Wish I could hand deliver it to you. Heal fast Carl, cause I predict a very large group ride coming your way in your honor. You're both in our prayers.

The forum never ceases to impress me with its generosity. The Carl fund is approaching $1400, with people all over chipping in whatever they can.

At WFO tonight, FastJoyRide donated a stock Gen II shock, which will go on the classifieds as soon as possible.

If you are able to and you want to, please contribute any amount, as it adds up quick.

Thanks for the update Dave. +1 and double gunny on all the comments and best wishes. This is indeed a great place we have here.

As a recent "crash out" victim myself I feel very fortunate that I was able to limp home with a few stitches and a purple foot.

I met Carl last year when he and Joanie rode up from Portland to Seattle area for our tech meet. Carl had bought his FJR wrecked, but determined to slowly build it back up. Boy didn't even have a windshield the first time he rode up, but everyone took a shine to him. He is the kind of guy too genuine and determined to let his ego get in the way, the type of guy who would show up to help you work on your bike with only a phone call. Frankly, a lot more selfless than I was at his age.
Right now, he's kind of doped up, with a busted leg and fractured pelvis, and months of rehab in front of him, with his FJR likely not in much better shape. So, WFO riders: ride 75 instead of 85mph on the way up and back this weekend, and take the $$ you would have paid in speeding fines and make a contribution to help Carl get through this. Weekend riders: pack a sandwich and drink and take the bucks you would have dropped on lunch and a beer and send them Carl's way. And you guys over 40? Its time to make a deposit into your instant karma account, for the times you made it without crashing and when a crash would have meant tough medical and financial hardship. If you don't have the spare cash, consider parting with some FJR goodies nesting in your garage and able to find a willing buyer on the forum.
Great comments Dave, and many thanks to you and George for setting up a fund for Carl. I also met Carl and Jonnie at the March tech meet in Aurburn and was greatly impressed with how friendly and enthusiastic they were about motorcycling and it was painful to read about Carl's accident and the long recovery period...not to mention the financial disaster they are facing.

I am well over 40 and I think my karma account may be running a bit low since I have already had 2 near misses with some very large deer this summer and the only thing that kept me from being in even worse shape than Carl was luck and a quarter second of time. So, I am eager to make a deposit to my karma account but even more eagar to do what I can to help Carl and Jonnie during this most difficult time.

Donation on its way!

Well just now I got done talking to a a staff of surgens that came talk to me and the older one asked if the bike was badly totaled. I told him it was and her said good! I told him not good, but if it was beyond repair that I would do everything in my power to get another, like it or not! He said do you realize that %40 of wrecks are not the riders faults?? I said do you realize that when you ride, you have to know that everyone out there is out to kill you, and that I would have been in a wreck at the same time and same place if I would have been driving the cager.

Jonnie brought in our laptop so I can write to you guys. I won't write much because of all the drugs :yahoo:

I have the next surgery tomorrow to remove a couple small chunks. but other then that I have been moving and walking alot more. Ouch

I really can't say it enough. but you guys mean the word to me. Thank you

Carl

I'd ask him where he got that number from, and if it was still warm...If I believed I had a 40% chance of being taken out at any time, I'd think I had a death wish. Good on ya to plan to get back on! With age and wrecks comes wisdom and improvement.

According to my local police department, regarding past investigations of their own motor officers, 100% of their wrecks were either their own fault or determined to have been avoidable. It might not make for fun riding, but it is possible to avoid the vast majority of collisions with other vehicles.

Sorry for the hijack/rant, donation sent....

glad to hear your starting to get up and move about carl. just don't over do it ok.

oh yeah enjoy the pharmaceuticals while you can. Hope to meet you one day.

Due to health issues, I can no longer ride for very long. Age can be a terrible thing. And obviously don't post often except if I have a problem. But I am honored to be be able to help others where I can. I've received much more from this forum despite having never met Carl.

Donation sent. God be with you. :exclamation:

Donation and prayers sent...best wishes Carl...from the buckeye state.

Received a post - WFO update from Hudson on the fund progress. You guys rock! We are at $2,000 plus a stock shock to sale on the Forum...thanks to Old Michael. We'll be sure and put a special notice on the shock and the purpose of the sale proceeds.

Keep it going folks. We've all had our close calls...you never know when it will be your time.

Thanks again for the support.

I have been out a couple of days and I just got back and checked in on the forum and all of our FJR friends that have been hurting of late. I am once again impressed with this community's ability to come together and help out their neighbors, even help from those who are on a very tight budget themselves. This is a fantastic group of people and it is moving to see people from so many places reaching out to help, regardless if they knew this family or not.

It was great to read a post Carl did on his own. It looks like another bout of surgery to clean up a few odds and ends and then hopefully full concentration on recovery.

Thanks everyone.
