Wish I could hand deliver it to you. Heal fast Carl, cause I predict a very large group ride coming your way in your honor. You're both in our prayers.
Thanks for the update Dave. +1 and double gunny on all the comments and best wishes. This is indeed a great place we have here. The forum never ceases to impress me with its generosity. The Carl fund is approaching $1400, with people all over chipping in whatever they can.
At WO tonight, Old Michael donated a stock Gen II shock, which will go on the classifieds as soon as possible.
If you are able to and you want to, please contribute any amount, as it adds up quick.
Great comments Dave, and many thanks to you and George for setting up a fund for Carl. I also met Carl and Jonnie at the March tech meet in Aurburn and was greatly impressed with how friendly and enthusiastic they were about motorcycling and it was painful to read about Carl's accident and the long recovery period...not to mention the financial disaster they are facing.I met Carl last year when he and Joanie rode up from Portland to Seattle area for our tech meet. Carl had bought his FJR wrecked, but determined to slowly build it back up. Boy didn't even have a windshield the first time he rode up, but everyone took a shine to him. He is the kind of guy too genuine and determined to let his ego get in the way, the type of guy who would show up to help you work on your bike with only a phone call. Frankly, a lot more selfless than I was at his age.
Right now, he's kind of doped up, with a busted leg and fractured pelvis, and months of rehab in front of him, with his FJR likely not in much better shape. So, WFO riders: ride 75 instead of 85mph on the way up and back this weekend, and take the $$ you would have paid in speeding fines and make a contribution to help Carl get through this. Weekend riders: pack a sandwich and drink and take the bucks you would have dropped on lunch and a beer and send them Carl's way. And you guys over 40? Its time to make a deposit into your instant karma account, for the times you made it without crashing and when a crash would have meant tough medical and financial hardship. If you don't have the spare cash, consider parting with some FJR goodies nesting in your garage and able to find a willing buyer on the forum.
Hey! Good to hear from you!Well just now I got done talking to a a staff of surgens that came talk to me and the older one asked if the bike was badly totaled. I told him it was and her said good! I told him not good, but if it was beyond repair that I would do everything in my power to get another, like it or not! He said do you realize that %40 of wrecks are not the riders faults?? I said do you realize that when you ride, you have to know that everyone out there is out to kill you, and that I would have been in a wreck at the same time and same place if I would have been driving the cager.
Jonnie brought in our laptop so I can write to you guys. I won't write much because of all the drugs :yahoo:
I have the next surgery tomorrow to remove a couple small chunks. but other then that I have been moving and walking alot more. Ouch
I really can't say it enough. but you guys mean the word to me. Thank you
Carl
I'd ask him where he got that number from, and if it was still warm...If I believed I had a 40% chance of being taken out at any time, I'd think I had a death wish. Good on ya to plan to get back on! With age and wrecks comes wisdom and improvement.Well just now I got done talking to a a staff of surgens that came talk to me and the older one asked if the bike was badly totaled.
