After oil and filter change to the puro.......a few cases have popped up over on the Concours board where the oil red light stays on after engine start, and does not go out. Very rare occurence it seems, no engines lost over it........shut down and change filter and problem solved. This is NOT bashing the Puro, I am running a pretty blue one on my 05, and have another one in the garage for my next oil change. Murph is doing some forensics on it now, it sounds like a sticky valve or something like it...... nothing definite yet, probably just QC problem on a few filters. Just watch your light after start and make sure it is out.........no biggie.

LG,

I have been using the Purolator filters for years. THEY ARE OUTSTANDING!!! What your describing has happened to me before with some of my past Kawasaki's (ZX10R/ZX12R) only during the first initial start up after an oil change. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with Kawasaki's oil sensor and the oil filter's pressure relief valve during some initial start ups after an oil change. Nothing major to be concerned about. Shutting the bike off (allowing the pressure to bleed down) and re-starting it a couple minutes later usually clears the oil pressure light. BUT..Leaving it run and revving it would not. If not, some have unscrewed the filter and re-screwed it. This resets the oil pressure relief valve in the filter and then it is never an issue again (until the next oil change). It has been previously addressed (extensively) on some of the ZX12R boards. On my ZX10R, about every other oil change I had to do this. I, too, did not feel comfortable having my bike running with the oil light on.

Wicked Webby.....thanks for info!........if you don't mind I might stick your reply on the Connie board. In 45 years I had never heard of this, and only great things about purolator........this clears up the deal for me. Love the 14610 and matching color.......

LG,

No problem. Go ahead, use it all you want.

Glad to help,

WW

Remember -- the "oil" light on the FJR has nothing to do with any oil pressure. Some other bikes, yes, but not the Yamaha FJR.

So, if your Purolator filter was diverting any oil pressure -- the only way you'd notice it would by engine noise (knocking).
