Exciting isn't it, fjrrider! We are getting closer, My Friend!

Got mine too. I also sent my check into them earlier today. I guess I'm really going even I can't ride that damn monster they call a KTM ADV. :dntknw:

Now that we have our specific overnight hotels identified, I have loaded all of the data into my GPS. That would be my Copper Canyon map, yellow highlighted with the following route:

El Paso

Basaseachi

Urique

Huites

Camahuiroa

Alamos

Chinipas

Uruachi

Basaseachi

El Paso

I have also packed spare supplies for my GPS: Another yellow highlighter and another #2 pencil, with an eraser!

I haven't even opened the attachments in the email sent by MotoDiscovery yet. I was busy in the hot tub with MEM, a bevy of young Canadian college girls, Fairlaner in a wig and my beautiful wife Kat. There were other miscreants around as well. Soon as I get sobered up I'll check out the routes.

Don,

Since I still haven't heard back from MotorDiscovery maybe you can answer this:

Filling out the paperwork (that we send back to Motordiscover to make sure the border crossing goes smooth) it states that name on the Driver's license and bike title must match. My driver's license and bike title do match with the first name listed as "Chris". However my passport has my full first name down as "Christopher". Do you think this will be a problem getting through the border? It would be an absolute nightmare to try to get all this info changed before the trip. By the way, why is it so damn strick to GET into Mexico from the US anyway :dribble: ???

As for the Mexico Auto Insurance, how soon before trip can I get it? Will it be a problem to do it a few weeks before leaving?

1) My titles and my drivers licenses match exactly, because I know the Mexican Authorities are sticklers about it. Talk to Skip and Nancy about this. You may need a notarized document from your State explaining this. I can also check at the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix when I get back from Taos.

2) I see no problem getting your Mexico Auto Insurance early. But, why would you want to pay for the extra days? They charge you by each day.

3) YOU have seen photos of Bustanut joker, Fairlaner and RadioHowie and you are wondering why they prohibit ugly gringos from entering Mexico?

As you know "Christopher" in Spanish means "one perverted by weak mind" Just "Chris" is short for "I'm just a pervert" So its a 50/50 chance that those lonly border guards will not like you or they will really really take a fancy to ya!

With that bald head and all I'm thinking you better get that fixed!

Just trying to help.

I rode up to the GA mountain last Sunday and for first time wore off road gear. What a difference!! B) The off road helmet was rough on the highway when the wind got underneath sun flap at 70 mph , but other than that I was totally comfortable riding all day long. The biggest thing is that with this gear I could actually squeeze the tank with my legs when standing on the pegs. For once I didn't feel like a see-saw riding down the trail. :hyper: I didn't realize how much I wasn't doing this until now and what a difference in control! I normally wear the Cycle Port over pants which makes it nearly impossible to squeeze the tank because of the big zippers and flaps that are located on the inside of the legs that just plain get in the way.

Anyway here's my noobie questions for all u dirt riding experts... Since my Cycle Port pants aren't going to work handling this big KTM beast off road, what should I bring instead? So far I do have all the needed off road pads for protection, but only have one offroad pant and a jersey. Should I have at least 2 of each? Should I still bring some sort of jacket or just go with a pull over wind breaker instead? What are you all bringing? Are you wearing a street helmet or offroad helmet? :dntknw:

I'm getting excited, the trip is almost here!! :drinks:

Oh and Scott this is for u :finger: :)

Why thats the cutest little yellow M&M I've ever seen!

Here's my 2 cents on your question: Riding Gear - Until it gets down to the low 50's and below, my riding gear is the same whether its 55 or 95. Thats in the dirt, on the street its different. 70 degrees or so can get chilly at 70 MPH on the street.

Usually (I hope its this way on our Mexico trip) dirt riding is alot more physical, so the fire burns a little hotter. Definitely an off road helmet!

I will bring 2 complete sets of riding gear. 1 Enduro Jacket and 1 long sleeve undershirt I will carry in my pack while we ride.

I hope to be able to wash out 1 set of gear and wear the other and vice versa.

I will only bring 1 pair of underwear, wear them for a week, flip um inside out (chilly streak to the outside) wear um for another week. Just in case you wanted to know about that!

I am bringing 2 pair off road pants and 4 or 5 jerseys.

Also bring a compression jersey. It has a kidney belt built in.

And a light weight off road jacket.

Hope this will work.

Joe

Thanks guys for the input!

Scott as for underwear.... Who needs to wear it anyway!! As they say, you ain't riding until hear the balls a flapping!! :clapping:

Wow this is post # 666

For me its my Klim Adventure Jacket since it has the built-in padding, hydration system and lots of venting along with my Klim Dakar pants. I'll bring about 4 jerseys and about 4 pairs of compression shorts. I find that after about 2 or three days the shorts will get up and walk away on their own if I don't wash them out.

If you don't have one make very sure you get a Camelbak or something similar for hydration. It should be the first thing you pack.

Wow you have the KLIM Adv jacket!! I have heard a lot about it and I'm interested in seeing it.

What I have come up with is 3 jerseys and two pairs of KLIM pants (one is Dakar, other is a Chinook) which both have venting. I'm still debating on just wearing my MotorPort Mesh jacket (which has built in padding)and not bringing the pressure jacket.

I'm set with the Camelbak.

As for helmets.... I just can't seem to get comfortable with my off road helmet. First, with the goggles on I feel like I'm losing a lot of my peripheral vision. Second, with the sun visor it's PIA doing any speeds over 40 Mph. However, the off road helmet is much cooler to ride with (temp wise that is ;) ). These issues may be because this helmet was a cheap one that I purchase a while back for when I owned ATVs.

You do lose some peripheral vision with goggles, you also lose some just putting a helmet on, road or dirt. Dont know about all helmets, but most have adjustmwnts in the visor, I pull mine down when on the road or going at faster speeds. I know what you mean, at speed if you let the wind get under the visor, it will sure jerk your head around!
