Hey Jim (fljab)

Apologies for not letting you know that I was bailing on the tech day. Appreciate your open invite though and hope we meet up soon.

Hi to all that did attend, trust you had an interesting day and a safe ride.

Good to here from you, Jim. It's been a while. Any plans to make the EOM?
No; Tony has been hitting me up to go, but wifey & I are keeping that time open to hopefully do a military space-a to UK or Europe. I'll probably be bitchin' when my balls are frozed in a C130 while it's lumbering along the way over the pond, but hey, that's adventure!

No problem.

We had a good crowd. Rob changed his oil, but most of the work was to get 101st's rear brakes done, which turned out to be fairly involved. Snapped one of the slide pins right away, and the rest of the time was getting that drilled out and making him a new one from a bolt I got down at the local hardware store.

I need to keep up better. Hope to see you all down the road - maybe at AIM Expo this yr? I do want to do that again for sure.

Glad all had a good day. Not gonna make EOM this year. Too far or not enough

time off available. More of the latter. When is the AIM show? Breakfast at least.

Sorry Jim. I was speaking to the other Jim (FRFJRS) Shoulda added his call sign. But! Technically, that applies to you too. :)

Made it home, with some bad weather on I-4 near 27, down to 30 mph all lanes.

It was great to see Jim and Tony again, even if those brakes were a *****. Also, it was a pleasure to meet Mike and Uncle Hud. Hud, do check in when you get home :)

Jim, thank you for hosting us. You are always such a great host, who opens up his house, garage, and the massive multitude of tools for everyone to use. Thank you!

Once again it was one of my bikes needing the most work…

I am very appreciative for the help Rob & Jim! (And Molly of course) Seems like solutions far beyond my capabilities occur at Jim's garage

Looking for a rotor now…

Home safely -- at last.

LKLD showed me some ugly red and orange stuff on his phone as I was leaving. Turned out to be the heaviest and most persistent rain I can remember in many, many years. For about 15 minutes, I just parked the bike on the shoulder of I-75 North and stood in the rain. That was a HELL of a lot safer than trying to ride in it.

I gave up on the SS1K after four hours of riding from Tampa and only getting to Gainesville. Turns out I got home in 22 hours with almost 1,200 miles (from trying to find shelter all over the Florida Gulf Coast). So ...... hooray! ..... got to meet some Florida boys, and met the SS1K criteria.

Look for the ride report in a few days.

Forgot to say thanks to fljab for hosting and for sharing a bunch of bubblehead stories. And thanks to his wife for the super-chocolate brownies!

Thanks, Jim!

Is that rear still working A-OK? At least order the slide pin and boot and replace that home made setup.

Pin, Slide p/n 5JW-25914-10-00

Boot 2 p/n 4TT-25937-00-00

If you can source a rotor, that would be good too of course, but I'm worried about frozen fasteners getting yours off. But hey, that bike of yours is always an adventure!

Glad to hear you made it home safely and completed your SS1K! We need to do a northern GA run sometime!

And, lots of rain is no problemo - for a bubblehead! Great to talk to someone that speaks the language from the old country...

Great meeting you !

Congrats on your ride!

Ok, I guess I'm the only one to take a photo here or there. So, here's a couple or 6.

I got there a little early, so Jim and I got to talk before the mad rush. First up was Mike (Flars), he showed up and instantly the place livened up with his enthusiastic approach to life. Mike has some interesting stories of all the rallies he's been on, and he's been on a few. Here he is with Jim (Fljab) talking about bikes, what else?

So next up was Uncle Hud. He was doing a SS1K, and made it down just to say hello to the Florida boyz! He looked to be in high spirits and still had energy...at this point. I'm sure it changed later.

No SS1K would be complete without some fellow IBR members signing off as witnesses. So Tony and Jim gladly signed Hud's sheet.

Of course, no Fl. Tech Day would be complete without our local Iron Butt man himself....101stpathfinder (Tony)!

I had done an oil change while Mike and Jim were talking, and before anyone else showed up. Mike and Hud didn't have anything to do to their bikes, soooo, that just left Tony.

Tony rode his Iron Butt bike (the '05), and it needed some TLC with the rear brakes. Tony said that he rode most all of the IBR w/o rear brakes....brave man. So we looked at his pads and determined they're shot. There was one little problem, getting his caliper bolts out. One came out with some with some help, the other not so. We went with a breaker bar to get it loose, but stupid-*** me

put too much oomph into it and it broke off just past the threads. So we put our collective minds together and came up with a solution. Since there were no bolts anywhere nearby, Jim thought we could get a bolt from a hardware store and grind it down to fit, so Tony could get back home without a rear caliper hanging down. Here's Jim doing some machining on the bolt, to make it fit.

While Tony found some areas that haven't been cleaned...in a long time!

With Jim's fine work, we were able to get it back together. We all left individually, back to our homes, having worked on a couple of bikes, but more importantly...making some new friends.

Thank you Jim!
