How fitting is it that on this holiday weekend we witness (through words) the unselfish acts of strangers to help their fellow man in their time of need?

Well done, HRZ - very well done, indeed!

Looking at the locations pdf it's depressing to see verification that my state is just as boring as I thought. Barely a hill or curve and only 1 bonus in the entire state!

On the bright side, I very rarely see a cop outside the towns so you can run pretty much whatever speed you want between them other than harvest season (HUGE farm vehicles). ISP seems to only judge performance on the freeways.

When my riding buddy Lenny of BMW origins called me and told me there was an FJR coming in needing help with forks I called my shot and said Zilla is going to get involved. I kinda had it in the back of my mind that he may suck me in as well and started rounding up fork repair tools. The phone rang and sure enough it was AJ needing help. How can you resist? After some logistic issues Josh was escorted to the house where we were set to rock and roll through those forks, Every thing was going too good I thought, and then we had what is now known as a "GixxerJason" issue, While those around us were un-aware of the grave nature of our problem. I looked at AJ and he had the same look on his face. "We are ******.......and so is Josh's IBA ride" Well cooler heads prevailed, Lenny said" we just have to keep at it" and luck was on our side. We freed it up and the rest is history. Just very glad we didn't stop his run after trying to help him out. AJ has a big heart and I'm glad he thought of me as someone who could help him out. And I was able to participate in the IBA if even in a small way, Now "Go Josh" you have a new fan club here in Newer Mexico and we'll be there at the finish line with the cold beer you couldn't have last. Ride safe and make us proud!

Wow, I downloaded a PDF of the rally book totally cool book but after looking at the first few pages bonus's are time restricted to specific hours or times so it looks like riders will run at night to be ready for a daylight bonus. I guess that is one way to ensure that the riders get enough rest.
Yellowstone is the single 24/7 bonus in the list! WOW!

My instincts are to rest:

  • during rush hours if near a city center, or
  • the hottest parts of day in the south
My mind can't process BOTH of these options being excluded. Yes, this certainly explains the SPOT tracks; as if the map get's shaken like a snow globe, with all the crazy rider flakes flurrying is seemingly random directions when the sun comes up, then move a distance before setting to the bottom. Then...

SCREAMING MEANIE - Time to shake it up again!

Can't figure out how to repost a picture from my phone, but the standings have blown my mind. We've got so many awesome left-fielders here... It really gives you a better appreciation for the puzzle!!!

When people talk about the IBR most don't realize how much it means to the riders that they have the support of soo many.

Thanks to Hot Rod and all the others that help Josh. It somehow magically happens that at a checkpoint, complete strangers go to extraordinary measures to help the riders.

MANY MANY THANKS

Only one site in Illinois?

That would seem to eliminate Illinois being counted as one of the 25 states visited. Wonder what the points are for riding to the center of a state and only being able to claim one bonus and not the state.

What makes you think you can't claim it as a state? I don't see any reason at all for that...

Was thinking they needed two sites in each state to claim the state. NO?

Maybe I just need another cup of coffee?

I don't recall seeing that anywhere. If you're simply doing math, I can see where you get that, but I don't think that's true. You could get 26 in one state and then 1 each in 24 others as far as I can see... Could be wrong, it's happened once or twice before...

From the scribe:

“To be a finisher of the 2015 Iron Butt Rally, a rider must visit 50 US national parks in 25 states 1 before 10 AM (MDT), July 10, 2015.”

not 50 US national parks AND 25 states

Meow,

Peter

Josh is sitting in 2nd place. Great ride on leaky forks!

Really sad that Troy Martin finished the leg in 4th but can't continue.

I'm tickled to see rookie Erik Lipps sitting in 3rd place.

And he also had the second most efficient score of anybody in the Top 10. Assuming he got some decent rest, I think he's sitting in a premium spot going into Leg #2.

As well, Jeremy Loveall and Andy Mackey rocked on efficiency and with early scores they demonstrated solid rides.

Very interesting results overall. My personal Superman, Jim Owen, is somebody never to be discounted, but many other riders showed the old guy a thing or two...and I'm sure he's smiling about teaching them a thing or two over the years on how to organize massive data like this.

To see the two-up couple of Naval Commanders Good & Bergman are cool as well and my friends that rode as a two-up before and separate including rookie rider Lynda Lahman up there in efficiency is cool too.

Great results this morning. Fodder for massive amounts of analysis, explanation, and speculation. I'm sure Leg 2 is going to be similarly interesting.

2 bonii questions (2015 IBR specific, please):

  • Does each of the 347 location have a point value in each of the three legs? (I understand the values will change with each leg, but are any sites besides potentially the group pics pointless
    winksmiley02.gif
    )
  • Is it typical in the IBR to know all the locations, but not which ones have values until that bonus is called up on that leg?
Signed,
Too lazy to re-read every previous IBR report since 1984.
