I knew I was on something special. The seat was hard and only 3/4" thick. The exhaust runs directly underneath it, so the buns toast. I was careful with it as I adjusted to it's controls and responses to my inputs. After a minute or two it was time to feel the capabilities. This bike will get moving in a hurry. I look down to catch a glimpse of the speedo showing 140. Time to bring her down. The Brembo brakes were smooth and powerful. That couple miles turned into 60. I did accidentally pull the front wheel up just giving her a little juice, ooops(sorry Robert). The true joy was getting off the slab and onto some back roads. This bike was so effortless in the corners. It felt so light and nimble, yet so raw and powerful. After we got back we exchanged our thoughts. I thanked him for letting me ride his bike, as it was an experience I would probably never have gotten if not for his generosity. He said he was really impressed with the FJRs power and called it the flying couch. Getting back on my Yamaha quickly reminded my of how comfortable and refined this machine is. As much fun as that Ducati 1198 was, I wouldnt trade my FJR for any other bike.
Thanks for the flashback.

Back in the summer of '02 when I got the Wingabago, my late friend made a similar "flying couch" comment.

But the adjective wasn't 'flying', though it started with the same letter.

Different tools for different needs - thank doG!
