I was wondering after the FZ1 mirror install did the mirrors stay nice and clear? After the luxury in vibe free viewing that the stock mirrors are I would hate to lose that.

Tim

Don't know personally, but the longer the stalk, the more likely resonance would reveal itself. It's not something I've heard the users complain about however. I would suggest avoiding the sushi junk on ebay though-quality is less than stellar. ;)

I have the carbon fiber "sushi junk" from Ebay on my 05. Don't have any vibration problems with them. Lot's more view behind me, I'm completely happy with them.

I've got the "sushi junk" too. And although not totally happy with them staying in position, they're liveable for now until I get the FZ1's. I don't expect any more vibes with the factory FZ1 mirrors. Buzzing isn't a problem, even on the cheapies.

Randy

The Emgo "sushi junk" was fine on mine (no vibe problem). I took mine off, back to stock, to gain some lane-splitting room though.

From my perspective as a 5'9" rider, the FJR has huge blind spots on either side with the stock mirrors. I can see directly behind me just fine but I'm afraid that I'm going to forget to do a head check before changing lanes sometime and run right into a cage.

Will the longer stem on the FZ1 mirrors allow me to adjust them to be able to see these areas?

Thanks,

Jim

In a word yes. I have also found that those little stick on round or rectangle wideangle mirrors can be positioned on the original mirror and give that bloody blind spot the boot! These little buggers do make a difference but I find the FZ1 mod is fine for me.

Cheers

I am a "wide-body". Even when controlling my eating habits, my skeletal frame is wide. I got really tired of seeing elbows and shoulders in 1/2 of my mirrors. On the '04 I bought the FZ-1 mirrors from Gary McCoy. On the '05, I have the EMGO.

I would not go back the the rear blind-spot. No cage/truck/CHP can sneak up on my "6". They don't buzz or vibrate. My right EMGO seems to not be as "positive" a lock in the extended position, but even that doesn't move about in the wind or because of engine vibration.

I let a fellow owner sit on my bike, then stood 10 ft behind him and asked if he could see me. When he responded, "Yes.", I asked him to turn around. He couldn't believe the difference. I live in CA and "lane share". I've never had a problem. If the cars are that close, I shouldn't be taking the FJR between them anyway.

I tried the "spot" mirrors on the stockers, and while they were an improvement, there is no comparison to the difference the FZ-1 mirrors have made for me.

For the Big and Tall crowd the FZ1 mirrors are great! Much improved visibility, steady as a rock and they still fold in. I've got "good as new" stock mirrors if anyone needs them. :D

I put on my FZ1 mirrors today. I have to echo the sentiments of the earlier posters. I don't notice any more vibration with these than I had on the stock mirrors. I like the look of the longer stalks and it does seem to reduce the blind spot.

Pullng the dash panels was a real joy as usual although I found the fuse box this time. :)

Finally a plug for Gary McCoy at University Motors. He gave me a good price, delivered on time and even threw a couple of goodies into the box. When Givi trunk time rolls around, I'll definitely be calling Gary.

Cheers,

Jim

The only weak spot on the Emgos is the joint that allows you to fold them.

If any of you has not installed them yet, take a few minutes to disassemble them and check out that joint. It's pretty flimsy and the material is the cheapest you can imagine this side of a Yugo B)

That said, I fixed the one that broke with a through bolt and I'm a happy camper. No vibes to speak of.

I put my new Genuine Yamaha FZ1 mirrors on yesterday. It took a total of 20min. That includes getting out the tools, a folding table and trying to find my chew. I did find that the right hand side mirror bolts were loose. I used my fingers to take the nuts off. The replacements got a squirt of blue locktite. As for the utility of the mirrors.. "a significant improvement over stock". Good Riding to ya.

Can anybody tell me if these are the right part numbers for the FZ1 mirrors?

5LV-26280-00-00 (LEFT)

5LV-26290-00-00 (RIGHT)

Thanks

Yep

5LV-26280-00-00 REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSY (LEFT)

5LV-26290-00-00 REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSY (RIGHT)

Stef

Thanks Stef for confirming.

I just called University Motors and ordered a pair. Can't wait to see the improved rear view.
