Its easy just give the little woman $1000.00 to buy jewels and what ever and Santa will bring you one. Then about a month later he brings you another present that says Visa bill enclosed.(Don't wanna think about that)

Steve,

You are very welcome.

TomTom Rider is now available for order at dealer cost to FJR forum members only!

Enjoy

James,

How does the Tom Tom Rider's interface compare to my Garmin 2720? I like the 2720's intuative and user friendly features. My wife has been asking me for her own GPS for use with the minivan. I thought about giving her my 2720 and getting the Tom Tom Rider as a replacement. Would I be better off getting another 2720 instead? Thanks.

Many of our customers love the TomTom user interface because of the ease of use and speed, the Garmin is eaiser to use than the older SP26xx but it is not as easy or fast as the TomTom Rider, but understanding this, you will also lose some of the features by having this extra speed.

For your wife, give her a Garmin 2720, for your bike, you may try the TomTom Rider because it is made for a bike and does not have a speaker so you will not be able to use it in your wife's van without using the bluetooth headset.

The screen is so much brighter and nicer!

I would go to a GPS store and ask them to demostrate the TomTom Rider for you and show you the difference between the two? The reason I would consider the TomTom Rider is that they are currently using the NavTeq mapping software which is consistant with Garmin and Magellan, a much better map set.

TomTom even goes as fas as allowing you to switch the control on the display from right hand to left hand so you can control the throttle while inputting the GPS although I do not recommend doing this at any time.

The reason for the high cost is the extra accessories that comes with the unit like the bluetooth, the motorcycle mounting brackets, the headset and helmet speaker, the pouch. They have included just about everything you need for this unit wich is nice.

Ask the dealer that you purchase your Garmin 2720 from to help you out with comparing the two products, you have been their customer already and they should be willing to help you out. ;)

Good luck.

James, Just a quick note to thank Rick for all of his help. I have a Quest II on the way and I truly appreciate the help Rick provided and his patience with me.

GPSDISCOUNT.COM-------go there!
Well I doubt I would have saved much (if any) $ there and I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten anywhere near the service (Including my E-Mails with about 20 questions about GPS's, software and differences between GPS's) that I got from James and his shop!

So next time I am looking for a GPS I'll call James!

And most importantly, thanks for taking care of us, James.

Hey you guys ROCK!

I am happy to be able to provide a service to this community!

I have the demo units at our store should you wish to look at one or use it hands on. Call and stop by one of my stores and I will be happy to let you guys see what each system can do.

The TomTom Rider is neat but a bit expensive. I have it working for those that wish to see how it is different then any other units.

Looking for GPS Beta testers that own a 2005/2006 Ford F150 only.

I have received some of your email being interested in being a Magellan beta tester, and I have add the interested party names no the list of needed 2005/2006 beta tester.

Being a Magellan Beta tester will require you to show documentation of proof of ownership of your 2005/2006 Ford F150 PU, taking pictures of installation of the new Beta unit that is design specifically to be installed in a 2005/2006 Ford F150 and to also follow up with weekly beta test findings.

Are you ready to commit to this type of requirements?

Send me an email

James

Greg, Let me see if I can let you use mine, I order one for me to test, but when it comes in, I will just have to ship it to you first.

When do you need it by?

James ;)

Questions for 04FJR4ME.....

I was thinking about getting a PDA, as it looks I might need it for work...

Have you tried GPS software or seen any of those used for the PDA..?

I was looking at getting a Asus MyPal A636

They have had some great reviews, and the latest SIRF StarIII GPS Chips

built right in the device.... :) and has Windows Mobile 5.0

Seeing as these have no HD's I think it would work rather well for the bike, and if it were to rain, Im not all that worried, as I can put it in my pocket...

It runs well on batteries, and has built in MP3 Player... but I can also hook up to Car Charger 12v...

Give me your thoughts... and what you think about Different Software, I have been looking at different titles, but wanted to ask you your thoughts...

thanks

Again.......

Thanks James!

Greg

Any pics or report on your new Garmin 2730 unit? ;)

I only use a PDA GPS nav as a back up since I think the PDA is really not design to be used as a GPS, the display is not as bright and most of all, there could be conflict and lock up issues. the speaker is weak and it just goes on and on. So I guess if you ask me what I think of PDA as your primary GPS system, I would say no, but that's just me, there are lost of customers of ours that loves the PDA as a GPS.

Have you tried GPS software or seen any of those used for the PDA..?
Tried some in the past, destinator software etc, again, not very impressed but that just me.

Good luck, don't know much about Asus MyPal, sorry.

I have done some extensive testing with the SiRF III against Centrality receiver along with Garmin and Magellan receivers, the SiRF III works best so far. As far as Windows Mobile 5.0 in a PDA, consider the screen brightness and the volume along with mounting options for your FJR.

It runs well on batteries, and has built in MP3 Player... but I can also hook up to Car Charger 12v...
I would say most PDA can and will have these options, the main thing you have to ask is how does the unit route you? How much POI's is available? how easy is the user interface? You are buying a GPS nav and not an entertaiment system, so the MP3 Player and picture view etc is second to actual GPS performance and routing. What type of mapping software does it use, what quarter maps? How fresh is it? This is much more important then anything else.

Buy it if you feel is right for you, I am just giving you my own opinion!

Good Luck ;)

Hope this helps

In the mean time, I suggest that you use it in the car to get used to it. I have been doing that with mine and I am really getting to appreciate the 2730.
