I wear Shure e2c's in my helmet and connect directly to the unit. I can keep the volume relatively low, and have no problems hearing what's going on at 70+ MPH.
Have you ridden with ear plugs before the Shure units?
How do they compare with reducing the wind noise?
I have been toying with the idea of custom molded ear plugs with built in audio but I am not sure if the $$ is worth it.
Yes. I've used both cheapo foam units as well as some more expensive (relatively speaking) Hear-O's.
I feel like I get more noise reduction with the Shures, but it could be my imagination. The Shure's will give 30-37db sound reduction depending upon the insert you use (they come with various sizes of 3 types - foam, soft rubber, and hard rubber). I can still hear wind, traffic, and engine, but it cuts the high frequency stuff. I have some tinnitus, so it's important for me to be able to keep the volume and damaging frequencies down if possible.
I've debated on the custom plugs as well, but at the moment, I'm happy with the Shure's.
If you're not squeamish and want to pick up a pair on the cheap, there's a set
here for $50. Just buy new foam inserts for them, cuz ya don't know where they've been.
I grabbed mine at CompUSA and got my wife a set for use with her MP3 player. She's been very happy with the sound quality - she takes public transport to work, and they help block out the riff raff on the train...
Hmmmm....
GadgetGuy mount and brackets - designed for 06 - for Garmin 2730XM
Two (2) each Skyway puck mounts - one for XM antenna, one for Escort radar.
(Please excuse the junk in my garage - been married for 27 years)
You can price the housing and brackets at SportBikeEffects - Talk to Jeff. Forum discount applies. And no, I ain't affiliated with Jeff or SBE in any way.
Sweet mount, but oh so $$$$....
SBE lists them for $390, and I assume you need a mounting bracket, etc., correct?
The cheapo Garmin one was $35, and the Touratech locking one (065-0066) is $115.70.
