I think I am going to make the long haul out from Colorado for this. Convincing a co-worker to go with me, the bug is set and I'm pretty sure he is in. Will know forsure early next week, but as of right now it looks like a go! We'll be on dual sports! Can't wait to meet everyone and more importantly ride in Death Valley!

Hot damn this thing is getting big! Guys coming from out of state and multiple states... whoda thunk?

Keep in mind this is a BYOB DIY gathering boys and girls. Yours truly won't be making any speeches or handing out swag. What we will have though is a whole bunch of good folks with a bunch of our favorite toys having a bunch of fun in the desert! :yahoo:

Sounds good to me Uber!

I do have a question about the area, I have a DRZ400S, will the stock gearing be good for the roads out there or should I put on my singletrack gearing? Also, I have the Clarke 3.9 gallon tank, will that be sufficient or should I strap another gallon on the rear rack?

Also, anyone know if the rooms are filling up? I'm a stingy bastard so I'll be getting the highway side rooms, just curious if I wait till next week if they will still be available.

I've got the IMS 4 gallon on my DRZ and I can get over 200 miles on that tank. I dont think you will need extra gas but you never know. My wife only has a 3 gallon tank on the KLX so I will probably have an extra gallon strapped on my bike for her.

As for gearing the stock set up should be fine. I did drop my front sprocket down one tooth to a 14T. I dont really use it on the street so I dont care about top speed.

My limited experience was all tall gearing for Death Valley. No technical single-track unless you go hunting for it out of the park. You can find little places to get frisky in the park but the stock stuff is fine. Gear too low and you'll be wound-out on the long paved stretches. I think a few of us are running 4-5 gal tanks and can act as fuelers but we won't pass gas and not stop.

Probably want to call the hotel on the rooms. You can always make a reservation on your card now and cancel if something changes.

There really will not be any group faster than another. The time at stops is what really effects the ride time. Personally I like to scoot right along but break long enough to snack and get some candid photos of the group during stops. Going too slow wears me out but we always stop at a turn and wait for the following rider. The guy laying in the road bleeding will appreciate your prompt return ;) . That and ride your own ride are the only preaching you are going to hear from me. we can all fall into ride groups with Don and I or ride with whoever you are comfortable with. I'm sure my daughter Erin will want to ride with me and she is not terribly fast and tips over a lot  . Freaky-fast riders may want to start another group and run rabbit for the rest of us.

When I made my reservation yesterday all the lakeside double rooms are gone, only king and suite rooms left. She didn't say how many road-facing rooms there were. As UberKul said, make your reservation, you can always cancel it.

If my sweetie was attending with me I'd spring for suite  I'd do a King room but I told a buddy about it and said we could share a room.

Can I come??

I had to hear about this from a few states away.... Jeezers.

Been to a few of the FODS gigs and they're the best. Uberkul hands out the best swag.

Been to Beemerdon's Longstreet station gig the last two years and it's the best.

Last year me and some Canadian chick went on an indian killing spree after this event, totally nuts.

My Last Year Report HERE

Is this a combination of the two events? Sorry if asking D U M (dumb) questions.

Hell Yes, RJ! Someone has to keep "The Brit" under control, it might as well be you Hombre!

looks to be a great place to explore and definitely prime DRZ400 territory.
I've done a lot of dirt riding in DV on Street bikes (FJR), fat trailies (V-Stroms) and dual sport(DRZ400). I don't think the fun of a DRZ400 can be beat in Death Valley. Here are some pictures of mine -I was with two other DRZ's ..actually mine is a KLX but that equals a DRZ400E ....race tech suspension, Kehin carb, yada yada yada ....

etc etc etc ....all NEVADA

why is this posted in the phaggy Kawlifornia section of the forum?? Where's the iron boot of the admin's when you need them?? Jeezers. Things seem to be getting pretty lax around here.

Other bike and Southwest.

Digg'in that bike John.

I think Don's doing FODS next year in Utah.

FODS is casual, under the radar, just the way we like it.

Herr Brad, Just how many true off road riders do we have going out onto the dirt at this point in time? If we have reached the twenties, I am going to make the Command Decision that I will ride Sweep Pickup in our Jeep Liberty Diesel SUV as the Designated Rescue Vehicle.

I'll outfit my Jeep with two air compressors, tool box, two medical kits, racks of Arrowhead water bottles, spare tubes (riders will provide me with), two quarts of oil and two one gallon jugs of gasoline. One half of my Jeep's back area can be laid down to carry a downed rider.

Attention FODS V / Death Valley Daze 2012 Dirt Donks! If you are joining the designated offroad rides, you must sound off and let UberKul and Papa Chuy know ASAP.

We must maintain an accurate listing. If you can no longer join up, please also let us know. I now see 20+ riders, I'll set up my Jeep as Official Sweep / Rescue Vehicle.

WTF? A rescue vehicle! I thought this was a "you crash and we split your gear" kind of ride?
