Just below your point 9 is Kane, PA, just off Rt. 219. I live there if you need anything. Also just north of there and below the town of Bradford, PA is a Honda - Kaw - Yamaha shop where I bought my FJR and FZ-1. They are relatively competent.
I am also heading out on a 10 day New England tour June 28 with some friends. From PA we are going up the CT / MA / ME coast - Rt 1 - to NB to see the 40 foot tides and PEI and then back through Rangely ME and NH - VT - Adirondacks - a lot of your route! We try not to use the slab much. Our main goal is to spot moose. We got great photos last year when we got stopped in the middle of a buffalo herd in SD.

Bon voyage!
Thanks for the dealership tip. I'll make a note.

Do I need to be looking for moose(s)??? OMG - What do they look like at triple digits?

Sorry I forgot - did you plan a stop at the Flight 93 memorial near Somerset PA?
I totally forgot about it, but I will store it as a favorite so that I can visit if time permits.

Looks like a nice trip...have a great time. Pictures and writeup of course... :clapping: :clapping:
Join us!

Jeff, if you are going to be that close you should try to make time to stop by the Fast By Ferracci shop. Yeah, I know it's out of your way, but last time I was in he still had some of his race bikes on the showroom floor. And really, who would you rather haver wrenching on your bike? :fan_1:

Maybe I missed it, Jeff, do you camp or motel it?

Moose are lot larger than antilope...
I called the rangers up there for some information, and the one guy warned me about the moose, he said they weigh less than a buffalo but if you are going too fast they might look like a horny hairy two story building. I got it - tall! And he gave me some routes to take in our direction that might produce a sighting or two, like on the way to and near Moosehead Lake.

It looks like your trip is not that far north into Maine, but they have seen moose not too far north from Portland.

If they're in front of you...they have a dark hood and carry a scythe over their shoulder.

I'd love to. I did that area last year..that's why I know yer gonna have a good time. I'm going out west this year to GNP & NAFO.

I probably need a lesson in moose etiquette.

Do they get pissed if you blow your horn at them?

Do they use GMRS or CB for communications?

What tire most effectively negotiates moose feces (recommended air pressure etc.)?

My brother will want to know when they are in season?

My GF will want to know what I should marinate them in?

Can you get two to line up about 60 feet apart so that I can double over them?

According to the Yankee traffic laws, do they have the right of way or do I?

Yes, they use their horns and their horns are much bigger than yours they consider it an insult.

Neither, see 1st line above...

Farm tractor tires about 15 PSI 3MPH (yeah I know 3 MPH is strange territory for haulin' ashe)

Lunatic, see 1st line above

No need for marinate, little kosher salt at 500 degrees 10 minutes terrific steak. But, see 1st line above...

Lunatic II (two lined up 60 feet apart and the third one sneaks up behind you and kicks a rebel field goal right between them)

Duh-h-h see 1st line above

I'm bumping this thread because thanks to WheatonFJR, I have a new mission...

To plant as many Rebel flags as possible in Yankee soil. :)

Guess the GF is going to have to do without underwear so that I have more room in the bags for flags.

I need to request assistance from all my HD neighbors on the proper/best way to attach Rebel flags to a bike. Anyone know which flag material best survives triple digits???

Hey Ya'll...

Bumping this thread because it's getting about time to double-check all my hotel reservations, GPS files etc. and warm-up for this trip.

Any last-minute suggestions/tips before I lock in the course and engage???

Jeff,

I've encountered about 3 meese (it may be wrong, but it bothers me that gooses get away with it) while on the FJR. Think of them as wild cows that should play basketball. You approach and they just don't give a crap. My dad's harley did spook one though (I'm guessing noise).

If you're coming from NY through Western Mass you should take Rt. 2 from NY through North Adams and Florida (town) and then go north. Rt 116 is prob. the best road in the state of Mass, but I know you have a time budget and don't want to push it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look at the route change. You had me going there for a second when I made that left turn for Miami!

:)

Hi Jeff. I might have mentioned my small group is also heading that-a-way, however we are going as far as the Cabot Trail and PEI and back, 10 days at the end of June into July. We were calling for motel reservations last week and had a tough time connecting with the motels on my original route due to being filled. I ended up re-routing a couple of times, and then adding so many additional detours to the motels that had room that we had to add another day. I hope you have your reservations by now.

Keep this in mind.

Good rain gear, warm clothing.

We have been running consitently 10 degrees below normal up here for the last 2 months. Sucks now, but it could provide nice comfortable riding weather by the time you come.....I hope.

We will meet you at the Lake Flower Inn the evening of the 19th. Can't wait.

I will be at the "Dragon" June 6, 7, 8, with a group of GS riders. You far from there?

I'm planning a solo trip to the cabin that weekend, only an hour or so from The Dragon. Definitely would like to meet up with you if possible.

Sending you a PM with my new email address. (I'm tired of the same old porno spam.)
