Just the supplemental harness here. 2009 bought new in February 2011. 3500 miles. Mine was the first one brought into the dealership in Wichita for recall at the time.

My connector had partial melting damage. Had done a temp repair 2 years ago with no issues since then, I kick myself for taking it in right away. Now I am into week 5 waiting on a harness to arrive while my ride sits at the dealer collecting dust. Very costly wait for me since it is my everyday commuter vehicle. Dealer has contacted me every week to update me on the part status which is "no word from Yamaha on when your part will arrive". :angry2:

That truely sucks. Yammi should be able to do better than that. I'd write a letter and they wouldn't like it. Bill

Mine had the part 90891-30074-00 Sub Harness Kit (Wire Sub Lead Recall). Since mine is a "new to me" 06 I had them do the main switch recall also.

I asked them to repair the windshield track gasket under the YES warranty while they had the bike. I just noticed on the invoice "Date Promised" 7/9/2011, actual date they had it finished was 7/26/2011.

When I picked it up I asked them about the windshield gasket. The service tech told me " You do know that is a really difficult repair don't you?". Bast#$#@'s didn't even attempt to repair it!!! I was tired of missing good riding weather so I brought her home and decided to fix it over the winter (YES good til 3/2012).

This is where I'm at. After my first 'event' two weeks ago, I decided to take it in for the recall. I just got a call saying that Yamaha has back ordered the full harness with no ETA.

How about a third/fourth option? "Didn't do factory recall, kept Brodie/Roarrunner fix instead"

I kept my Brodie fix, didn't do the recall as I thought the Brodie harness is a lot more robust.
+1, GUNNY, WOOF and all the jazz. The harness was in perfect shape when I installed the Brodie harness, so I have zero plans on letting any of the idiots at the local dealer close to the bike.

I'm with you. The Brodie harness is a superior solution to the problem and I'm leaving it in.

My harness arrived last week. I will be heading to Desert Valley tomorrow morning for my install. Three weeks ago when we found my spider was already failing, I took the bike home and it has not moved since. Last night I went out to the bike to do a pre-ride inspection and lo and behold there is a pool of oil on the wheel running down the side and spreading across the tread of the tire. Right fork seal blown. Luckily Mike says he will fit that in too as I've already cancelled one trip due to having to order the harness. I THINK I'm heading to Nevada, but who knows?

I took mine in 2 weeks ago just to get the punch mark. I want to be able to say that all the recalls have been done. I now am in possession of a "slightly used" recall ground harness, it's sitting in the top of my tool box in my garage. The shop that did the work is East Bay Motorsports in Hayward Calif. The service manager, Darryl took good care of me. So far they have done 9 or 10 of these bikes.

Surprise...

No damage on my ground joint connectors (spider nests), probably because I installed that "Brodie Harness" within days of taking delivery of the bike last November.
Sure am glad I thought of it.

Just the supplemental harness here. 2006 bought used in April 2010. 40,000 miles at the time, 55,000 miles when I took it to the dealer for the recall. Mine was the first one brought into the dealership in Phoenix for recall at the time (before I received the recall letter - based on information from this Forum). 5 days to complete the fix since they did not have the harness at the time and had to order it from Yamaha.

Went to my local dealer and to my surpise they had done one already, but not the complete replacement. Explained to the service rep that I had installed a brodie harness to address the problem before I got bit. He made out a work order and said he was going to contact his regional Yamaha service manager to see how he should proceed. That was 2 weeks ago. I have checked in with him twice and he has not heard a word back yet from the regional guy so he says. If this is true I am a little pissed with Yamaha at this point. Not only are they years late with this recall in my opinion, after most owners have already remedied the issue, now they are leaving me hanging as to what the dealer is to do with the brodie harness. Still waiting.

My Grounding Harness satisfies the electrical grounding requirements in spades. It attaches to all 6 ground joints which make up the grounding buss. The problem is that Yamaha does not recognize it as taking the place of the official recall harness. There really isn't an issue here, just have the service department unplug the connector from my Grounding Harness and install the recall harness as per procedure. The disconnected lead on my Grounding Harness can just dangle without any ill effects. That is what I had my dealer serviceman do to my '06AE.

When I got back home I pulled the recall harness off the bike and restored the connection to my Grounding Harness. Yamaha is satisfied, the bike has the punch mark above the vin number, and I can safely say that the bike has had all the recalls performed up to this point. My recall harness now lives in the top of my tool box in the garage.

When it gets right down to it, having the recall work done is not mandatory - you can opt not to have it done. With my Grounding Harness in place you need not worry about a thermal runaway in any of the grounding joints.

Hope this helps.

Good luck with that, it's hit or miss if the dealer will let it stay....here's a recap as I thnk I was the first to have a sub harness installed........

I'm not too happy about that and will have a discussion with the service supervisor tomorrow when he comes back.

Hope you guys saved your old spiders & caps ? This could get interesting........
This is exactly the kind of stuff we as a forum should keep working on, can help with, and can add positively.

I would ask that if you don't get a reasonable response from the supervisor (or in addition to)...that might be a good reason to call Cypress so they're aware of the situation. I'd go with something like, "I have bike that has had an issue many have known about for years, we did something because Yamaha was slow to respond, and now I'm pressured to put back stuff? Can't you work without the old spiders and caps or what can we do to get the bike fixed?"

Meanwhile, good point and hopefully some folks have saved them and can share if needed.

Well here's the recap of today.....

I called Cypess and spoke with the customer service rep, he wasn't too sympathetic to our plight as I explained it in detail ( I think it was a little over his head ) , so I got through to the secocnd line of Cypress to the "product specialist", explained the Brodie harness again, spoke about the fix, the spiders, etc for a while with her. The specialist wrote it all down, then put me on hold while she contacted the Yamaha employee who is involved directly in the recall with NHTSA, then got both my local Yamaha tech and manager on a three way call together and discussed the harness, connections etc. ( I was not permitted to listen in )After 20 minues it was decided the Brodie harness is NOT PERMITTED to be left in place as it was not part of the NHTSA testing and documentation procedures and MUST BE PULLED by the dealer. It cannot be left in place.

They alluded to the fact that if I wanted to reinstall it, it would not be installed by Yamaha, and they'd have no control over the installation and we'd be on our own with the results.

Luckily, I did find the spiders and caps I removed and delivered them to the tech. My harness installs tomorrow.

Still waiting for a full harness, going into the 4th week I think ?

My dealer said that Brodie harness was worlds better than the yamaha fix and signed off the on the bike!
