Stopped by the local Ducati shop today just to get a can of Plexis. Really nice folks in there so I will hang out and bs with them for a while and drool on their bikes. Well, they have the sexiest monster sitting there just begging me to take it home. It's used but only 1800 mi on it, 07 S4RS (the fast one) Termignoni moto gp exhaust...........this bike is the cats a$$. The shop owner is almost begging me to take it for a spin. Well, who am I to turn her down?

All I can say is WOW! What a bike. Ultra smooth, power to spare, brakes are outstanding and it handles like nothing I've ever ridden. Oh, and it sounds like a Nascar running down the road while not being too loud.

Now, the whole time I'm riding this little beauty around, I'm trying to justify to myself why I should trade in the FJR on this bike. Long story short, I decided to keep the FJR. It's just so much more practical, comfortable and in reality is probably just as fast (in straight line anyway). I just don't know how much longer I will be able to resist that little Italian number. :dribble:

Maybe this'll help. Priced Duke parts lately?

But I understand. I would hurt somebody to have the chance to be "ordered" to take it out for a spin. But I need the boxes, the 2-up room, yada yada, no way to have 2 bikes.

FJR stays home, in my book. No deal.

I went through the same thing ... except it was the ZX14 Ninja. I HAD to HAVE it. :dribble:

I walk into the garage constantly just to look at it. :yahoo: :yahoo:

You are approaching this dilemma incorrectly.

You aren't suppose to justify trading in the FJR for this Italian Man-Candy. Oh, no.

You are suppose to be scheming a way to acquire the Ducati in addition to the FJR.

Warchild, that was the first thought that went through my mind. Then I came back to reality. The little lady just let me get the new FJR last year. The year before that was a new 06 KTM. She is already griping non stop about those two bikes. One more just might send her over the edge!

On that note, I heard a story once about a man who had ratholed enough money to buy a new bike. He did just that and told his wife he had won some sort of drawing. Voila.....New bike at home, no complaining! Pretty damn smart.

I came to the Feejer from the Ducati world and it was as reliable as any Yamaha or Honda, but the Monster and FJR are totally different creatures. Commuting life on an S4R would be a pain by comparison - teeny gas tank, mechanical clutch in traffic, no wind protection, and a lean forward posture. Every time you ride in rain, you're thinking about the hours it's going to take to clean. However, after a couple of hours on a fast two-lane in West Virginia, you drank the Cool-Aid.

Parts are slightly more, but really not that much. Plus, getting parts is easy from the line changing little year to year, salvage, Ducati clubs everywhere, mail order, & FleaBay. Warranty depends on the single dealer supply string at full retail pricing and is where the horror stories have come from. (Plus a few well-known Ducati goofs like some soft rockers, sorta like the FJR's tick and Harley cam issues.)

If you can get somebody to teach you to do the belts and valves once, owning a Duck is not expensive. They call for 6K inspections and other than the valves you can do everything in your garage in a couple of hours. Most everything on the bike is right out in the open on Monsters (Ducati fairings are another story). A lot of owners, especially 4V, take the bike to somebody for valves but after about 15-18000 miles the valve clearances don't ever change.

Here's the question: Ducati/wife/Ducati/wife/Ducati/wife. Hmmm, which one do you really need?

Simple. Trade the KTM for the duck.

What worked for me was to keep talking about it allll the time, dont let up. Then one day youll wear her down. My wife finally broke down and said, "oh for christ sake buy the f-ing thing so you'll shut up." Then i did...and i did. :D

Amen! That is exactly how I obtained my new FJR. Took me 3 months to get it done using this method.

The man KNOWS what he is talking about - get it (the Duc) and enjoy them both, you won't regret it - life is too short - don't ask me how I know.

As you can see, I had a sweet Italian girl sadly we fell down and went boom and I let her go after repairs. She just wasn't the same. :(

I love Ducs. They handle like nothing else and yes they sound like nothing else. and that twin power distribution to the road was AWESOME! I miss her terribly, but I would not trade the FJR for another Duc. I would just get another Duc on the side...so to speak. :D

It's not if I get my Italian babe back, it's just when... ;)

Mike, nice 1098!!! :dribble:

Ok, ok, you did the bad. First you walked into the dealship to buy some Plexus....riiiiiiiiight. Mistake. Next you were offered a test ride you couldn't refuse.....riiiiiiiight. Well you really should go down and test ride the MV F4 Agusta just to eleminate it from the list if its not meant to be. Forget that these bikes are an Italian piece of art and fine craftsmanship, just concentrate on the test ride and don't let this urge interfere with the FJR but if you do decide to add another to the stable do as WC said and keep both. Repeat after me, MV F4, MV F4, MV F4....now go get that bike, do a test ride like this...

and report directly back to us with pics and what decession you made! But I will admit, the S4RS is very nice as well, but the difference is Nascar vs Formula 1. PM. <>< :yahoo:  :D

Well, the real dilemma I am hearing is; is if you should make the choice of living with the FJR and the DUC or living with your FJR and your WIFE? Hmmm?

My suggestion is to talk to MIKEYORK5 and find out what method he used to get all of is "Man Candy"bikes OKed by his wife? :dribble:

Now my cheap a$$ solution would be to take the bags and box off the FJR, take the mufflers off and run some straight megaphone styled pipes and stuff some aluminum foil loosely inside. GO MAN GO! :p

Hey, This little black number is about to arrive in the stable. I guess the SO will find out when its sitting in the garage. She will probably go out and buy a new hand bag or something, thats OK as long as she uses her own money.

Similar situation for me. The Ducati dealer moved to a new location close to my Yamaha dealer. I was picking up an oil filter for the FJR and decided I'd stop in to check out the new Ducati store. BIG MISTAKE!!!

Within minutes of entering, I was contemplating selling my FJR and my SV1000 so I could get that beautiful, red 1098 that was calling my name.

I went home and took the FJR for a spin and decided I couldn't let her go. So, it's time to start saving and I will sell or trade the SV and hopefully get a 1098.

That's a sweet looking speed triple! You need to report back on that once you get some miles on her.
