I you are going to settle for SC as a state, Greenville is a fine choice of town. I grew up in Sumter, the armpit of SC.

Wheatie, can they even understand you in Greenville, South Carolina?!?!?!

How To Talk Like A Chicagoan

okay I know all of youse - my buds in other states - will vouch for me on some of these.

have your laughs now hahahahaha

  • Grachki (grach'-key) is Chicagoese for "Garage Key" as in, "Yo, Theresa, waja do wit da grachki? Howmy supposta cut da grass if don't git intada grach?'
  • Uptahdahendahdah (up-ta-da-en'-dada) as in, "Joey, you kin ride yer bike uptahdahendahdah alley but not acrost or I'll bust yu.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
  • "Jieetyet": this is used to ask "did you eat yet"?
  • Winter and Construction: Punch-line to the joke, "What are the two seasons in Chicago?"
Are you posting this so we can understand Wheat? Shouldn't it be on Mark to learn how to understand SCians?

I've only got a few regrets in life. One of them is that I didn't start writing a list of the the local expressions that cracked me up when we moved here (from Illinois-btw-but southern Illinois). Now I'm acclimated so I don't notice them or may even use them. Some 30+ years later the true native SCians still suprise me with a new one every now and then. I won't bore with obvious southern cliches' but I will try to throw out a couple recent off the wall ones that make me chuckle:

-Stink pickle-The dog left a stink pickle in the parlor!

-That'll pack a turd-This all depends one where the emphasis is. "Now THAT'LL pack a turd" means damn fine meal. "eh, that'll pack a turd" delivered with monotone indifference, means the meal may have ended the hunger pangs but didn't go down with enthusiasm.

Does Stax breakfast pack a turd?
I'll be sure to take a picture.

So...this Saturday, STAX at 9am. I'll be there...I assume Duane will be there, unless this is his version of doorbell ditch.

Anybody else gonna show? It would be nice to meet some Upstaters...

Duane, any plans for riding afterwards in the foothills?

I like Stax, and I enjoy your company, BUT, I'm not getting up in the middle of the night and riding all the way to Greenville, just to eat breakfast, at Stax, with you

I fully intend to ride me some foothills but I don't have a detailed plan.

We are passing through NC (in a car) now on the east home from Hilton Head. Just passed the Greenville exit and stopped just south of Asheville for food and gas. This is a top of list area for when I retire in a couple of years!
