However when your FJR isn’t running or sounds like it is going to go Chernobyl any minute and you appeal to the Forum for help only to have it degenerate into sheep, manatees, Irish, wallabies and screw you, NO SCREW YOU X10 responses it can be discouraging.
Ditto. That to me is far more a concern as of late than the subjective nature of vulgarity. That and the excessive drifting off topic. And I think it's an issues admins are thinking about collectively, but not yet ready to act.

In the meantime, we do deal and continue to deal with stuff that is obviously vulgar--tempered with the thick skin policy. I don't think this one is the problem though.

I'm pretty new here and at first was a little surprised at the vulgarity. Hadn't really seen it to this extent on other forums.
I KNOW, right? I happen to be a frequent reader and contributor on forums relating to baking, embroidery, and yoga, and almost never hear the term "********" there. What the heck IS it with these motorcycle fellows?

Seriously, FJRay's thoughts about how the newcomers want to make changes was right on the money. Like the folks who move in next to the airport and then file suit over the noise. I'd miss the hell out of this place if it was any different than it is, including more politically correct or less profane. There's a lot of humor, a lot of wisdom, and a great deal of support, empathy, and brotherhood (and sisterhood). Just search out threads about injuries, fatalities, lost pets, jobs, or loved ones, and so on for many, many examples.

How would I know if everyone chooses to ignore me? Oh well, it would be just like at home when my kids were here.

I hope the admins never let this place get as bland as the Gold Wing forum.

Amen, brother. Amen.

Hey all, agree with Flagstaff, sometimes threads do take off on an unrelated life all their own. But being that the battry on my sell fone is ded, I can't access the dicksonary app. What the **** does "vulgar" mean. I asked my beautiful but she just shakes her head with a look disgust and points to my shorts. I don't get it. can someone splain it to me. I do love the advice I get here.

..................well **** ****..........have to go put out/ move the BBQ pit out of the car port, my 86 Honda Interceptor just started leaking gas all over the damn floor. ****, **** ****, there went a beautiful South Texas Sunday all shot to hell.

Any thoughts?

I totally agree! The vulgarity on here is sometimes absolutely sickening! Not the language, mind you...that's no problem. It's when you innocently open a thread, scroll down and then there it is...some old ******* on here posts a picture of himself or some other just as ugly old fart usually in some compromising position, or with a farm animal, or in a thong. It's at those times, usually after swallowing some of my own vomit, that I ask myself why I continue my membership.

". . .some old ******* on here posts a picture of himself or some other just as ugly old fart usually in some compromising position, or with a farm animal, or in a thong."

I'm pretty sure BOTH Don's and Bust's folks were married. To each other.

I understand that what one might consider vulgar is subjective, but without pointing out specific posts (unless you'd like me to) it seems that the vulgarity line is crossed on a regular basis. I'm sure we are all smart enough to know what I am referring to in this case.
So, where do the board administrators stand on this issue?
For once, a post that dares us to acknowledge that others have a different

understanding of what passes for civil discourse on the Internet. I think a

conversation of this type can do wonders to advance our understanding and

knowledge of how to take a online forum and bring it back to the basics.

Offhand, I can think of many posts that I've read that made me cringe. I know that

freedom of expression is something we all clearly aspire to, but just

for once, we should endeavor towards more civil discourse.

Me? I would expect the rest of the forum to welcome Flagstaffs perspective

and try to assess the content of your post to ensure it meets with

the spirit of the forum rules. This forum has no room for those with poor

etiquette and we would do well to raise the standards of this forum, for once

!

To me this site can be compared to walking into a "Gentlemen’s club" thinking that it will be a civilized place because it has the word “Gentlemen’s” in it only to find nude women sliding up and down poles on stages, then demanding to the management that the place be cleaned up.

It ain’t gonna happen! If you do not like what you see here the obvious recourse is to exercise your right to go someplace else.

How would I know if everyone chooses to ignore me? Oh well, it would be just like at home when my kids were here.

Don't worry yer pretty lil' head dougie I'll be the first to let you know when I'm ignoring ya.

I do love it here. I am almost ashamed to say that I stay here more for the entertainment than the information. I take the good with the bad. I had to realize early on that as much as I might not like some of what is posted, someone else may hate the things that I post. Somewhere along the way, either my morals slipped, or my skin got thicker. Members that I originally took to be just aggravating idiots turned into folks I wanted to meet and go ride with. I started looking forward to reading posts from these folks that I started off hating. I don't think they changed, so it must have been me. With a group this large and this diverse, things can get way out into left field sometimes. Sometimes I wonder where the line is that we cannot cross. I do take comfort in the fact that the admins are here watching and quietly nudging us in the proper direction.

This forum has provided me with the tools I needed to perfect an already very good motorcycle. It is to the point now that Dad has forbid me to do anything else to his bike. In fact, he is not as generous with access to his keys anymore. None of this would have happened if I had not joined here. This forum remains the best resource for FJR information, bar none. If I have to see sheep **** as the price for that info, so be it.

Very nicely worded, as always, Hans. I like the analogy of a locker room. I've read a lot of things here that I have found to be childish, offensive or just plain rude. And often very, very funny. If I don't like it, I keep scrolling until I find something I do like. It appears that the moderators are quietly doing their thing because what Busta posts here is tame compared to what he posts on FB. Again, keep scrolling if you don't like it. IMHO, the good outweighs the bad by a significant margin here, so I will keep checking in.
LOL Jill this place is a nuthouse with moderate administrative intervention...

Farcebook FJR joint? You've perhaps seen American Horror story on FX this season? The admins are drunk or drugged with our meds 90% of the time. The inmates run the prison on flakebook..

Total chaos is an understatement.. I mean Simon " Bluesman" is a voice of authority there, and Stanley is revered as a gawd...

But we've managed to keep riff raff like Odie out.

As awesome as this forum is, it would get pretty dammed boring pretty dammed fast if not for the "noise" that some of the members, me included, add to stuff.

There are times when I read this forum and roll laughing. There are also times when I need to know something and know I will find it here. The knowledge here is beyond compare. Some members here seem to know more about the mechanical aspects of this bike than the guys that designed and built them.

FWIW, I'm a member of a forum that freaks out if the word "****" is used, and 80% of the jokes posted here would get a person banned. That forum is different because part of its mission is to mold young shooters, sometimes under ten years old, into better shooters...So, obviously, ******* jokes, anus shaving comments, Don nekkid on a pie, alcohol threads and the like are not acceptable. Because of that, I go there maybe once every 8 months. It bores me to tears.

However, this is a MOTORCYCLE forum, and not just any motorcycle, but one mostly owned by older men, going through some mid life ******** that can afford it. Young studs like me are few and far between, and under 18 is almost unheard of.

Any old guy that will put himself on a 160mph rocket ship and try to cross the country on a it obviously has issues, and those present as "vulgar" and off color.

So, it seems like it's time to pull up the big boy panties and make a decision. Ignore certain people if you want, but sometimes, the most vulgar guys have very good knowledge. On the other hand, I've seen sedate Ray post some vulgar, funny ****. You just never know.

What I do know is that some people come here, simply to whine, because there's not enough ******** drama in their sucky home life. They think since they cry at home and get their way, the same will happen here. Who knows, maybe the admins will change the rules and we will all have to straighten up...it'll definitely be more boring as there's only so many times the same stuff can be talked about. It will still be the place to go for FJR info though.

Oh...And some rules that were not mentioned by the OP...for what I think are obvious reasons:

[bold]3. No politically-correct fucktards.
4. No ***-clowns in general. [/bold]

5. No personal attacks. [bold]However, when some ****** desperately needs it for violating Rules 1-4, group dog-piles are perfectly acceptable.

6. Those who are easily offended should proceed with caution. Posts in this forum may or may not contain adult language/themes. No whiney-gash crying about them allowed. Deal with it.[/bold]
