Last week, I made a solo run up to some good roads just north of here.
But I didn't bring a camera
.......Just kidding.
I brought a pile of cameras and took a pile of pictures.
The route in brief -
Up 5 in the dark (4-ish) to Red Bluff.
36 east to 3.
3 north through happening Hayfork and on up to 299.
299 to Weaverville, and then up 3 a bit more.
Then back to 299 and out to the ocean.
Down 101 to Fortuna, aaaaaand THEN....all the way back to Red Bluff on 36 again.
Then finally, back down the FIVE, as the sun disappeared on my right.
Just over 700 miles, but none of it tedious. Not even 5! It was a good day.
(Some days you just feel extra good riding. This was one of them.)
Here we go, lightly captioned.
I stopped in the parking lot of that riverside bar and restaurant where just a few weeks ago,
I schooled Fairlaner in 8-ball whilst FJRONAMISSION and Bokerfork looked on in awe,
....and played pool in each other's pockets.
A RedBluffian sunrise.
That'll be all of the "while riding" photos. My normally sure hands failed me, and I sort of dropped
my little Canon at cruising speed. It bounced and tumbled, ...and stopped working.
Moving along - with a different camera.
In Weaverville.
Me and the WeenieMan. No HYCLE, I'm on the right.
...and down 101.
Then back east on 36.
I rode very quickly - for me - most of the way back east. Good music, and the sun behind me.
Trying to appreciate the "now".
I only stopped at a couple of places for photos.
Gatorade and a Snickers Dark. (Man, isn't that the BEST candybar on earth?)
The hundred-odd miles of 36 went by too quickly, and I was back in Red Bluff long before dark.
I stopped here, and sat for a bit, and thought about things.....and took another picture of my bike.
Then it was back on I-5 South for a couple of hours. And home.
This was a bit lame as ride reports go, but I found this to be one of the most enjoyable rides I've taken
in a long time. I'd ridden all of these roads many times before but, as I mentioned earlier,
there are some days that are just right.
Hey. Thanks for taking the time.
Comments most welcome.
