While on the road, Mrs. Hoog and I like to try the little Mom 'n Pop places for breakfast. Perkins will do in a pinch, but truckstops aren't out of the question. You never know what it'll be like, but so far we haven't been disappointed too often. Here's a couple that come to mind:

1) Theresa's in Las Vegas, New Mexico. After leaving Santa Fe and heading up through the Carson N.F., we got into L.V. about 10 am. Saw the parking lot was still pretty full (always a good sign), so we pulled in and gave it a shot. I really believe we were the only ones in the restaurant that lived more than a few miles away, definitely a locals place. Excellent food

2) The Davy Crockett Truckstop off I-81, at U.S. 11 I believe. We stopped here for breakfast on our most recent trip in Oct. The place ain't much to look at, but the food was plentiful, good and cheap. Actually, the portions were more than plentiful, they were freekin' huge!! The waitress (obviously a lifer) was a card, with a slow southern drawl. Definitely hit the spot.

So let's hear your "discoveries." Some place you happened into while touring and were pleasantly surprised.

(some of you guys do tour on your FJRs don't you?)

:D :D :D

Hoog, are you in hurry to get out of fng status? Treasure it while it lasts. I cried when I lost my fng status....even asked for it back....but, alas...woe was me.

Hey Gleno,

Is your signature your typical wimmen's pickup line?

I would have to say there is a certain "eeeeeewwwhhh" factor to that line, don't you?

Well....on another forum I'm on, it says...."I eat more ***** than cervical cancer".

Thought since I'm a fng, I'd better don't here.

So, the gyno bit was it. Married guy. Not pickin' up wimmens anymore.

Okay, now I'm not a complete 'tard, and I understand acronyms as good as the next schmoe, but, I'll be dayuumed if I can figure out IIRC, and I see it everywhere here.

What dat??

Sorry for the blatant derail Hoog.....

Back on topic. My favorite eats happen right here at home. As a BBQ/Grilling freak who's about to go mobile for $$$, we prefer to tear it up here. Here's just a coupla silly snaps doin' what we do.....

Kebobs are 1) Bacon wrapped shrimp/scallops/shrooms/onion 2) Sausage/peppers/onions 3) Teriyaki chicken/peppers. And of course, the surf n turf is self 'splanatory..

I was wondering if this thread was going to get back to food.

I agree there is nothing like a home cooked meal (my thing is the hot wing), but when your 1500 miles from the house it sure is nice to find a good meal. I thought some of you would have a couple to share.....

What kind of turf is that? It looks like you cut off a mermaid's ***...

(j/k, but that is a huuuge tail.)

Not to be toooo critical brah, but, "turf" would be to imply the beef and "surf" the lobster.

Yes, indeedy, that was a huge (and deliscious) tail.

Mermaids ***??? Buwahahahahaaaaa :D :D

The fried chicken at Eichen's in Okarche, OK. It's the longest continuously-operated bar in Oklahoma. About 30 miles from OKC.

It's a seat-yourself place. Only thing on the menu is fried chicken, okra, nachos, frito pie, a BBQ sandwich, and a beef sandwich. Beer, tap or bottle, can cokes. That's it. No coffee, no tea, no desert. Best damn fried chicken I've ever had.

Well worth the stop, if you're in the area.

Soooooooooo.... Gleno, is that you in the French Maid outfit? Not tellin' us sumpin here?

Negative. I was operatin' the pic machine. That'd be the sooper snacky Mrs G. :assasin:
