I bought a salvaged 03 FJR. The hard bags have been repainted and look great, but they do not attach to the bike properly (the sliding pins do not go all the way up into the frame, resulting in loose unsecured bags). My local dealer tells me I need to get new cases and reuse the covers. If any one has 1 for sale, or any ideas, let me know. Thanks.

I have an 04 that was involved in a lowside and the painted portion is scuffed up and the rubber stripe. I bought a new one. the back side is just fine and in fact the bag still functions. Name a fair price plus shipping and I will send it off to you.

PS you sure the subframe is not bent?

'Kevin Daly's offer is a good way to go. And..., no need to drill and re-rivet hinges -- just bend down the tabs and pull the hinge pins.

Alternatively you may want to securely hold the moveable tabs (vise-grip?) and 'reef' on the handles to ratchet them back into place. IOW, do the reverse of what got the tabs to not go up far enough in the first place.

If that doesn't work -- you can extend the tabs with suitable pieces of plastic, drilled holes, pins, epoxy -- you get the idea.... :)

Congratulations, you just had to acquire one of the fast ones, didn't you?

Chris, just a couple of weeks too late. I gave a left side bag to Keithaba. Now, my top was scarred badly... but the actual case is in good shape. Sorry man!

Chris,

I have a right side bag from my '05. The case is in good shape but the cover is badly scratched. It has one of Alex's reflective decals on the back so you may have to peel that off.

It's just taking up space in my garage and I have way too much junk in there already.

If you want it it's yours for free. Just PM me your address.

In my opinion, there's nothing in this world Beats a 52 Vincent and a red headed girl.

Now Nortons and Indians and Greeves won't do, Ah, they don't have a soul like a Vincent 52"

I love that song and Richard, I carry the tune on my phone.

But, I wish I knew more about what you would do? I will try the vise grip idea, but I am not sure what you mean by "bend down the tabs and pull the hinge pins"

Could you explain? Thanks

Two different operations: bending down the hinge end-tabs will allow you to merely remove and refit the hinge pin without the need to drill-out and re-rivet the hinge assemblies (in-case you were to change lids?). The other (vise-grip) operation is a technique to get the moveable (locking) tab back into place so that it locks the luggage onto the bike. Inside the bag, the handle moves a mechanism that moves the locking tab -- this mechanism sometimes 'slips' -- using a vise-grip (on the tab) and 'force' (on the handle) can sometimes make it slip back in place.

Thank you. I'll give it a try when I get home this evening. Thanks for the tips.

Do you have a left or a right side hard bag? Also, I checked the sub frame and everything is fine. I took bags from a friends FJR and they worked fine.

Thanks

I did as you said and used a pair of vise grips and got it back into the track. Thank you much. It works fine now.
