Dont know how i forgot but you'll have to add Tony Packos in Toledo, Ohio. If for no other reason than it was Corporal Klingers home town favorite. It's also the only place I know with a collection of autographed buns!

Hal, your one crazy mofo. If you need a place to crash in the Phoenix area, you know you've got a place here.
Arte, When I met Hal on that rainy Sunday last month (which you wussed on!), I did think he made SkooterG seem normal!

yeah, well, it's kinda understandable and all, I mean,, waiting for Art in bed was a pair of soft, warm.... ah..... well.......

oh crap.

never mind.

Same goes here Hal, if you need a place to stop for the night or just kick back for awhile on this trip, mi casa is open here in Antioch, Ca.. We could even go down to my local gym and work off some of these hot dogs you'll be packin away while on your journey. But really if your eating turkey dogs, there's no "real" taste there now is there? No gain no pain, as they say, or was it the other way around? :dntknw: Take care, PM. <><

If you need a place in Chicago, let me know. I live in Chicago and know where all 3 I've seen posted here are, and the quickest, safest way there(it helps to be a medic once in awhile). As long as you're not afraid of big dogs, our "little" one is 75lbs, the house is open. I'll even take a day off(I work 24 on 72 off) and show you what you wanna see.

I know it's a ways off, but the offer's as good 2 yrs from now as it is today, unless I'm dead. I don't think the wife will honor it unless I'm alive, must be one of those female things :D

From an international chef's perspective;

Max's on Adams in Chicago

Also the brats at Lambeau field, although they were better in the late '60's when I got to go to the occaisional pre-season game with my dad...

There's a reason why they have 3 guys working behind the counter in a place that is 6 feet wide. Check it out around lunch time, any day...

Hope I'm not too late to throw another dog on the fire, but since you're running past Sioux City, Iowa anyway, stop at Coney Island. Here's a review;

Coney Island

This will be an interesting trip to follow. And since yer runnin through Des Moines, PM before you leave. You can stop by for a potty break. I'll buy extra TP and an industrial plunger.

Craig

Nobody's mentioned the best one yet. Guess you've never been there, is all I can think. Good old Heid's, just outside Syracuse. https://www.heidsofliverpool.com/index2.htm

Don't know why, exactly. They make their own rolls, just white bread, but there's something about them. Coneys are big there too, but I like the dogs. And for some reason, chocolate milk. Guess it's just the combination.

Wow, I guess this thread is still being read !!

I've updated the list - and there are now 83 different locations - which will give me a selection of waypoints to choose from in each of the states with multiples. This will give me an option in those states.

There are several that I located on Google, as no one "claimed" a location in their state:

Google AR Lori Ann's Hot Dogs 775 Highway 62 E., Mountain Home, AR 72653

Google ID Kit's Riverside Restaurant 101 Riverside Drive Horseshoe Bend, ID (208) 793-2651

Google IN The Coney Factory 3434 North Anthony Boulevard, Fort Wayne, IN 46805

Google LA Griff's Hamburgers 2910 Linwood Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103

Google MS Nyla`s Burger Basket 1071 2nd Street, Osyka, Mississippi 39657

Google MT Joe's Pasty Shop 161 Grand Avenue, butte, MT 59701

Google ND Fargo Dog House 119 Broadway, Fargo, ND 58102 701-235-7662

Google NE Culver's of Scottsbluff 2915 Ave. B Scottsbluff, NE 69361 308-220-0045

Google NM Bob's Burgers 5230 4th St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107 505-345-8727

Google OK Fort Swadley Grill 7100 NW 39th Expy., Bethany, OK 73008 (405) 603-8100

Google RI Firehouse Hot Dogs 39 Putnam Pike, Johnston, RI 02919 (401) 231-9749

Google SD Culver's of Mitchell 1015 Cabela Drive Mitchell, SD 57301 605-995-5868

Google UT Hot Dog King 1708 South State Street, Orem, UT 84097 (801) 225-1766

Google VT Chelsea Royal Diner 487 Marlboro Rd., West Brattleboro, VT 05301 802-254-8399

Google WI Ardy and Ed's Drive In 2413 S. Main St., Oshkosh, WI 54902 (920) 231-5455

Google WY The Hot Dog Shop 111 North First Street, Saratoga, WY 82331 307-326-3647

So - if anyone would like to recommend their favorite hot dog stand in one of the listed states above, I'll replace the googled find with theirs - or, if you'd care to confirm that one of them is decent, your name will go on it.

But only if you've been there.

Like I'd know.

Another variable waypoint for WV, Dairy Queen on Rt 20 in Hinton, WV - "best dogs in southern WV" according to a friend of mine who is a former WV State Policeman and worked all over southern WV. I gotta admit, they were pretty good, especially b/c he way buying!

I'll grill you up some deer steak on your way through if you're looking for a change of pace and your WV dogs are still on me.

Best of luck with the ride.

Good luck on this Hal! I'll try to get that video out to you with the "Nations Best" on it sometime soon.

If you need anything while in AZ, you know you've got peeps to call on!

Hal if you are through the OKC area while in Tulsa stop by and I'll treat you to lunch.

I'm just west of OKC, south of I-40 about 5 miles.

A "dog" I like... grilled mild Johnsonville Italian sausage (with sweet basil)... served on a soft hoagie roll with saute'd bell pepper and onion, topped with melted Provolone and whatever condiments plus a cold *** Blue Moon Pale Ale... hell yeah. You guys get anywhere near Birmingham or North Alabama, you'll have a place to crash plus the aforementioned culinary offering.

Ever had a Sonoran Hot Dog? It's a dog wrapped in bacon, then grilled. Quite a few places in Tucson serve them, but I go to El Guero Canelo since it's near my house. The local Tucson paper has a video of how they make them. The Carne Asada is pretty good there too.
