I believe one in Leg 1, another in Leg 2, and probably one or two in this Leg. Generally they have 24 hour period to start the bonus...giving much rider discretion and in whatever time zone they are. My guess Is Tuesday and Thursday or Monday and Wednesday if two in this leg.
The IBR rewards resting well with points.

There's 2 I believe. Not sure of the specific days, but yes, the riders have loads of discretion on precisely when to take them, which is how it should be.

Looks like one bonus in Newfoundland is the Corner Brook Museum and Archives since a rider was just in the parking lot next door. We know there is also the dog statue farther in and an octopus. Maybe building a land/sea string?

Anybody know what's going on with the rider in Oregon? I see a red "help" spot flag.

I was wondering about that earlier. What does a red flag mean? Is it more of a 911 situation? I don't have a spot tracker so it's unbeknown to me. Not sure if there is different levels to it. Like I just have a flat and need help. Maybe someone can explain.

Not necessarily.... could be a breakdown, flat tire, out of gas. etc. Or, it could mean something else. I am sure the rider has made appropriate calls by now.

AFAIK Spotwalla doesn't see 911 emergency signal from SPOT.

The RED you see is probably a non-emergency call for help.

I would imagine the staff is already on it..

I'm up and watching 4-5 having gone to Newfoundland, had good rest, and are attacking an island in mostly sunny 70s weather. Perfect.

I do see some variation on routing. While Channel-Port aux Basques to St. John is mostly out-and-back (unless they are going on to Labrador....which I really doubt given less than 3 days), I think I see somebody headed to Robert's Arm while others continue. And I saw a small diversion to Corner Brook. Seems like 3 or more bonuses out here so far and probably different ways to scoop them up. I'm betting rally rider CPUs are over-clocked and their GPS running myriad "what-if" scenarios of the island AND after getting back to the mainland.

If they're coming back to the same ferry, it looks like 11:45 pm or 11:45 am again for departure with expectation of 9:45 check-in. That's 10-12 hours of riding time....or 22-24. I'm having trouble making those work efficiently....too short or too long unless they have tons of off the main route stuff to do or bonus(es) up towards the northern tip. The later ferry makes it hard to get back to the finish in time though...

Wait! Special extra sailing once a week. 6:45 am on Wednesday! Another little nugget the RM is throwing in there to separate the top runners? Could we see riders go back to their launch point around 5 am ADT?

If so, Another 7 hour rest after riding a day...this pack of riders could find themselves relatively well rested for the last 44 hours of the rally. Elegant.

Jeff Earls is a rally puzzle savant! So wishing I could be in it.... let alone having the rare ability of these riders to imagine, commit to, and execute this particular choice. 2017 is going to be an epic IBR.

Speaking of ferries, there's another rider who went after the bonus on Long Island. If he'll be going north from there I wonder if he's aware of the ferry which would drop him off in New London. If timed right that could save a considerable amount of time and traffic aggravation going back as he came and would also give him a nice hour break off the bike.

I do not remember the rest bonus rules... but I am thinking that a rider can not take an official rest bonus while on a ferry while moving towards a bonus location (?)

IBR Rider in Maine needs help:

Mike Heitkamp is on I-95 50 miles west of Houlton Maine with a large hole in his rear tire. He is plugging it but has several plugs in already and it is not holding air, even long enough to move down the road. There is a truck stop in Houlton that might be able to patch it that is open today if he could get his wheel there. Otherwise he is also looking at an option to get it into Canada where there are open MC shops today.


He has a 2015 GSA. Can anyone in the area offer assistance? Please call or text me, 952-412-6235.
