Would that prevent the sprained elbow???
Yes because the instant the WD hits the glue it dissolves it. The grip should have slipped right off if you used WD.
Just out of curiousity has anyone used golf grip tape to reinstall their grips? I have on my VTX with kuryakyn grips and it has worked great. It's held for four years.
I am still procrasinating my install. Per johnny80s write up, I plan to use the WD40 method and was planning to buy some Yamabond. I kept wondering about golf grip tape since I have done some regripping. I would be concerned about the solvents that you put on the tape to allow it to slide. Is the solvent compatible with the grip and anything else it is apt to drip on?
When I put my grips on the VTX with golf tape I just used rubbing alcohol as the activator. I wouldn't think that would cause any damage to the grips

Just Ordered My G2 today and now you have me looking at the throttle lock. I knew this forum would be hard on my Credit Card.

Thanks For The Info!

Holy carp! That stock grip is a PITA to get off! 100 psi air... nothing. Small screw driver... extremely difficult to work under. WD40... doin' nothing for for me that I've noticed. I'm thinking that the well below freezing temps may be a major source of my grief.

Has anybody done a comprehensive install procedure for this (w/ heated grips) that I haven't been able to find?

Just cut it then peel it off.

Gee... thanks Johnny! <_< (Mental note... don't ask Johnny80s for help! :p )

It's amazing what 60 seconds in a glass of very hot water will do! :yahoo:

Air easily broke the bond between the grip and the tube but still needed a little WD40 to let me slip it off.

Now hope I can get the alignment right on install...

Yea it can be a bear and yes the cold temp doesn't help things out either. But doing this and all the maint. yourself is better than paying someone you don't know or trust to do it and now you have money in your wallet for the time being and peace of mind knowing what and how it was done. ;) Farkle away my friend.....Painman. <>< B)

Added both the G2 and the Madco throttle lock this evening. As others have said, I had to pry open the throttle lock to fit over the hashed aluminum on the G2. There's a smooth section where it eventually rests though, and moves freely.

It all works great!

I haven't found something similar on the forum, so I hope this is the right place to place the question:

Has anyone tried modifying the OEM throttle tube by grinding and changing the cable angle in a similar way to the G2 throttle tube? I was thinking to try first to modify the OEM tube and order later the G2 in case the 'home-made' tube is not satisfactory... (for me it is a little more difficult to order the G2 with delivery in Europe and if I replace the OEM tube I have also to cut and replace the after-market heated grip which was permanently glued after repeated rolling on the tube  ).

So, if anyone has tried modifying the OEM tube I'm anxious to find out opinions about the final result

100% satisfied. The G2 Ergo tube and cam is a great product, great quality, excellent design (I own several). But I've specifically modified the OEM throttle tubes for people using heated grips with great success. A Dremel tool and a couple hours of patience will get the job done nicely.

Hint... Use a flat-edged needle file to re-create the cable groove down the curvature of the new cam shape. You will notice that the one cable tends to stay "jacked away from" the seated position and needs a little bit of extra groove to make it rest flat and comfortably against the cam surface.

Has anyone done this mod on a 2006AE?

I just went to their website and they don't have one listed for the '06AE

Might just have to buy a new bike.

I have an 06AE and I am using the G2 Cam. Love it!!! You need to get one, you won't be sorry. I don't recall what model I got. Probably one that says for a Gen II FJR. I have factory heated grips and it went on no issues!

OK, I went in the garage and found the package it came in. I used the 40-400L part number. It says to use that on an AE.

Thanks a lot for confirmation, that's great news!

Since for next weekend the weather forecast around here is not very encouraging for a ride, I'll start working on 'tamering' the OEM throttle tube

I'm sure either approach has similar results. For me though, 10 minutes of install vs 2 hours of filing?

Don,

The reason I modify OEM tubes for some people, is to avoid the heat dissipation caused by the aluminum G2 Ergo tube, versus the Delrin OEM tube.

G2 Ergo is currently working on a 100% Delrin version of their product just for this reason. I'm hoping to have one to test within a few weeks.

In the meantime, filing/grinding the OEM tube is time pretty well-spent for someone running heated grips. Otherwise I totally agree, pay a few bucks and get an awesome product. Spend the extra time riding!!!

:)

Can anyone tell me if it is still worthwhile to get the G2 throttle tube after installing a PCIII and doing the standard spring unwind? The difference was so significant after installing the PCIII, I wasn't sure if installing the G2 tube would still be noticeable or really beneficial... I don't mind spending money on upgrades as long as I feel confident about the results... Can anyone offer up what the difference in feeling was when used in combination with a PCIII and throttle unwind? Thanks in advance so I can determine what would be best....

Hi from an expat Brit living the life. This post could be just what I'm looking for. My newly acquired '07 8800 mile AE seems to be very 'on' or 'off' revs at just above tickover and hard to control when moving slowly. It sounds a little to me like the throttles could need balancing as the motor doesn't seem to pick up cleanly but the dealer I bought from says 'add this bottle to the gas tank and go for a long run'.

I've not owned a bike for years so am unfamiliar with modern bike technology but know it doesn't feel right.I know what the dealer is suggesting and I don't think there is a problem with the clutch action.

I have decided that I need larger diameter grips for my long fingers to wrap around and to reduce the amount of free play in the throttle cable.

Do you think your modifications could go some way to ease my problem?

This is my first post in any forum and I appreciate any assistance. Thanks

Hi Yum,

Here's a link in my sig line that shows what both throttle tubes look like. If you are good with a dremel you can alter the stock tube but just make sure you have a back up plan in case it gets messed up.

Hi Bigbeavk.

Thanks for that info,it's a great mod, really well explained, makes sense to me and I reckon I could handle? it. Prob should also consider throttle balance jobbie.
