Ok, I guess I'm the only one to take a photo here or there. So, here's a couple or 6.
I got there a little early, so Jim and I got to talk before the mad rush. First up was Mike (Flars), he showed up and instantly the place livened up with his enthusiastic approach to life. Mike has some interesting stories of all the rallies he's been on, and he's been on a few. Here he is with Jim (Fljab) talking about bikes, what else?
So next up was Uncle Hud. He was doing a SS1K, and made it down just to say hello to the Florida boyz! He looked to be in high spirits and still had energy...at this point. I'm sure it changed later.
No SS1K would be complete without some fellow IBR members signing off as witnesses. So Tony and Jim gladly signed Hud's sheet.
Of course, no Fl. Tech Day would be complete without our local Iron Butt man himself....101stpathfinder (Tony)!
I had done an oil change while Mike and Jim were talking, and before anyone else showed up. Mike and Hud didn't have anything to do to their bikes, soooo, that just left Tony.
Tony rode his Iron Butt bike (the '05), and it needed some TLC with the rear brakes. Tony said that he rode most all of the IBR w/o rear brakes....brave man. So we looked at his pads and determined they're shot. There was one little problem, getting his caliper bolts out. One came out with some with some help, the other not so. We went with a breaker bar to get it loose, but stupid-*** me
put too much oomph into it and it broke off just past the threads. So we put our collective minds together and came up with a solution. Since there were no bolts anywhere nearby, Jim thought we could get a bolt from a hardware store and grind it down to fit, so Tony could get back home without a rear caliper hanging down. Here's Jim doing some machining on the bolt, to make it fit.
While Tony found some areas that haven't been cleaned...in a long time!
With Jim's fine work, we were able to get it back together. We all left individually, back to our homes, having worked on a couple of bikes, but more importantly...making some new friends.
Thank you Jim!
