EDIT APR 14 2008 - REFER TO POST #151

EDIT FEB 8, 2008 TO POST RESULTS!!!

WOW!!!! :clapping: :yahoo: Youse guyz is great !!!!

First, I'm amazed at the response to what had to be the absolutely most silliest, idiotic post I've done in a long while! (and let me tell you, I've posted some real winners!)

So, just for grins, I'm gonna give you some stats that are completely meaningless, and upon which none of us should waste any neurons - but hey, information is king !!!!

Here goes:

76 locations. A few of those were compliments of Google - which I will work to replace with actual referrals from forum members as they dribble in.

State with the most responses - California, with 9 LOCATIONS - all different cities, different stands. Second - Virginia, with 4. Now THAT makes sense, eh?

Forum Member with the most responses - Randy, with 5, followed close behind by XHD4FJR with 4. And the rest of you, well, Kudos to you. Thanks for spillin' your favorites.

And to Randy and XHD4FJR, I trust you're taking Lipitor and setting up a group buy on a coronary bypass.

Four of you offered your back yard grill as the best place to have a dog - so you're the stop in that state, with the exception of California, where's there two stops - cause I gotta eat somewhere's between north and south.

Alaska - I used Hyder as the most logical point - however, there may or may not be any hotdogs there. And I may just make this a 48 state ride, as Hyder adds in a few miles and another couple of days.

Logistics: -

It's gonna be interesting. WHEN I do this ride, (when the planets align, when I can get the time off from work, when the wife gets so sick of me she won't mind me disappearing for a month, etc., etc.,) I'll certainly tweak a few things. Hot Dog shops have hours of operation - so that has to be considered. Hotels - maintenance and TIRES for the bike - I'll also need to finalize the route - as an example, (look at the map below) I think Florida should be changed from Miami to Ft. Lauderdale, or perhaps Jacksonville - this would save a few or several hundred miles. Texas? Well, using Dallas instead of Austin would save a peck or two of miles - and so on, ad infinitum.

ROUTE:

I'm starting this in Chicago - cause that's where Airboss lives - and he was the first to respond. He needs to get a life almost as bad as I do.

So, I have to ride from my home in Orange, California to Chicago before I have the first dog - and I plan on finishing at Pink's in Hollywood. In between, well, ...... take a look:

(PLEASE remember this is not final - it's definitely gonna change)

S&T has this as 18,049.4 miles. Riding 9 am to 9 pm, 26 days, 15 minutes. If I remove Hyder - 16,171, 19 days 11 hours. So, I think Hyder is out. It looks like this:

And so, the madness begins.

ORIGINAL POST

That's right - I want to know where your favorite Hot Dog joint is -

Here in the L.A. area, we have Pink's in Hollywood -

What I'm lookin for is your favorite joint - grilled, boiled, deep fried, steamed......

All beef, kosher, turkey, chicken lips, chili, kraut, vegetarian, whatever ........

Where is it, and what's your favorite version?

I'll take your answers, and build them into a spreadsheet - and if I get one from each state??

Then maybe I'll build a route for a ride sometime. Perhaps spring/summer of 2009 or maybe 2010.

Multiples per state is fine.

The goal?

Simple.

Have a Hot Dog in every state of the Union. Cept' maybe Hawaii, cause they don't have a bridge.

And do it on one ride.

Think I'm nuts ?

So's my wife. She also thinks I'm confused. :) Go figure.

Bring em on !!!

EDIT 02/03/08: If ya'll could include more information, like addresses, etc., it would save me a lot of web surfing trying to find the info. Name, city and state would go a long way.... Thanks !!

EDIT 02/04/08: While I'm certainly able to appreciate all the possible uses associated with the term 'Hot Dog', I'd really appreciate it if you could keep posts/links/pictures related to hot dogs - I'd like to be able to share this post with my 14 year old daughter and my 83 year old mother.

I used Google on a few states - and I added Hyder for Alaska - but it may not be part of the trip, as it add about 3K miles.

Vacaville's got a neat little place called "McKenna's Doghouse", on Elmira rd. All kinda 'dogs, also have philly cheese steaks, and funnel cakes. I also like Winnerschintzel (sp?)

Weiner Works in Sacramento and stupid as it sounds I'll second Costco and add Sams Club. Hard to beat $1.50 for a big dog and a drink.

Yonah Burger in Cleveland, GA 30528.

Get 'em with chili and slaw. Little roadside restaurant sits in the shadow of Mt Yonah. After your done eatin', ride on up through the fabulous twisties of the North GA mountains. Could not be better.

Oh yeah, if you find yourself in Atlanta, never forget The Varsity.

of course my favorite is the new all beef dogs in my D.Q.

when they are for me, i deep fry em.

so add a country to your ride and i'll buy you a dog and show you some of the sweetest twisties on the planet.

derek

trail, b.c.

Derek, what's the address?

Do you know what they put in those things? :bad:
So - Washington doesn't get visited?

Rutt's Hut, Clifton, New Jersey. This is my home town, but have lived in S.C. for over thirty years now. When I go home for a visit, going to 'Rutt's' is always high on my list to do. Deep fried, and available in various amounts of 'doneness', you just ask for your pleasure; great fries and onion rings too, and don't forget the birch beer.

I like Hot Dogs on a conveyor.

The conveyor moves at the same speed as the hot dog as it is eaten.

The best hot dog in Maine is a lobster roll like the ones that you can get at Waterman's Beach in South Thomaston, ME.

I'm not saying I don't like them, I didn't as big as I am by being picky.

Nothing wrong with a polish dog from costco with kraut and the works. Keeps things gurguling for hours.
