Last time I looked RJ DV was in California.........

Besides last time we talked you left me stranded at a bar in Las vegas....payback is a *****.

I was planning on carrying all that on my bike! Ok, maybe not to that extent, but atleast 2 tubes, air source, tool kit, first aid kit and probably a gallon of water and 2 msr fuel bottles.

Definitely a lot of concern for not riding over your head in this thread, what is the major concern? The terrain doesn't seem too technically challenging, is the concern someone will get out there and think they are Johnny Campbell blasting across the desert at triple digit speeds? I'm not down playing that safety is not important or a concern, but I would assume the terrain isn't wicked single track hanging off a cliffside in Colorado or Utah where if you mess up it is a nice 500 ft plummet to your death. I would think it would go without saying that everyone attending this ride knows their experience and risk comfort level and will ride accordingly.

https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=142227&st=0&p=916294&hl=+death%20+valley&fromsearch=1entry916294 Unfortunately SaharaJp99, both FJR Forum and AZ Beemers sadly have a track record of offroad crashes in Death Valley! Pictures and words from our Doug - Bugnatr.

FJR Forum Bugnatr - Doug is a very and careful conscientious off road ride leader; I am exactly the same way! However, I have been riding Death Valley off road for many years with AZ Beemers and for some unknown reasons we always have a man go down in a crash. None as severe as poor Steve photographed below, Steve sustained 13 broken ribs; he was really busted up very badly!

A number of years ago AZ Beemers contracted Pancho Villa Moto Tours, now Moto-Discovery, for an off road expedition to Real de Catorce in South Central Mexico. It was a dozen riders, half from AZB and half from people who heard about the trek and joined up.

Sure enough, we had a rider (not an AZB!) go down at speed and was severely injured. Without the Support Truck he could have died. This near death encounter still weighs on my mind! Call me your "Irish Mother" if you want, but if I'm involved in leading a ride: I'm always going to be looking out for the "last man"! I once was an Army Platoon Sergeant and cannot break my old GI habits!

"It was about then that Steve decided we didn't have enough drama in our lives and spiced it up a bit.

No way to end a ride.

OK this is bad- real bad. We are 25 miles from pavement but to my amazement we had cell signal at this remote location. I would have never believed it as there is no where else in the park where cell phones work. Our guys had already called for help and we were told an ambulance was on the way.

We kept Steve alert while waiting, at this point Rob and Rich left for Beatty to get 4 wheels to haul out Steve's KTM.

Soon we hear this beauty coming over the Mts. from the east. I don't think I've ever heard a better sound. We found out later Steve had 13 broken ribs and a punctured lung. I'm sure a ride out of 25 miles with a major washboard road would have caused more damage to to Steve's broken body.

The KTM gets a ride out from nicest park employee you could ever meet."

Yikes! You guys have some bad juju in your group! Maybe I should sit this one out! Nah, don't think that will happen. I see where your concerns come from though with a track record like that. Hopefully we can cure that this year! And I hear you about no one gets left behind. That's how I ride too. I was just curious as I have been on a lot of group rides and I have never seen precautions thrown out like this unless it was a very very advanced ride.

I truly don't know what it is about Death Valley and moto crashing, SaharaJp99; I honest to God can't fathom it, these have been some great off road riders involved. jes' sayin' and nuff' said! With a four leafed clover in my pocket!

You are indeed correct, this is NOT a very advanced ride. But there is something in the air of Death Valley that brings out crashing, I just want to be prepared for the worst and pleasantly surprised with absolutely no excitement!

Attention FODS V / Death Valley Daze 2012 Dirt Donks! If you are joining the designated offroad rides, you must sound off and let UberKul and Papa Chuy know ASAP.

We must maintain an accurate listing. If you can no longer join up, please also let us know. I now see 20+ riders, I'll set up my Jeep as Official Sweep / Rescue Vehicle.
Ynotride and his wife will be dual sporting. I also have a F250 and 6x12 enclosed trailer we can use as a rescue vehicle if needed. I carry spare tubes, tools, tire pump and extra gas with me on the bike. If you need anyone to lead a 3rd or 4th group let me know.

Man I am so bummed I can't make this trip but the ******** I work for says no way in March. Some days being the boss really sucks. :angry2: However IF we get a week of rain up here during FODS I will be there for sure.

I'm sure you folks will have a blast.

FYI- I heard Steve's copter ride cost $46,000

Last time I looked, Beatty and LongStreet Station were in Nevada, -we won't be turning those over to you phags in Kawlifornia anytime soon. BTW, I'll be there this Tuesday and then again over this weekend for another moto-bike event (White Stag. If you guys need anything scoped out please let me know.

Richard (or as we say here in NV: ****)

I didn't leave you in that bar --in fact I'm still in that bar waiting for you. I've gained over year in age and have seen a lot of cocktail waitresses come and go. Let me know when you're coming back from the restroom and I'll order you a fresh drink. Your current one has mold on it.

I just made my Longstreet hotel reservations for Friday and Saturday nights. Got a suite and will likely bring some booze and guns.

**HOWEVER**, I'm tying this in with a trip to LV and may not be on moto-bike (ya, that sucks) but there are two of ya I'd like to see (Don and Brad) so I really want to partake.

****: I will be in LV the week following this gig -so if you want to see if you can hang this time --the offer continues to be open.

I need to find those pictures of the last two years at Longstreet with Beemerdon and company. Now with FODS this gig should really be rockin'

Is that foreign chick that helped me kill Indians coming this year? That girl was cool.

I love oceans and mountains and deserts, but for some reason, Death Valley is one of my favorite places. Maybe it just seems more timeless and the colors change from sunrise to sunset. Recently,I spent five days motorcycling on and off roads. Some sights I hadn't seen before and some were old favorites.

My journey can be seen here: https://littlebobandfriends.com/
"Back Road Bob, I love your Website, your Photographs and your Ride Reports. An outstanding body of work! Next year in 2013, the www.fjrforum.com Dual Sport Group wants to ride Moab. Hope you can attend!"

Hey FJR Forum FODS Friends, please check out the brand new website from my off road riding Buddy Robert Little. Back Road Bob is the Gentleman from AZ Beemers who I am hoping and praying will sign on as my Co-Ride Leader for FODS VI in 2013, also known as "Daze of Moab", up in Southern Utah next Springtime (maybe April).

Go to Journeys first and then click on Death Valley 2012, then click on Moab 2011; hell's bell's, click on all of Little Bob's rides: Because they're dirt riding Heaven!
