Just the supplemental harness here. 2009 bought new in February 2011. 3500 miles. Mine was the first one brought into the dealership in Wichita for recall at the time.
That truely sucks. Yammi should be able to do better than that. I'd write a letter and they wouldn't like it. BillMy connector had partial melting damage. Had done a temp repair 2 years ago with no issues since then, I kick myself for taking it in right away. Now I am into week 5 waiting on a harness to arrive while my ride sits at the dealer collecting dust. Very costly wait for me since it is my everyday commuter vehicle. Dealer has contacted me every week to update me on the part status which is "no word from Yamaha on when your part will arrive". :angry2:

+1, GUNNY, WOOF and all the jazz. The harness was in perfect shape when I installed the Brodie harness, so I have zero plans on letting any of the idiots at the local dealer close to the bike. How about a third/fourth option? "Didn't do factory recall, kept Brodie/Roarrunner fix instead"
I kept my Brodie fix, didn't do the recall as I thought the Brodie harness is a lot more robust.
I'm with you. The Brodie harness is a superior solution to the problem and I'm leaving it in.+1, GUNNY, WOOF and all the jazz. He made out a work order and said he was going to contact his regional Yamaha service manager to see how he should proceed.

... they are leaving me hanging as to what the dealer is to do with the brodie harness. Still waiting.
Went to my local dealer and to my surpise they had done one already, but not the complete replacement. Explained to the service rep that I had installed a brodie harness to address the problem before I got bit. He made out a work order and said he was going to contact his regional Yamaha service manager to see how he should proceed. That was 2 weeks ago. I have checked in with him twice and he has not heard a word back yet from the regional guy so he says. If this is true I am a little pissed with Yamaha at this point. Not only are they years late with this recall in my opinion, after most owners have already remedied the issue, now they are leaving me hanging as to what the dealer is to do with the brodie harness. Still waiting.
This is exactly the kind of stuff we as a forum should keep working on, can help with, and can add positively.I'm not too happy about that and will have a discussion with the service supervisor tomorrow when he comes back.
Hope you guys saved your old spiders & caps ? This could get interesting........
I would ask that if you don't get a reasonable response from the supervisor (or in addition to)...that might be a good reason to call Cypress so they're aware of the situation. I'd go with something like, "I have bike that has had an issue many have known about for years, we did something because Yamaha was slow to respond, and now I'm pressured to put back stuff? Can't you work without the old spiders and caps or what can we do to get the bike fixed?"
Meanwhile, good point and hopefully some folks have saved them and can share if needed.
Well here's the recap of today.....
I called Cypess and spoke with the customer service rep, he wasn't too sympathetic to our plight as I explained it in detail ( I think it was a little over his head ) , so I got through to the secocnd line of Cypress to the "product specialist", explained the Brodie harness again, spoke about the fix, the spiders, etc for a while with her. The specialist wrote it all down, then put me on hold while she contacted the Yamaha employee who is involved directly in the recall with NHTSA, then got both my local Yamaha tech and manager on a three way call together and discussed the harness, connections etc. ( I was not permitted to listen in )After 20 minues it was decided the Brodie harness is NOT PERMITTED to be left in place as it was not part of the NHTSA testing and documentation procedures and MUST BE PULLED by the dealer. It cannot be left in place.
They alluded to the fact that if I wanted to reinstall it, it would not be installed by Yamaha, and they'd have no control over the installation and we'd be on our own with the results.
Luckily, I did find the spiders and caps I removed and delivered them to the tech. My harness installs tomorrow.
