The Superhawk still beats the FJR for maximum traction at all lean angles (and at being able to lean it over farther, for that matter).

If that were my primary criterion, I wouldn't have bought the FJR...

(That said, part of what I'm finding appealing about the darkside is the whole better traction than a moto tire thing!)

BTW, You have my personal guaranty that Darkside works just fine on the flashiest silver quickest-of-all '03 bikes.

BTW, my brother (Motortoad here and elsewhere) has a Superhawk. A little more gas tank and that thing would be useful!

As for traction, obviously the 'hawk carries a bit less tonnage, with the same tire size as the FJR.

I'm still on page 36 (so far) but this is fascinating and I am intrigued.

Good luck finishing this never ending story, I lost my place somewhere around page 47. That's when the Dark Side FAQ was posted. My good friend Howie had just mounted his tire and his enthusiasm tipped me over the edge.

I'm tempted to run a set of PR2s and then a CT just so I have a clean comparison for how I like to ride this bike (which I'm still figuring out, I've got less than 1k on it so far -- and wow am I sad about that, I used to do that in the first week I had a bike, and it's taken me three to get this far...).

I think you have a good game plan, put fresh PR2's on both wheels. see just how wonderful your bike handles as designed. Rear tires go fast on these machines. If you ride a lot it won't take long before you are ready for a fresh rear tire. IMHO thats when you should consider yielding to the dark side. You need to have a solid basis to judge whether or not the car tire works to you. The major thing is that you enjoy yourself on your "new" bike.

Is this when I mention that my DoD number is 34 and I was around on rec.moto when the DoD came into existence? I'm not sure if I qualify as an "old coot" but I'm certainly a dino of some sort.

That said, definitely still new to the FJR, so I really appreciate all the informational resources. But I am really liking that it has pretty much everything I loved about my VF1000F and nothing that irritated me about it. I'm not even missing the V engine configuration (V-twin on the 'hawk, V4 on the VF1000F).

Here are some pics of my CT rear and my MT front. The rear has about 6k plus including WFO testing.

The front MT tire has about 2k on it including WFO testing, and the front tire was installed the day before

Welcome to the forum, and the Darkside thread. There are many pearls among the poo of the 73 pages of this thread. Bottom line, you have to decide if your riding style fits with the Darkside. Do run a set of normal moto tires, PR2s or Storm 2 Ultras and see how you wear tires and just get used to the Feej.

If you haven't caught it yet, check out the FAQ. It will answer most questions. If it doesn't, ask and I will add that to the FAQ if warranted.

DoD! I've lost track of who the KotL is any more. :rofl:

Try not to let the old farts fawning over you go to your head. They pretty much do that every time we get a new woman rider on the forum. Especially one with a little fire that gives good repartee.

Ahh, fresh members to corrupt. :grin: Why? FORTY THOUSAND MILES of tire life, that's why. Read the FAQ and you may understand more. Good time to read the other FAQ offered for new owners/new forum members too. Some great stuff in there that will save you some headaches.

Ok I'm in! I mounted the tire and will take a test ride as soon as I change my EFING stator. But here's a pic anyway. Bridgestone Potenza Grid.

Also put on a new front tire. It's just out from Bridgestone it's a Battlax 023 Sport / Touring. I'll try it and get back to you.

Did you hit the cords on that last tire on the way home? Gonna do the same on the CT?

I'm thinking hydroplaning will be a lot easier on a square tire (* when the tread is low) than it ever was on one of the traditional round 'uns.

Also curious why the BT023? Was it real cheap? Buy one CT and a dozen BattleAxes?

I rode home the other day in an absolute deluge of rain, and I had a hard time getting the rear to break loose (Michelin Exalto)......very stable!!!
