Hey Terry. Well local to me is at least diving distance, 400 miles ;) , when gas was cheaper. Am sure some might disagree with me but, while I thought I might, I'm glad I didn't buy one sight unseen and have it shipped. If UR gonna at least stick with one from a dealership. At least you'll have recourse if something goes wrong. :)

Having owned both an '05 Gen1 & a '10 Gen2, I find the adjustable seat in its higher position to be more comfortable. I'm 6'1", the seat on the Gen2 offers ever-so-slightly less bent legs & this translates into less cramps at the end of the day. Aside form the seat, I haven't noticed any other notable differences although I definitely prefer the Galaxy Blue over the UFO Silver. You can't go wrong w/either model, that's for sure!

I was looking for used and found about five really good deals over a six month period. It is a balancing act between a good deal and how much of the summer are you willing to lose during your search. I didn't move on them because they were way too far away. Personally I’m not comfortable paying thousands for something without seeing it.

What brought my search to a screeching halt was when my wife said, “Why don’t you just buy a new one?” Still don’t know what I didn’t to get her to say that. Needless to say it saved me a lot of time and I now have the fastest FJR Yamaha has made in my garage; 2012 Cobalt Blue.

Good Luck in your search!!

Thanks for all your responses, this has been amazing and perfectly timed... I'm in the same situation exactly as the O.P. and my budget is $6K-7K. Leaning towards a mid-mileage 2006 hopefully with farkles, don't have a big budget for that after buying the bike and would like at least a topcase and seat. Anything else is a bonus. I have the advantage of friends all over the US, so a fly-n-drive is pretty appealing to me. Looking around the Dallas FTW area even though I'm in Michigan, not much happening up north yet and FJRs aren't common up in Harley country.

Again, thanks for the good info, you guys are unbeatable and I can't wait to join you! :)

Still looking, and still riding the Versys. If the Versys was a liter bike I would not be in such a hurry. After riding with my Harley friends and struggling to keep up sometimes, I just want a better bike.

If you're struggling to keep up with Harley Davidsons. You do need a better bike! :) FJR will that very nicely!

Well, I cannot stand it any more. I have to buy a FJR. I have been lurking and learning. I am currently riding a 09' Versys, and I like it, but...Feejer fever has set in. I am selling my Versys(hopefully) to help get the FJR. I have a budget of 6-7K, so the early years for me. I have been lusting over the silver 03' posted on here. I am just scared of buying a bike with miles and no warranty. I know about the tickers, leg cookers, etc. But with my budget what would you guys look for?

I mean should I look at a 06' with lots of miles to get into a 2nd gen bike. Stay in budget and find a good 03? 04? 05?

I need help from the pros, who know and ride this great machine. I am scared to buy because me trying to fix a cam chain tensioner scares me. The heat issue I can handle or fix. Even say a good deal, but front ABS worked, rear did not?

I am in West TN and want a FJR for comfortable riding for me and the wife sometimes. I will commute 28 miles daily on it and ride when I can. I rode all winter when roads where good. I am ATGAT rider. I just think the FJR is a better fit for me than a Connie or Z1000.

Thanks for any tips, ideas, etc.
Same thing happened to me two years ago, I owned and liked my 2008 Versys, which I heavily farkled for light touring. But, the FJR bug bit me bad and I kept my eyes open for a "like new, used one". I found a 2006 with 640 miles on it, with all recalls done. It now has 25k miles on it, and I've been smiling the whole time!!!

Be patient, you'll find one!

First off I'd say stay local. U want to ride it before U buy it. It took 1 1/2 yrs for me to find my 09 in 2011. I had just walked away from a Beemer when local dealer called. It was a left over that some body took for a test and dropped. Only had 32 miles, everything was repaired except scratched gear cover. Haven't looked back. If anything I have to admit I like the instrument cluster of the Gen1 over Gen2, but U really can't go wrong with any FJR. There made to do 200k so don't let high mileage deter U. If anything watch out for ones that have been used as dragsters, low miles but rear tires been replaced. Be patient. It will come to U
more than once a forum member has volunteered to check out a bike for a potential purchaser that was hundreds of miles away from the bike...I've even agreed to put up anyone in my home for any reason including this purpose

there's an '07 AE owned by a friend for sale at a good price if interested here in Nawlins'

I have a Gen 1 now with 150k miles on it and would have to get another but with mandatory ABS

I would want to transfer all my expensive farkles over which only fit Gen 1's, but have no worries about Gen 2's; a number of local friends have those and no issues

these guys are considered the best dealership around...price, customer service, ease of purchase for a fly & ride

they are superior in new bike sales, but sell used as well if they have one...I would check it out

best on your search and purchase
