While on the road, Mrs. Hoog and I like to try the little Mom 'n Pop places for breakfast. Perkins will do in a pinch, but truckstops aren't out of the question. You never know what it'll be like, but so far we haven't been disappointed too often. Here's a couple that come to mind:
1) Theresa's in Las Vegas, New Mexico. After leaving Santa Fe and heading up through the Carson N.F., we got into L.V. about 10 am. Saw the parking lot was still pretty full (always a good sign), so we pulled in and gave it a shot. I really believe we were the only ones in the restaurant that lived more than a few miles away, definitely a locals place. Excellent food
2) The Davy Crockett Truckstop off I-81, at U.S. 11 I believe. We stopped here for breakfast on our most recent trip in Oct. The place ain't much to look at, but the food was plentiful, good and cheap. Actually, the portions were more than plentiful, they were freekin' huge!! The waitress (obviously a lifer) was a card, with a slow southern drawl. Definitely hit the spot.
So let's hear your "discoveries." Some place you happened into while touring and were pleasantly surprised.
(some of you guys do tour on your FJRs don't you?)
