I looked at that but that is where the screw lined up and you may have problems getting your helmets on/off. Post pics of what you do end up with.

I usually use one of the side cases or the trunk

gun lock

Yeah, I'm a newbie, but I'm with this gentleman, it is safe, straight to the point, nothing fancy to do and just as secure as the others. It is cheaper/free and can be compromised with bolt cutters, just like the rest. I tried it today for the first time, worked perfectly running the cable through the full face piece.

More details! What is it? Can you show a pic with the helmet locked on?

Looks good and tidy.

Ok... I know I'm a newbe here... what does everyone due to lock their helmets up????
Used to the cruisers with the locks on it
Somwhere on the site is a very clever option! Just lift your Pillion seat and place one of the D-Rings over the vertical latching pin, replace the seat and Voila!! Very good, secure idea in my books!!

Here you go. Just very basic, nothing fancy.

Here's my solution, I use a Helmet Gardian re-keyed to match the ignition key. No cables, removing seats, etc...

Don't be so modest Scott, let them know you manufacture and sell these great brackets to mount the helmet locks to at a fair price with speedy shipping. I installed one on my New 08 and love it!

Thank you very much, its appreciated...

I, personally don't want to carry around any cables that's going to scratch my paint nor have my helmet rest up against the hot exhaust/have difficult access to get to but that's just me. That's why I came up with these brackets (as well as numerous BMW brackets).

In either case, if anyone's interested, their listed in the "group/self buys" under "Helmet lock brackets". The thread started in 2005 so the latest threads are the most accurate...

https://pirateslair.net/HelmetlockS.htm Same design, but a BMW lock assembly and slightly different demensions for frame fitment / lock fitment.

Those are really nice. I'm not at that level, but that is a really unique way of dealing with this issue. Just a FYI, the cable/lock that I'm using is coated there's no scratching involved. That's a really cool device, I just checked it out online.

It is very professionally made and designed. Ha ha, definitely out of my league! )

Actually, it's not just you. That pretty much describes all of us. ;)

You'll note in the picture on my home-made cable, the cable itself is vinyl coated and I shrink wrapped the ferrule that goes between the seats, so it won't scratch up the leather. (I should really do the same to the other end)

My only other helmet lock design objective (that you don't mention above) is: I don't like leaving my helmets hanging upside down where the weather (and playful miscreants) can easily ravage the helmet interior. IMO, that is the primary down-fall of all of the hard mounted locking mechanisms where the helmet ends up hanging from the D-ring.

My ideal helmet lock location would be to lock the helmets with them placed over the mirrors. I often prop them there on short stops where I won't need to lock them. They are in an upright position, so rain (or anything else :glare: ) doesn't soak the interior, and they are pretty secure such that they won't fall off unless intentionally messed around with. Just need to figure out a nifty means to lock them up on there...

That's a really good idea with the mirrors. I agree that bubblegum and everything else might end up in my helmet if it is upside down! ) LoL.

I prefer using side bags or the trunk for helmet storage, but that only works around town when I'm not hauling gear. For road trips, I use one of Townsends brackets on the right side and my own custom bracket on the left (had a Townsends bracket there but it had to go when the Ohlin remote preload adjuster got installed).

BTW, anyone buying the Helmet Guardian lock set check my rekeying tips HERE . It's really nice to be able to use the factory Yamaha key for everything! :yahoo:

OK let me first say sorry to the person who came up with this....I have long lost your name an post. The best... cheapest and real easy way to keep your lid locked....a section of AL bent into a loop covered with Velcro mounted to the base of front seat. I have parked in some bad *** places and my lid is still with me. The lock can't be seen with seats on and you can't tell what's holding the lid on the seat!!!! Your expensive lid is on the seat not hanging off the side.....Best part it cost $ next to nothing.

Does anyone have more info on the above? Wondering if the aluminum piece between the seats might cause discomfort and/or damage the seat while putting pressure on it while riding. I like the idea of the helmets on top of the seat to discourage people sitting on the bike.

It appears that we might be able to lock the helmets without taking the seats off.

I may go the way of locking the helmets on the side of the bikes. I see a bunch of Helmet Guardian knockoffs and HG's are getting harder to find. Are the knockoffs the same as HG?

Google "motorcycle helmet lock" and you'll see what I mean. Helmet Guardian did not come up in that search that I noticed.

How did you do that? Take it to a locksmith?
He probably used member Harald's method. Scroll up a few posts and you'll see his post with a link. Harald, thanks for providing that. I plan on re-keying mine with the information your provided.

Thanks you guys...I finally ordered an HG thru Premier...and will be rekeying it per the link you provided. Thanks!

I plan on taking the wife through lovely southern Indiana this summer for a weekend trip...so this will be handy for stashing the helmets when we stop for lunch or pitstops.
