Getting off FJR with bags on

I have two methods to mount the bike, one with the top case or pillion, the other without.

Without passenger or top case, I just stand next to bike and swing leg over. I hit the side bag a few times before I got used to it, but it's natural now. If you are shorter and can't do that from the ground, do it from the foot peg.

With a passenger or top case, I do the same thing, but I put my leg over like the seat is a hurdle. I am not a very flexible person, so sometimes my boot scuffs across the top of the seat, but it works. Again, if you are too short to do this from the ground, do it from the side peg.

O.K. How the hell do you get off this thing with the bags on without kicking them. The only wayI found is to put the kickstand down first, turn so i'm facing the bike with my right leg still on the seat, then lift my right leg (higher then it should really go) and slowly hop away from the bike.
Any suggestions..??
I do the hopitty hop....

Harley...

FJR..

and the Speedmaster when she's loaded up....

I'm too old to get a **** if it looks funny or not.

Hmmm... Now that I think of it, I havent' ridden any bikes lately that wern't loaded for at least a weekend or more...

I have no idea how I get so much stuff packed on the bike... must learn to bring less....maybe....<BG>

This is the main reason that I painted the top of my bags with black truck-bed paint.

VicaDon,

That doesn't look too bad.

I am getting better at getting on and off with the bags on.

I also got a tankslapper kit to put on the bags. That should prevent any scuffing if I do screw up.

Perhaps being 6'1" has advantages. I don't rub my foot on the bags. :) My wife has issues getting on teh rear seat with the bags on however, she is 5'5".

Any suggestions..??

+1 on the truck bed liner. It works great and if you take your time and mask it off properly the results look good. I "freeformed" the taping of the first cover then measured and matched the other side.

At the Int'l Bike Show all of the Bagger bikes have scuffed panniers. Beemer RTs and LTs, Guzzi "Norge". all had badly scuffed and scraped bag lids. One of the bikes had a gouge from someones bootlace hook.
