My primary and preffered pieces are well over the four hundred dollar mark so I will exclude them but there are several good quality items on the market in that range. My hot weather light clothing piece is a S&W 442 in .38 Special. Easily slips in a pocket or holster and you forget its there, I paid 369.00 for it. The new S&W Shield in 9mm looks to be a nice weapon in the four hundy range as well as the Springfield XD and various Glocks. Try to find a range where they have rentals or perhaps friends that will let you shoot there guns and see what you like the most. The one you are most comfortable with is the best.

Just to keep the thread going, I just picked up a Springfield V10 ultra compact 45ACP. With a Smartcarry holster it makes a great carry gun and the holster is all day comfy sitting or standing. :yahoo:

I have got all kinds of guns everything from a 22 to a 5.56 assault rifle. I enjoy shooting and my favorite hand gun to shoot is the 9 mm. I have read some of the comments about the 9 ( not disagree just adding my opinion) but remember this the key to stopping an attacker with a hand gun is shot placement. Put the rounds in the right place and you will stop him. I just bought a Ruger RS9C comes with 2 magazines a 10 round and a 15 round (???) might be 16 not sure. Its a sweet shooting little gun that feels great in your hand. I paid 399.00 for it brand new. You can buy a Taraus 40 or 9 for less than 400.00 here in Tennessee. I paid 379.00 for a sig s&w 40 that is a good shooting gun. Here is one I would not recommend the 9mm Taraus PT-111 the trigger is terrible. I have a couple of revolvers that I carry but most of the time I carry my 380 in my back pocket because it is easy to conceal.

I also enjoy the 40 and 45 cal. round the recoil doesn't really bother you unless you are antisipating the recoil. If you are doing that you want be able to hit the side of a barn.

Still love my Kahr PM9... but I was, and kinda still am, jonesing for a 9mm PPS as well. Nice flat, thin, easily concealable weapon. Grats on the purchase!

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Just looking for something of decent quality to go plinking with that packs and field strips pretty easily. The wife will be shooting it, too, so, don't want something that will kick her ass with recoil.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Plinking guys, not terminal ballistics, 2nd shot follow-up or rounds in the mag.

How about a nice little .22? Shoot all day long for next to nothing! To my thinking, plinking = .22 and girls love 'em because of the low recoil.

...or maybe a S&W .500, either/or <img src="https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" :D " border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

ditto above get a Ruger or S&W 22 fun to shoot, low recoil, and you can shoot all day long for just a few bucks

Really??? a 357mag for "plinking? LOL

.22LR is a great plinking round for sure... but you can drop .38 special into a .357 and plink with that as well. More expensive than .22LR but still not crazy.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!
Yep... someone had to dig deep to resurrect this six-year-old thread!

Well, since the topic is up.... this is what I am packin' on the FJR nowadays....

With just a 3" barrel, the M&P Shield is not necessarily the weapon of choice for a running gunfight involving any distances.... but for close-up encounters, it is more than accurate. Believe me.

While I could as a legit CCW holder, I don't carry on a routine basis. Underway on the bike on these insanely long LD rides, that's a different matter. ;)

Just added a Ruger MKII competition 22 to the safe. Running out of room, maybe santa will bring me another safe. :yahoo: Still gotta find a home for a S&W airweight.

Have the Pro extended barrel S&W M&P for IDPA and it does shoot sweet.

But I actually trust my Kahr CW9 more. While single stack, it has less issues, plus it's smaller, thinner, and lighter than the compact M&P.

The XD was the best comparo photo I saw online quick.

Same for my Kel-Tec .380. I carry it all the time in my front pocket and don't even notice it. I have a .380 Colt Government which is a very high quality, high dollar gun. I never carry it because of its size and weight.
