Home, safe, and warm. Thanks, y'all, for your hospitality and highway guide service. Ironically, after leaving you, I had nary a car in front for 30 minutes!

Got home a few minutes ago.

Thanks to Duane/1911 who was our tour guide! Took us to Sassafras Mountain. Awesome roads and great weather.

After Sassafras Mtn, Joe and Hud headed south and west on 178. Duane took me on an awesome all day ramble that hit 278 north to 215 north to the BRP. BRP closed, so had to head back down on 215 that has awesome pavement. We were bookin' there and all the rest of the day.

Chilled for awhile on 64, crab creek rd, little river road, and other roads through flat rock...very picturesque. Headed past Saluda, then down the switchback and awesome roads to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Had a pizza to top off the day. Duane got me back to I26 and we parted ways.

I will try to post photos tomorrow. If you guys have photos, post them up!

Had fun meeting everybody!

Photos from the Day...as promised...

After a good breakfast at Stax Original, Duane, Hud, Joe and I headed north on 276...stopped first so Joe could get a photo at Furman University for a Scavenger hunt Rally he is on...then we continued north and stopped for gas, where Joe and Hud mentioned to me that one of my headlights was out. It must have just gone out because I checked on my previous ride in December.

...continued north past Caesars Head SP and took the turn off for Sassafras Mtn...

Here's Joe, Duane and Hud as we arrived in the parking lot...

It was a nice back roads ride to the top and a view equally as good..

We said our goodbyes as we knew Hud had to get back to Georgia and Joe as well, so after we parted, Duane and I headed north on 178...I had no idea of the fun to be had that day, as I did not know Duane's plans...and neither did he.

215 towards the Parkway at a pitstop...about 50 degrees out and sunny, but there were iced over falls in the rock cuts at places. Man, I love the look of that '13...

Gotta retire the old tankbag though...

Farther up 215...

I cannot express how fun the day was. Good roads, good pace, good weather.

Well, I don't have too many more photos, but I've described previously where we went. Wayne, Jim, Iris, and Art will recognize the roads we went on towards Lake Lure from Saluda.

End of the day pizza at Lake Lure (BBQ joint was closed) Pizza was good and the scenery was awesome as well as your are in spittin distance of Chimney Rock.

Sorry about the small photos. I had the phone on a small photo size by accident.

If someone else has some photos from that day (Duane? Joe, Hud?) Post them up!

Had a great time!

Sounds like a great day, can't wait to get back to that area myself, thanks for sharing. Hopefully I'll be riding the BRP again in a few months when this shoulder finishes healing.

Great report Mark...and the pics looked fine. I'll take the tank bag, whenever you want to retire it...it'll look fine on my 06.

Okay Joe, if David doesn't want it, I'll bring it to EOM for you...or make some other arrangements.
Yeah...I thought you had a new one to replace that old faded one. And I am also a fan of your new bike.

It was truly a pleasure meeting up and riding with everybody.

I would love for Hud to post his Furman Pic. Mark and I were on lookout for campus cops or irate groundscrew (bikes idling in gear and ready to ditch Joe and Hud if needed).

I have nothing pic wise to add to Mark's rr but a pic of Mark taking pics. He graciously doesn't mention u-turns and a couple seat divot inducing pucker events. It was an amazing day. The views were way above average distance wise. Even the slab down was a blast-light overall traffic + almost no heavy truck traffic + Vstream w/s=slab doesn't suck. One of the most spectacular views of the day was I-26 just down from Saluda grade. You round a turn and think you can see all the way to Charleston on a day this clear. Puffy orange clouds are just cake icing. I wish I had a pic but on a FJR, running late, with open road, the moment to take a pic passes quickly.

Keeping an eye on the Tazewell/Burkes Gardens weather forecasts-need rain to wash away the winter crap followed by a weekend warm enough for tenting somewhere like Hungry Mother. Anybody interested?

Agreed, we had a great time. I had to break off a little early but would certainly like to get together again. Here's a couple of pics of Mark, Duane, and Hud, and then of me at the Sassafras Mountain overlook.

The Furman U photo was for me -- Big Money Rally (shameless plug) -- and it's a good thing they don't score on photo quality. Thank y'all for the 7-minute pause; those 3.10 points helped a lot. That little "off-road" up the incline and back to the highway was exciting!

Next time, I'll cancel my date and be ready to ride all day long.

I just read where you were concerned about campus police or irate groundskeepers. Furman didn't worry me; this one did. Note bike on sidewalk in front of locked gates in close proximity to the holy Howard's Rock. Looks ripe for interpretation as a terrorist activity.

THIS is why I was late to breakfast.

Nice pics and a good day of riding too!

Looks / sounds like you're settling into your new digs just fine Mark. Pretty country back there, if you recall I did a tour of that area after one of the Rambles. Good times for sure!

George,

There isn't much of an adjustment. Longer riding seasons, awesome roads, warmer temperatures...its all good!

...in other words...Greenville does not "suck".
