No, there is no database for you to look up whether it has already been completed or not online.

But you can call a Yamaha dealership with you VIN # and they can look it up on their system.

Don't do it!!!! I had mine changed after the original recall, then had a problem with the new one. Bike stalled when I started off on a tight left had turn. Just about the time I put my feet up on the pegs, it stalled slamming the bike to the ground. Yamaha stood behind replacing the TPS and about $1,200.00 in plastic.

Was this due to a bad "new" TPS, or the installation?

I just got a call from my dealer and they said, "Hey, do you still have that '03 FJR? There is a recall for the TPS."

Told them the bike runs fine, wasn't sure if I wanted to take a chance of a replacement TPS as I had heard others having problems afterwards, but decided to have them order the part and have it done in the very near future. After seeing this post from Dugman has me thinking twice-if it isn't broke, don't "fix" it?

As long as yours is doing fine...keep it in. Then when you need one, then do the Recall.

They did mine (was OK) with a new one and the fuel mileage dropped and would not give me the old one as a backup.

The way you will know you need one, is when the Throttle will exhibit some dead spots.

Are you sure? That doesn't make any sense, unless maybe they misaligned it when they put it in. Have you checked the DIAG screen for the fully open and closed values?

Same here! I called the phone number in post #1, gave the chick my Vin # and she told me it has already been done, the date it was done and the dealership who performed it.

Pretty cool!

Just had mine done Mar. 2011 25k. 05 FJR Never had a problem before or after.

Dealer had part in stock.Done in 1 hour, went for a short ride no problems.

Haven't been on board for a long while, nice to be back.

Short version: new to me 2005 in July 2014 with 6,500 miles on it. Had it at the local dealer for the 8,000 mile service and throttle body sync last month. It had one spell of what I would call throttle surge or deceleration before the service. I wrote it off to bad winter gas, treated it with Seafoam and it seemed OK.

Put about 40 miles on it a week ago and it surged a few times and died at a rolling stop once. Did some research here about FJR006 and it seemed to have a case of a bad TPS. Rode it to the dealer today and it surged about 10 times and died once in 20 miles.

Dealer checked the VIN and it comes up as not eligible for the TPS campaign. Dealer is going to read the fail codes and get back to me about what it is going to take to fix it.

My question to the board is, has anyone had a TPS problem with a non affected 2005 VIN? If so, were you able to appeal the repair to Yamaha customer service to get them to pay for it?

I have an 05, needed recall.

TPS was replaced by dealer 2011. Paint on screws was not on new TPS housing, so it was replaced.

Having the the same problems, but no stalling yet. Shutter. mis-fire when pulling away from stop.

I replaced engine a month ago, having transmission problems, used throttle body from old engine, idle up-down unstable. almost stalling,

Replaced TPS sensor today. Short test ride, no hesitation. Idle is smooth, forgot how it should be,

I don't believe Yamaha will cover it, 10 years old. Internet $ 150 or so. Updated part # Slightly differently looking TPS,

I had some issues replacing it, has tamper- proof torque screws. Lower screw is difficult to remove, frame blocking screw.

TPS will need to be set to proper setting after replacement, put in diag mode. 05 set to 15-17 fully closed throttle position.

TPSes of almost all fuel injected bikes can fail, and when they do they usually have the same type of symptoms. THe sensors are not made by the parent company, so many of the companies use the same units on multiple models of bike. I had the symptoms on my '04 Suzuki Vstrom, and replacing the TPS fixed it.

The FJRs were recalled was because the failure rate of the 04-05 bikes was inordinately higher than normal and someone lodged a complaint and got the attention of some regulatory agency. Apparently that didn't happen at Suzuki.

The TPS'es are not all that expensive (3P6-85885-00-00 ~ $130) if you can install it (and adjust it properly) yourself.

Update. After a discussion with Yamaha customer service and a product specialist, I was able to get Yamaha to pay for 50% of the cost of the TPS replacement. It now runs perfectly. Case closed.

Now see!! Right there is a big incentive to own Yamahas.

They didn't have to do that; they had already performed the recall once.
