Looks like, after washing myself out of the IBR, I'll be able to make this ride after all, hurray for me!! :clapping:

Not sure if I'm bringing the fat trailie with limited supplies, or trailering in the dirt bike and bring more supplies (ice chests etc) ....we'll see as this shin-dig gets closer Also not sure yet if I'll head out Friday or early saturday.
Definates for me and perhaps those with an attitude for redneck fun and true gold country nostalgia ...... A ride into Graniteville is likey a good call for some redneck fun.

A real treat and a must for me will be a ride into Alleghany(clicky) ...and they even have a tavern (Casey's Place-clicky) for a (root?)beer or your choice of beverage. However, I'm not sure it is still open. the only other open business it the postoffice ....this town is a real time-warp -not much there other than the museum(clicky), never been through the museum as the tavern seems to be the same exceept the the people are alive, they just seem likey they're 150 years old. The fascinating sixteen to one mine(clicky) is still going and quite a piece of active nostalgia
I'll probably head out Friday afternoon/night hauling in the truck. Anything specific anyone needs?

Graniteville was undergoing hellacious water line or sewage line construction a couple months ago, very, very dusty. Casey's Place in Alleghany is definitely open, the food is great, large portions and the ambiance can't be beat. Arrive too early and you may have to wait for the grill to heat up. I think I have pictures at Gallery3. Look for the Big Butt ride.

LOL Hey DOUG!GREAT you're coming down and great ride report in July ...and those pictures are the best!! I was a tad bit worried about Casey's as I haven't been there since last fall ...but it looks like it's doing better than ever ...even banners promoting live music with the dates we'll be there(?(??). (things that make you go hmmmm....)

Which way will you be coming down? if you come the fun way through Gerlach/reno .....please let me know.

And yes, your dust comments ....I think we can expect a lot of dry ...unlike your IBR.

cheers ..renojohn

GOT GAS ????
Could be a problem in the boonies where there's not a gas station on every corner, or even any corners, so here's the deal. I'll be heading to Meadow Lake on Friday the 14th and I'll have at least 10 gallons of premium gas with me in jugs. I'm looking to trade tank top offs with somebody that's going to be starting out at the staging area on Bowman Lake Rd off of Hwy 20 on Saturday morning. I'll be coming from Meadow and will need to top off at the staging area and you can top off at Meadow, a classic quid pro quo kind of thing.

Any takers?

PM if interested.

Looks like we may be part of the same contingent, henchman. I'll be in on the 14th with my 6.1 gal KLR tank down a gallon and a half and probably 5 gals in containers in the back of Judy's truck with all the camping gear, water, etc. Looks like we'll be riding out to the meeting place Saturday morning about the same time, but I'll be on the heavy and tall dual sport while you set a more torrid pace on a motocross bike.

On another supply issue: I'm planning on bringing a roll up hanging shower enclosure. So, anyone having a sun shower can fill it with lake water in the am, set it in the sun during the day, and use the shower stall to enjoy a warm shower in the late afternoon before getting to partaying activities like alcohol consumption and whatever else may be on your agenda.

Not sure one can bring too much water or ethanol to camp.

I'm still trying to figure out the plan but I may have you both covered. Rich, you burn regular in that KLR Valdez? I'm coming up with Christy and Sherri in the p/u with my bike Sat morning. I will have 5 gal of prem and can probably bring another 4 gal of reg. I plan on off-loading there and let the bosses take the truck in from 89.

Right on! Could be a plan coming together :good:

Late edit: The more gas we have on both ends of the trail the better it will be for everybody

My XR will be full and I'll be bringing at least 5 gallons of Oregon premium if not 10 gallons. Tank on the XR is over 4 gallons and in riding this area earlier this year never ran dry. There is gas in Downieville and a helluva good road for climbing outta town.

We've used a KLR before as the mother ship to fill smaller tanks enroute.

dougc

PS. John, I'll be coming down the quick way via I-5

I have just over 3 gallons on my WR and less on my KLX and if I thought I could stick to touring on the roads I'm sure it would be enough but it's those 1st & 2nd gear wide open throttle runs on those vertical trails that I can't seem to stay away from that eat up all my gas. Typically I can get about 4 hours of hard riding (including breaks) out of a tank of gas and by then I'm done anyway but I figure why risk it and besides, having plenty-o-gas in my tank gives me a warm fuzzy in the boonies. :good:

This just in: My brother is flying out on the 27th for a M.C. trip to Yosemite. I can't take a lot of weekends off. So thank you all--and especially Evil--for encouragement and support and offer of equipment and comfortable trailers, etc. But I'm afraid I have to say no this time. I'm sorry to miss this opportunity to hang with my buds, current and new.
