Thanks for the post Patrick - we'll be pretty close to there on Sat evening, maybe I can talk Lorie into some chow!

hey Jim;

without doubt -- thats an interesting part of town. Ben's is definitely not a high brow eatery, but the dogs are good and those chili half smokes are great. Let me know if you convince Lori.

Two other places worth mentioning while we're on it. This time back in VA. First, is a place I haven't tried but have on good authority hits the spot. That's Jess' Quick Lunch in Harrisonburg. Pretty darn close to JMU... one write up here:

https://weathervane.emu.edu/index/51/5/burg/jesslunch

And of course, how could anyone from these parts forget the Vienna Inn in downtown Vienna:

https://www.viennainn.com/

I've had many, many chili dogs from the VI.

Great place!

regards!

Thanks Patrick - Jess's looks like a dump -- my kinda place!! Don't get to Vienna ofter, but if we do we'll try out the Inn.

Thanks again.

Might be out your way tomorrow. Brian, the 1150RT guy that I met and let ride Matilida (formerly known as Maxine until Lorie renamed her) did decide on the FJR and is signing the papers for an 08 at Blalocks tomorrow. I sent him a msg asking what time so we could perhaps ride out together - if not, I'll probably ride out on my own early AM. Maybe we could at least meet at the Starbuck's across the street.

SF,

Jim

One word-Nueskes. Home also to the best bacon on earth, they produce the best dogs to be found. What one does to them after purchase is up to them-any good cook knows the best chow depends on quality ingredients, and the best dogs come from 'Sconny. Their smoked pork chops are to die for, and did I mention their bacon? Smoked candy I tells ya.........

They make the best dog joint in Minnesota-my house. Chili dogs being one of my favs, with Chicago style a close second, no one leaves the Radsturant without a big dose 'o bromo.......... :p

Wowser, does that food and the menu on that link looks good! I am here in Phoenix having desayuno; enjoying my home made chorizo, queso, frijoles y jalapeno burrito that I just cooked up; but the pictures of those delicious links makes me want to fire up the FJR and head to Minnesota. Wait, don't you guys have that white stuff on the ground? Scares us Zonies!

sounds good Jim... give me a holler. I won't be able to ride tomorrow, but I can set aside a little time to grab a cuppa joe and some conversation. this last month we had to build out an extra bedroom downstairs for one of our daughters who unexpectedly got the boot from her place. the room is 99% done, but I have this Saturday to clean up all the stuff laying around and help her get her stuff unpacked so that same downstairs area can stage my son's things before he heads off to boot camp. let me know if you don't have my cell and I'll PM it to you. thanks!!

Rad, you need to eat more of that bacon yourself. From the looks of your avatar you're fading away to skin and bones.........

Patrick - I have it if it's the same one you had on 25 Jun. I'm a fairly early riser/rider and would expect to be out your way by ~0830. But, I'll let you know either way.

Hopefully Brian will pick up on this and give me a shout too.

Being from the S.Side of Chicago I have to suggest JR's hot dogs. Portillo's is okay compared to these guys. There used to be a bunch when I was a kid but now there's only 2 or 3. One is right off I-294, on 95th st ,1 block east of Ridgeland on the s.side of the street, and another on 119th and Harlem.

This is one of 2 places my wife gets absolutely pissed at me for if I don't take her when I go, and she's a Portillos fan from the N.side. The fries are really good too. My usual is 2 dog's w/ everything(comes w/ fries) and a tamale boat w/ onions. I usually nap afterward, but it's worth it. :yahoo:

Great, she just saw what I was typing about. Guess where we gotta go tomorrow? Thanks.

Oh, it's a 45-60 minute ride from where I'm at now, but when it's that good, you have no choice.

Superdawgs on Devon and Milwaukee is pretty good too. It comes in a box resting nicely on it's "cozy fries", the presentation is pretty entertaining.

ROUTE: I'm starting this in Chicago - cause that's where Airboss lives - and he was the first to respond. He needs to get a life almost as bad as I do.
I don't live in Chicago, thats where the dogs are. I'm close enough to get there and make sure you get your lunch.

Hey I have a life, it's just on HOLD right now. :(

Anybody got a slow fire, I see some dogs that need sweating.

OK there is no way i'm going on any ride called "TubeSteak" :D

How about the Hot Dog Ride for Weenies....um nope ....that don't sound right................the Weenie ride for Hot Dogs................nope that won't work. Anyone else for name that ride. :D

"Nationwide Tubesteak Boogie" ? :p
Wow, somebody's still reading this post .....

I suppose we need to name this thing, eh? I tell ya what - as it gets closer and everything starts to fall into place, I'll post up for a naming contest, or something like that.

Right now I'm getting ready for a ride to Mexican Hat, Utah to check out a possible RTE meet.....

I see you've got KS covered, but if your going through Manhattan, KS stop at Vista's Drive Inn on Tuttle Creek Blvd. (Highway 24) for a corn dog or 10 :) . If you're here on Corn Dog Tuesday (every week) it's 2 for 1!

Y'know, Hal, if you didn't start in Chicago...or if you changed the route...you have a great 4-corners ride planned and you could still hit all the "Hot Dog" stands. Just a thought...for free...take it for what its worth...

"4 Corners...a square ride for a tube steak."

Circle the country for an unparalleled adventure, through many intersections, and that's the "plane" truth.

Tubular, man! :yahoo:

That's the place! Good burgers too. There was a second store in Topeka on Wanamaker, but I'm not sure it's still there. The original, here in Manhappiness, opened in 1964.

Yep, I know. Starting here, I'd also shave off almost 1800 miles from the ride.

As it gets closer, I'll start taking a hard look at things - and maybe we can make it even crazier.
